"Big Little Lies" on HBO

I'm surprised there's no thread on this show yet. It's got some serious star power: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgard and Shailene Woodley just to name a few.

I know we're 4 episodes into the series but I've only watched the first one; so far it seems interesting and odd, if dark. I laughed a few times, cringed a few times (not because the show was bad, but because of what people were doing or saying) and at least point said "WTF"

It seems to be getting good buzz, but the lack of a thread here makes me think I am the only one watching. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm watching it. Well done but nothing is happening very much. A lot of promise of some murder which I couldn't care a whit about so far. Nicole Kidman is such a beauty and why she is married to the vampire, I have no idea.

I find it quite interesting and dark. It's very well done. All the characters are layered. Most are spoiled, but still have depth. I think the murder mystery is actually very interesting.

Oh yeah and I agree Nicole Kidman looks absolutely tremendous for 49 ..

I'm a big fan of Nicole Kidman. 49 she's lookin good.

But how about Vanna White she's 60 years old.

The clues of this show are starting to surface in the latest episode.

These are just my opinions.

I agree, it was hard to tell what kind of show it was going to be, whom it was targeted at, and what it was about, from the previews. That's pretty much a big fail!

however, I took a chance and am enjoying the show so far.

I watched the first episode, and it was well made, but I absolutely loathed almost every character, so I haven't been back to it since.

Yeah, I could see that. Many of them are annoying, though Shailene Woodley's character is likable. As the shows continued though, they all are gaining depth. While many of them are still easy to despise, others became more interesting IMO. The show has an interesting tone to it too. Always foreboding IMO, even in the most harmless of scenes ..

Surprised there hasn't been more discussion. Has a huge online following it seems.

May be more of a chick show.

Not much happened that you couldn't have predicted. The story really wasn't much but the actors, directing, and scene writing kept it at a high level.

I didn't find much to really dislike in this series, but I keep thinking that for what was spent here, HBO could have had 2 or 3 really good dramas with unknown actors. Seriously, HBO used to be known for saving huge amounts of money by avoiding big names. Boy has that idea been left behind.

I actually thought this was really good. I didn't realize that was the finale until I was about 1/2 through watching it, and looked it up. I very much enjoyed the show and I thought all of the characters were well played and had depth. Very few were likable, but all surprised me some. The funny thing is I never really liked the acting of any of the 3 main characters prior to this series, but I thought all 3 (Kidman, Witherspoon, Woodley) did a great job here. The rest of the cast was very good IMO as well.

This was surprisingly good and kept my interest throughout...

Watched the first 2 episodes, decided it wasn't worth my time. My wife showed no interest in the storyline. Then I watched the finale last night, found out who did what and as I first suspected I saved several hours of my life for something.

It's not really a whodunnit though and the murder comes in at the last part of the last episode.

So it's not like the whole mini-series is about solving the murder.

True, but if he didn't like the first 2 eps, he wasn't going to like the rest of it. You either like the characters/direction/acting/writing or you don't.

My wife started watching this and it seemed stupid to me. But by Ep 3 I was starting to pay attention, and was watching with her by Ep 4.

I wasn't disappointed with how it ended, but I was expecting a little bit more of a twist. Either way, I have watched much worse programming on TV. :

I'm currently binging and find it rather relatable. Growing up I spent summers at a seasonal lake community and now living in a rather self-contained neighborhood (thirty lots in the "village") I relate the smallness of the arcs. From how you think you know your neighbors to how one's actions ripple throughout the community and define its interaction.

If nothing else coming from the female perspective (for the most part) makes it different enough to keep your interest for a while...

My wife and I just finished this one (7 episodes) and we both enjoyed it a lot. I loved the story and the acting was top-notch. I never thought a whole lot about Reese Witherspoon. The "Legally Blonde" movies were cute but I just didn't see her sticking around. It was refreshing to see her work in this. She's really good.

The ending was not exactly what I expected and afterwards I could kind of contrive how it needed to happen that way but I don't think it's something anyone could've predicted. This isn't really a "whodunit" but rather an "Ok, this is what happened. Let me try to figure out the lesson here..."

I binged this during a free HBO weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday. Great show, deserving of all the awards recognition it's been getting. I don't know how a season 2 can top it--in fact, I never expected a season 2. But I guess if you are going to top it, you got to bring in Streep.

it's Meryl 'frakkin' Streep!...doesn't she have like a 100 Oscars (and she gets nominated for almost every movie she's in)...this is a HUGE get for HBO and Big Little Lies...plus she almost never does TV
