I'd probably go Orville and Valerian. Yeah, I liked Valerian. It's not a large club.

I also developed a new appreciation for ST Voyager and even ST Enterprise which I had previously de-rated.

Of course we also watched: Gravity Falls and Trollhunters, so looking forward to 3Below

Television: 'The Expanse', hands down. So far in front it lapped the field.
Movies: Can't really think of one. Which is sad.

I think "The Shannara Chronicles" is available on one of the free w/ads streaming sites I frequent. Is it reasonably adult-friendly? Still workin my way through the first 3 Mythica movies.

Love animation! Thanks for those suggestions.

When you said Trollhunters, my first thought was this.

Not really. I played "2001" once in my HT just to show it off.

The last sci-fi movies I really liked were The Martian, Gravity, Interstellar, and The Arrival. But I can't think of one this past year...

Andromeda seasons 1 & 2 are fantastic. Too bad it's all downhill after that when Bob Engels takes over the show and Gordon Hewitt Wolfe departed. I read some of what Gordon's plans were for the remaining seasons of the show and they were epic. Made me hate the existing seasons even more. For those that don't know, Gordon left the show due to creative differences since it was requested to be more episodic since it was purely syndicated they were afraid casual viewers wouldn't be able to follow along. Gordon didn't agree. So they brought in Bob Engels to ruin the show.

Haven't seen Valerian, or frankly any of the new releases in 2018 yet. But I'll keep it on my watch list.

You've got my dream TV right now, replayrob! Maybe in a few years I can afford some new toys like that.

Thanks for the warning, markmon1. I've enjoyed the series so far.

I haven't seen "The Expanse", or other new series like "Game of Thrones". But these were some of the older TV series I saw in 2018 that I liked...

1. "Camelot" with Eva Green - streamed free w/ads on Tubi TV
2. "Andromeda" - streamed free w/ads on The Roku Channel
3. "Babylon 5" - streamed free on Comet TV
4. "The Dresden Files" - streamed free w/ads on The Roku Channel

"Camelot" contains mature content btw.

Also watched a little of the original "Lost in Space" on TRC, and it looks really good! So I'll definitely get back to that another time.

And, also a bit of "Merlin" (2008-2012) with Colin Morgan, Bradley James, and Anthony Head (as Uther) on Tubi TV. This series is geared toward a younger audience than "Camelot", but it seemed to show some good potential. I thought the gal playing Morgana was Keira Knightley at first. But I see it's another actress named Katie McGrath, who could be Keira's twin.

Still workin on the favorite SF/fantasy movies for 2018.

GoT is an HBO series, so that requires a sub. Totally worth it, as it might be the most spectacular (and expensive) TV series ever made. They've already gone through 7 seasons, with the 8th and final season of 6 episodes premiering this spring.

But 'The Expanse' was on Syfy Channel which is on most folks' basic cable systems. So you've got no excuse there. Note that Syfy cancelled the show (they didn't own it, so it didn't meet their profit requirements) at the end of last year's third season, but it's Jeff Bezo's favorite show so Amazon picked it up and S-4 will debut in April on Prime Video. Either Netflix or Amazon or both has S:1-3 if you want to catch up. Highly recommended by most folks here.

Not all from 2018 but a few I found note worthy.

11.22.63
A high school teacher travels back in time to prevent John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Altered Carbon
Set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored, a prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom.

Dark Matter
In the dystopian 27th century, six people wake up on a deserted spaceship with no memory of who they are or what they're doing there. They reluctantly team up and set off to find answers with the help of a female android

Killjoys
In the Quad, a planetary system on the brink of a bloody interplanetary class war, a fun loving trio of bounty hunters attempt to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants.

The Magicians
After being recruited to a secretive academy, a group of students discover that the magic they read about as children is very real-and more dangerous than they ever imagined.

Stan Lee's Lucky Man
From the mind of comic book legend Stan Lee comes a bold new action crime series about a brilliant but flawed police officer with the power to control luck.

Hope you enjoy some of what I listed, I did.

I heard this was very good, but also that it was cancelled in an unplanned manner with no opportunity to end it correctly. Did it end with a cliffhanger? It really irritates me when there is a cliffhanger that is never resolved.

I really enjoyed Dark Matter. And yes, Syfy canceled it prematurely and left a lot of unresolved questions/situations.

Didn't even notice. But yes, I think it'd be safe to say I'm a bit of an Eva Green fan. And that probably factored into my assessment of the show. "Camelot" was a very well produced series as well. So it's too bad it only lasted one season.

"Andromeda" is a little Flash Gordon-ish. Might be worth a look for fans of old serials like that, esp. since it's free. The video quality on this series is pretty good on The Roku Channel.

I started watching some of Gene Roddenberry's "Earth: Final Conflict" as well, but haven't gotten as far with that...

Started rewatching Battlestar Galactica on Amazon Prime. Originally shown on SyFy. I forgot how good this was (before the confusing and controversial last episodes). All seasons are free. For those unfamiliar with this show note that the story starts with the 3 hour Miniseries which you could watch as a standalone movie. Then start with season 1. There are 4 seasons and some seasons are like 23 episodes. It is in HD but this was the start of the HD era (2003) so video is grainy (also the directors choice). There is a story arc thru all seasons so you need to start with S1.

Totally worth re-watching! Galactica is one that doesn't get old! The most successful re-boot of an action sci-fi series ever, and the best project that SyFy has ever greenlit, rarely matched until The Expanse arrived on our screens. From the characterizations to the jaw-dropping feature-quality EFX produced for the show by Zoic Studios, to the amazing music by Richard Gibbs and Bear McCreary (the latter regarded as one of the best in his field these days), the show took sci-fi television to new levels. And, some astounding and unforgettable scenes like this one:
