Bernie may be a bit short on the benevolent side of the "benevolent dictator" equation, but there needs to be a single entity that can make the final decisions about the sport, and the teams and their enablers the manufacturers are NOT suited to the task. They can voice their opinions, but at the end of the day, they should not be voting on the rules that govern the sport.
That seems a lot like Nascar.

Often, when I know a subject, media seems to get the story wrong. It's clear they just get a story out quickly without actually understanding. The more that happens, the more I wonder how I can trust news articles about subjects I don't know much about.

Here is another great example of crap journalism: The "click bate" headline.

"Fernando Alonso: I could have swapped with Lewis Hamilton for 2015"

http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/...-hamilton-2015

No, Fred could NOT go to Merc in 2015. His people probably put out a feeler, end of the story. In fact, the headline, which would appear to be a quote, does not even appear in the article.

Not seeing what the commotion is about, Mercedes' hasn't even matched their best time from last year which was a 1:22.8 on softs. Of course we don't know how hard Nico was pushing, how much fuel he had, or even if the tire is comparable to last year.

Oh and Kimi just set a 1:23.836 on Mediums. Which is essentially the same as a 1:23 on softs.

Rosberg still on top on Softs. Bottas at P2 set his lap on Ultra-Softs, which are 2 grades softer than the Softs, with a Super-Soft between them.

Has Merc done any laps on anything softer than "Softs"? I predict at some point this week, they are going to turn the wick up, bolt on some Ultras, and pretty much demoralize the rest of the field.

They've said they will do no running on SSofts or USofts. From what I've read the differences in tire times between USoft, SSoft, and Soft at Barca is .6 seconds each. And .8 from Medium to Soft. No idea on the Hards. So Kimi and Nico set almost exactly the same best laps today after adjustments.

Edit: oh ugh correction Kimi did a 1:24.8.

Well, either GPToday is lying about Bottas's tires, or the official F1 Twitter feed is lying:

Formula 1 ‏@F1 50m50 minutes ago

@ValT teriBottas only driver to use @Pirellis port's ultrasofts so far today. Finn still couldn't beat @nico _rosberg's time set on softs #F1

Well given GPToday typo'd Kimi's time by a second I would go with the official feed.

And which "Soft"? Soft, Super Soft, Ultra Soft……all the fastest times for Ferrari and FI were Ultras, I think.

You can't really compare times from last week to this, with different conditions. Today Rosberg on Soft was 1.7s faster than Alonso on the same compound, and 0.2s faster than Bottas on Ultra Soft. Clearly Ferrari could have got closer if they wanted to. And Hamilton was 2s down on Rosberg so clearly you can't tell how hard anyone is pushing.

Despite that, it could still be status quo at the front .

I believe that Hamilton was on Mediums doing more race distance runs, but agree, at this point no one knows nuthin'.

But, I will not be surprised if Merc shows up in Melbourne and totally runs the table.

I agree about the silliness in Nascar, but F1 has the stupid DRS.

New quali to be used in Melbourne, but different than previously announced.

So much for the delay and the chance to kill it. Expect a barrage of online articles to follow.

The original article is in German, but Buxton and Swales are running with it.

KMag has been doing great in these tests (no surprise here).
To think he almost left the sport because there wasn't a seat for him...
