...it would be nice if DirecTV would pull their thumb out, and update the 4k events schedule. They've been lazy about this before, but nothing for August on the 11th is ridiculous, especially with the NFL rumored in September...

I have updated my schedule on AVS forum
August looks like a slim month for 4K

Only 4 events total
2 EPL soccer games

1 MLB , and 1 college at end of month

But yes I need DirecTV to update their schedule too

Directv II HD/4k

Have an equipment upgrade appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I’m replacing my HR-54 with the Genie 2 (I assume the HS-17).

Main reason I’m upgrading is I wanted the 2 4K streams (have two 4K sets) support in time for the upcoming football season.

How is the GenIe 2 these days? Anybody have any recent impressions or comments about it?
Before you say anything mdram , I know I’m going to be giving up some timers by going to the HS-17. I’m perfectly fine with that as we don’t really record many shows anymore that we care about. Plus it’s easy to find past episodes through online means anyway.

Thanks in advance!

The only small issue I have with Genie 2 is that it currently does not support the LCC (Local Channel Connector).
I live in a Nexstar dispute market and have no option for LCC.

Beyond that I am enjoying the Genie 2.

once again this is a small issue.

as was said, no LCC support
and if you have any other dvrs or receivers, you have to change them to minis
some people like it, some dont, the directv forums are always full of complaints
a main thin is keep it away from your wireless router, it seems to interfere with some of them
also, go all wired for clients, there can be issues with wireless

TV- Samsung 55" UHD (UN55JU6500FXZA)
service - directv
Receiver - Denon AVR-X2100W,
Speakers -F L/R - Infinity Primus P363, C - Infinity Primus PC351
Sub - Klipsch Sub-12HG
(slow build out)

The LCC is a POS, so lack of support is no big issue, IMO.

Don’t think I need the LCC, I’m fortunate to be in a location where I can get most of the local channels OTA with an indoor antenna.

I’ve been quite happy with mine after I made the switch several months ago. I have 4 wireless C61K’s (3 UHD TVs & 1 HDTV), one of which is within 3’ of my Google router, and no issues. Navigation speed on the clients is much better than it was when I had my HR54 and of course I can now stream 2 4K programs.

To sum up, I’ve had no downsides and only pluses.

I was wondering does the genie 2 count as monthly tv box even though it doesn't actually display video itself? Right now I have a genie 54 and 2 genie mini's. I get the first 2 boxes free and get charged 7 dollars for every extra box. So I have 3 boxes total but only get charged 7 dollars for one of them.

there is a c61w that is wireless

but you do not have wireless c61k, they do not exist

Other than one is wireless and one isn’t, are there any other differences between the two?

Best thing I’ve done is get rid of my HR-24’s for the Genie 2 system. Yes, I gave up a couple of tuners. I also gained a much faster system overall. Plus, the 4K capability.

For those who had access to it, tip of the hat to KCBS' engineers and the truck crew working the LA-Oakland game on Saturday night. That's some of the best NFL PQ I've seen since the early days of CBS-HD via WWJ in Detroit (which had no subchannels at the time). Granted, it got DirecTV's MPEG-4 conversion, but it was still fantastic.

It looked pretty good, better than the Ch. 5 Raider feed. You should have seen the back-haul. BTW, Doc how are you getting KCBS in Fla. or Mich. on D? Thx..

Wish I'd seen the backhaul. I used to watch the uncompressed CBS forward feeds at WWJ in Detroit when I worked for CBS. Back when they just had the two HD network feeds. Man that was outstanding.

Yes, D*

Wow, this whole CBS/Nexstar dispute still hasn’t been resolved? Has anyone been able to get any kind of service credit for lack of content that we paid for?

Good news - they finally updated the page.
Bad news - it's now, essentially, blank. Well done!
