The Girlfriend Experience on Starz

Anyone check this out yet? Not a ton of nudity, but damn that Riley Keough is sexy.

By day, she works for a law firm that screws people.

By night, she screws older men for money.

That's a lot of whoring for one person.

We haven't had a "fun with prostitutes" show since Billie Piper's 'Secret Diaries of a Call Girl', so we thought we'd give this one a shot. They've taken an interesting approach. They've going for a "realism" vibe, so there's no background music to help with creating an emotional reaction for the viewer. But on the plus side, they've elected not to use the uber-annoying shaky-cam either. I like the fact that they're only 30 minutes long, but if they're going to show two eps back-to-back every week, what's the point?

First two episodes were a little slow as they introduce the characters and set up the premise. Expect it to pick up steam as the obstacles and conflicts start to pile up for our comely heroine.

Expect a PG-edited version to be a future staple on Lifetime Movie Channel (aka "Chick Channel").

Didn't care much for the feature film version that this is supposedly based on so passed so far on this. Riley Keough is Elvis Presley's grand daughter.

I watched the season on Starz streaming - you can watch the whole season(series) if you want now. It was oddly captivating. The mood was really intense even when not much is happening. Lots of sensual scenes, and an interesting overall story arc really kept my interest and had me looking forward to the next episode each time. The show felt unique, even if the topics and subject matter wasn't. The ending was interesting, though not particularly satisfying for a series-ender. In fact it seemed like an episode that could have been in the middle of the season.

Interesting show IMO ...

This is a bit of a threadjack, but I can't figure out where to otherwise ask this question and since you streamed it, perhaps you can help.

I find the image quality of Starz Play to be very flat and overall blah loooking. Colors lack punch, contrast is lacking, there's a lot of banding in backgrounds which I noticed in the first episode of The GFE here.

I have checked it with my nVidia SHIELD Android TV and Xbox One into a calibrated Vizio M60 (and my previous M552); a Roku 3 into a 60" Sharp Aquos 632 (can't recall exact model); and via Samsung Smart Hub on a new 55" J620D. Universally it looks blah while all other inputs (OTA, DirecTV) and streaming services look fine and bright. Only Starz Play looks weak.

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks.

Yes. My experience was about the same. Not a ton of banding, but the rest is accurate for me.

I'm only 3 episodes in, and I'm not sure I like this show. But I keep watching.

I like that it's 30 minutes, though. And commercial free. :
