they can each see the recordings of the others, watch them, delete them, ect
the hr54 has 100 timers, just liket he hs17
each hr24 has 50 timers

you have to schedule recordings at each box

its really a great setup for familys that have different viewing habits

What about total hours of recordings? The HS17 has a really high capacity.

I wonder if they would make the swap? Probably, but would charge me at least $19.95.

especially if you're willing spend your money for EHD … it does support 12 TB for sure [in an enclosure with HW RAID-0]

This brings up a question. Is there a way now to transfer my recordings from my HS17 to a HR54 if DTV was willing to make the swap. I know you couldn't do it in the past.

you could copy (it's special process) from one HDD to another, but only for SAME DVR (all [but OTA] records encrypted by smartcard's key)

So I think you are saying I cannot copy from HS17 to HR54. Right?

"Today the telecom company, nicknamed the Death Star by detractors, isn’t scaring so many. Acquiring satellite-TV provider DirecTV, which cost $49 billion, was supposed to catalyze AT&T’s transformation into a media and entertainment giant. Instead, it has become one of the biggest casualties of the rise of Netflix Inc. and other streaming-video services.
DirecTV has lost 1.4 million satellite customers since its peak of 21 million-plus about two years ago. Analysts expect news of roughly 300,000 more defections when AT&T reports quarterly results on Wednesday. AT&T is bracing for cancellations this year that would cut into its 2019 operating profits by $1 billion.
The company has told investors it plans to make up for much of the money lost to defections by charging more to customers with discounts who stay. Meanwhile, some former call-center workers say AT&T has incentivized such employees to make it as difficult as possible for customers to cancel, a claim the company disputes. "
end

to add my own thoughts: giving big discounts to keep customers is not going to work in the long run: it's like selling a widget below cost, and explaining you will make up the loss by increasing production to sell more....sounds good but it does not always work.
I can't tell you about most people's experiences, but I can tell you mine. I canceled my 5 year long service with DirecTV in November 2018. The moment I called to cancel service, there was very little resistance. I was instantly offered a $60/month discount for 12 months. No fighting, no haggling, just instant offer. I was full price with no contract at that point, and since I was moving to an address with Verizon Fios, I had no intention to stay with DirecTV under any circumstance. At that point, I only had 1 DVR (an HR34) with Choice and HBO, and was paying over $140/month with the protection plan.

I didn't have to fight that hard to cancel, although I made it very clear from the get-go what my intentions were. They fought a little harder to keep me than Comcast did, whom at that same time, I canceled as my internet provider.

a) there is NO methods to copy from one DVR's HDD to other DVR - no way !
b) it's red herring; while you referring to TOS, in real life wasn't such case discovered by many

I only have one 4K tv. My equipment with DIRECTV is HS17 AND C61K. When I woke this morning to rather loud thunder. I tried to turn on my tv, c61k, Denon reciever. No signal displayed on the screen HDMI 1 on my Denon receiver AVR-X4400H and further testing with other devices it appeared HDMI 1 is dead. No video output from the C61K when connected direct to tv, Calling Directv to attempt to set up service call or drop shipping another receiver was a nightmare. I was on the phone over an hour with the scripted diagnosis. Finally reached a technician that felt it unnecessary to trouble shoot further. The next service call was not until Monday 2/4 so I elected for them to ship me the receiver instead with next day air. Will probably end up receiving it on Monday 2/4 since I called on Thursday 1/31. My Sony 4K television is RVU anyway so I thought of doing a self install before the C61K arrives, if that is even a possibility. The other items acting up after the lighting strike was my Netgear Router R8000 now has two non functional Ethernet jacks. I can view my DirecTV programming on my iPad so at least the server is working.

Your only option if you absolutely MUST keep recordings is to use a computer and a capture box. The problem is that the copying has to be done in real time. When we ditched Bright House, I had about six hours of stuff that wasn't otherwise obtainable. Mostly local news programs. I've always used capture boxes with my DirecTV tuners rather than their DVRs just for that reason. It's klutzy, sometimes, but there's no storage limit and I can watch anything anywhere.

Anybody else receive the email stating you are no longer with Directv but are part of the new AT&T family ? I got it this morning and I now have a new account number. This is not good, sure looks like a ski slope to Bad Business.
Well it was a good company for many years, but we all knew this was coming when AT&T took over.

TV's turning on the middle of the night

Pretty strange occurrence last night. I awoke in the middle of the night to find both my tv's turned on as if gremlins were about. The tv's are connected with C61k's to an AVR and then to tv. Two different brand tv's so I've ruled out the possibility of tv software update causing random turn on. The AVR's are both Denon, but different model years, one an X6200 and the other an X1300. Considering the differences in how Denon does their updates, I can feel safe to say those would not have an identical update causing random power on. This leaves me to the most common piece of hardware, the C61k. I never turn them off to avoid the 4k resolution box getting unchecked. I'm guessing it must have been a software update to the C61k's, which when they do turn back on the AVR would sense the signal and power up everything with CEC.

I've been with Directv for almost two years and have never had this happen. Pretty strange.
Am I alone in experiencing this random power on?

They switched me over to the ATT system a year or so ago. Unfortunately, their systems (old DTV and new ATT) were not migrated properly; and if dealing with customer services (with new system), sometimes they must go off line and go to a "back room" to get info from the old system. This made it a real pain for me to "upgrade" my hardware for the 2 yr "freebie" provided by having their protection plan(current system did not document when I started the protection plan). Just another example of poor ATT systems.

Why guessing ? Does HR54 or HS17 reside in premises of your neighbor ? So, you have no access to server to check FW version and date/time of last update.

Agreed.....22 years with DIRECTV....

I have dealt with the AT&T people several times over the last few months (total chaos when they migrated me to their database/acct). They seem to be trying hard..

My complaint is most of the tech support people are not very easy to understand because of language difficulties, etc.....

Agreed. After I get two "this ones", or they repeat instructions making it obvious they are going from a script, I bull my way up the chain until I get someone who speaks English as their first language. Sometimes it takes over an hour, but it can be done.

I've been down that road before. It's so frustrating listening to them read verbatim. Put on hold and transferred, this person spoke English as a first language and boom it was quickly resolved. Fortunately it didn't take an hour, maybe 15 minutes.

If your display can handle 4K/HLG/60Hz, or you don't mind some banding, you like sports enough to watch games that you have no rooting interest in, and lots of surfing and skiing films, then yes. There is no extra cost for the scheduled programming, but the 4K PPV prices are almost double what iTunes charges, and I don't know if they are HDR.
