Lol I believe I had (actually its now sitting in my garage) a slightly older 73" Mits DLP than you. My new Vizio m-series just blows it away. Except the amount of light it reflects <insert standard rant about NO ONE making matte screens anymore>

I'm still rocking my 82" Mits. There just isn't enough content for me to justify purchasing a 4K TV. 1080p needs 50" or larger. 4K needs 84" or larger. None of the inexpensive projectors do HDR. None of the broadcast OTA networks do 4K. None of the major cable networks do 4K. It's just too early like 2001 or something.

I enjoyed, but didn't love the initial episode of "TGT."

Spoiler!

I haven't upgraded from old 1080p because the 4K HDR content standards are still fluxing and largely because buying a new television is an exercise in annoyance. I don't have the patience right now to roll the dice and hope that after delivery, install and switching it on there are no flashlights and mura jumping off the screen. I live with boring old HD TGT.

Especially since TWC/Spectrum is still thinking of ways to screw the customer and recoup their merger costs. My broadband usage is already probably a target for them as it is without adding 4K to the mix.

Yes, I have a Vizio 'M' in my bedroom. Gorgeous PQ, no doubt. I don't think it is any better than the DLP, just different.

The Grand Tour, presuming they do a similar bit, will no doubt have well-known, international guests.

Has anyone specifically confirmed that the Grand Tour is in HDR and not just 4K? When I watched it last week it showed in 4K but not in HDR. It never triggered the HDR10 flag on my 2016 Vizio P-series. The content was playing through the Samsung K8500 UHD Blu ray player.

I'm on nearly the same setup as you, except a 2016 Vizio M-series, and it was in HDR. Make sure you are not using HDMI port 5. Have you tested any other Amazon shows for HDR? Red Oaks or Bosch for example.

Yes I have tried the other shows and they all show HDR = Yes in the settings menu. I watched the Grand Tour the second that it was made available last week(7:00 PM Eastern). I wonder if something has changed since then? Maybe they forgot to flip a flag in the beginning? I will try it again tonight and see if it has changed. I could tell that the show was meant to be in HDR because the colors were not according to REC.709. However, the HDR flag never flipped so it really didn't look right.

I believe I read somewhere on here that is was not streaming in HDR when the first episode was released. Apparently it didn't start in HDR until a few hours afterwards. I would try it again.

I watched Episode 1 of The Grand Tour on Amazon the day it was released. When I watched it, it was indeed streaming in 4K HDR.

To be expected, yes, but doesn't mean it will interest everyone around the globe. The Grand Tour seems more world-friendly so far. I think I watched one episode of TG USA, the hosts were the reason that show failed.

I tried again last night and it still was just 4K without HDR. I tried everything to get it to trigger HDR but nothing worked. I was able to get HDR from youtube though with the Chromecast Ultra. That looked fantastic but I would rather have The Grand Tour in HDR instead.

FYI, Someone in another thread suggested finding the show in the UHD category and playing it from there. Apparently that is the only way to trigger the HDR part of UHD. However, I haven't tried it yet so I am not sure if it works or not.

Eh? Amazon Video doesn't support casting.

That is the problem, you won't get Amazon 4K HDR (as far as I know) from any Google device (casting included). You'd need andevice that supports Amazon 4K HDR like the Roku, UHDBR players or possibly the 4K gaming systems.

Enjoyed the 1st episode. It wasn't perfect, but I expected more of an intro since this is a new show. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Watched Episode 1 - loved it! Starved for some Top Gear, I am! There is only one Jeremy Clarkson. I am a big fan of the show and the hosts, and I would watch it on a B&W 13" TV if I had to - who gives a snot about HDR, 4k and all that. It's the show that counts! Well done, Amazon!

I partially agree with that. I actually enjoyed the us tg, except for tanner. He's a hell of a driver, he's just kind of a giant douche or maybe a turd sandwich. I can't really decide...My wife liked him because she thought he was cute , but I digress.
Adam was on Rescue Me, which I was a big fan of, so I liked him.
Rut is a fellow ga boy and a self proclaimed nerd. He's a dork but knows a ton about cars and is a smart a$$, to which I can relate.
The show wasn't shot as well as the OG tg which was fantastic. Hope they can continue that feel. The newer tg' camerawork was good but evans just lost me when he got involved on screen so stopped paying attention.

I enjoyed TGUS. The last 3 seasons were good. This has potential to be as good as TGUK was, hopefully it gets there in the next few episodes without regressing.

I thought it was awkward, especially the celebrity/audience fight bit. The American Stig was no walk in the park either.

The bummer about that is that these three guys work so well together that in order for something of theirs to be bad it has to be poorly written, directed or produced. As a big top gear fan, I'm holding out hope that the series will improve. If not, I see another producer punching incedent in the near future.

The HDR did look stunning though!

I was trying to get the HDR Grand Tour from the Samsung K8500. I was just selecting the wrong program. I had to scroll down to the UHD section and then select The Grand Tour. Then in played in UHD HDR and everything is great now. Youtube UHD HDR is amazing as well. HDR life really is all that it is cracked up to be.

Yeah, Amazon doesn't make it easy to find its UHD lineup. You have to scroll down several pages from the top of the home screen to get to the UHD lineup. Otherwise you will likely get the 1080 version of what you had hoped to see in UHD.

It actually gave me the non-HDR UHD version instead of the full HDR UHD version. I agree their interface is really bad.

Episode 2 is up. Hopefully you are not expecting to see a lot of cars.

I'm beginning to think that without any enforced limits and just a rubber stamp approval this show might not turn out that well. I've only skimmed through the episode so far and it reminds me of the horrible India special and all the scripted sitcom goofing segments without cars that went on too long.

Give it a C for effort but lost interest pretty earlier in this episode. They need to get rid of the stupid celebrity segment.

I thought the episode was great. They changed it up from the 1st episode so it appears that they're still working on a format that they like and works for viewers.

They did overdo the special forces bit with the repeated 'kills' though. It was funny the first couple of times where May got sniped but 5-6 more times was silly.

For the 'celebrity' bit, two weeks in a row ? That's stupid.... Makes me think they're giving a hint that they're not going to have this part of the show.

I enjoyed the second episode as well. It's not going to be the same and it may take some time for them to find a rhythm.

I thought the second episode was severely lacking in automobile-related content.
