The Beast has apparently tapped into a power source where magic actually originates, which has enabled him to kill or trick gods. I wouldn't put too much stock into it when they use the term "gods" for these beings. They are simply powerful magical beings that have been around longer than humanity.

Given how much I liked season one, I probably will hold off on reading the books until this series is over. I really do like Quentin and Alice as the primary protagonists, they aren't the chosen, invincible heroes that fantasy material tends to turn their main characters into. It was quite amusing when Quentin was tested to be a king of Fillory and failed.

Really enjoyed season 1 even if Syfy butchered the timing of BOTH of my recordings. I am hoping that they do an uncensored BR release as that would be an incentive to get them. I thought they wrapped things up nicely while adding a cliffhanger to bridge to season 2. This is one of the darker ends to a season I have seen though (difficult to watch).

I won't go into details as I am still reading Book 1, but there have been so many changes, jumps, etc that they may not be planning on a long run for this show. Of course these days you never know how long you will last, so the jumps/changes they did make (I am OK with thus far) have in some cases been for the better.

Just watched the finale, and all I can say is....another cliffhanger?! After TWD, this is getting old. It would be understandable if the show was coming back soon, but it's not going to be on again until 2017 from what I've read. Also, I saw a commercial for the blu-ray release coming soon. I don't like the tactic of censoring the show, and then immediately releasing it on disc (which I'm sure will be unedited). Greedy, IMO.

Otherwise, I liked the season.

They may have filmed 2 endings (not sure when it ended filming) since it wasn't renewed (at least I don't think so) until late in the season. I don't mind cliffhangers as long as they lead to a new season. With some edits this could have been a series ending as well.

Sorry I joined late, but really like this show. Started quirky but getting better. Hope it runs for 5 years, but more books might have to be written.

Pretty sure Grossman isn't going to write any more sequels, he kinda wraps things up with a bow at the end of book 3. Not that there aren't still stories to tell, but no need for additional books.

Plenty of material from the books to have several seasons of the show. Plenty of alternative stories that can be told if they choose to make them up for the show, too. This show definitely doesn't parallel the books closely at all.

I read the 1st book years ago. I didn't really care for it. It was just to Harry Potterish for me. However this is has been the surprise of season for me. I have only one question.....the end was cut off and I missed how it ended? What happened?

Not that I suppose too many people care about this, but at least on DirecTV, a search for "The Magicians" shows all thirteen episodes from season one on demand available for downloading, complete and uncut. and uncensored. The only commercials are very brief self-promotion for the season two episodes coming soon.

After that ending, one wonders where exactly they are going.

It's a good thing they have source material to pull from I bought the season 1 BRs recently, but haven't had a chance to check them out.

Not a very good start to the second season.

It was OK. The the beast was underwhelming. Also not a fan of easily and quickly resolved (and forgotten) cliffhangers.

Well, it is a show about magic, so you can't exactly fault them for using magic to quickly get out of a sticky situation.

Besides, I'm glad they don't The Walking Dead it and take 6 episodes to resolve the cliffhanger.

After watching season 2 episode 1, we had a family member tap out. While the show seems to have lost some of the magic for us, we will give it a couple of more episodes before making the "watch, don't watch" decision.

Well it seems that they are mixing the stories of the books, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly where the story is going. I will say if what I think is right, it might be worth sticking around for a little bit. While I wouldn't expect radical changes, I hope this series doesn't drag out certain things.

Well, if the they can just use their magic to fix things, what's the point of having cliffhangers in the first place?

And what the WD does is virtually ignore them, essentially rendering them impotent. That's a weak argument to defend The Magicians.

Just because they can, doesn't mean they always will. Much like the Jedi's ability to use the force to move objects or influence "weak minded people". It's a plot device used to move the story forward at the choice of the creators.

I understand it's a plot device. Here it was poorly used, and, IMO, implies laziness.

It mostly fits the source, although the show seems to be mixing stories from multiple places. It may also be adding some new things in. Thus far the only things I've had issues with are the music montages and extending of The Beast. Hopefully the latter will be taken care of soon.

Well, I liked this week's episode better. At least the hands issue actually took effort to resolve. I rather like the beast. I never read the book so I have no idea how far that character goes, though in the TV show it would be weird if he was gone soon, being as most of season one revolved around him.
