"Snowfall" FX / HD Premier July 5th, 2017

Ran a search, did not look like anyone had started a Thread yet, so ..

I'm looking forward to this, especially considering John Singleton's involvement ..

Snowfall is an upcoming American crime drama television series created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron. The project, which was first set up at Showtime in 2014, was picked up by FX for a 10-episode first season on September 30, 2016. The series will premiere on July 5, 2017.

Set in Los Angeles in 1983, the series revolves around the first crack cocaine epidemic and its impact on the culture of the city. The series follows the stories of several characters whose lives are doomed to intersect: 19-year-old drug dealer Franklin Saint, Mexican wrestler Gustavo Zapata, CIA operative Teddy McDonald, and Luica Villanueva, the daughter of a Mexican crime boss ..

I thought it was well done. If you followed this story over the years you would be interested. A whole lot of pain was brought to Cali from this story.

These are just my opinions.

This was even a bit better than I expected. I especially enjoyed the story telling from several different views of the same issue. Between this and "Animal Kingdom", looks like a good summer viewing season for me.

I think, therefore I am single.

I don't know if the story is based on a true story, but sure looks like this.

For those who missed it, like me, there are a number of reairings of the pilot this week before episode 2 airs. I have a timer set for tonight at 11pm (PST).

Thanks to this thread, I was able to record the first ep. Liked it a lot. Especially the music. Season Pass from here on out ... One plus of this show is that the culpability of the US Govt. will finally be outed.

I wasn't sure I'd like this show but I recorded it just in case. I watched it last night and all I can say is what a well produced show. Really first class. Color me impressed.

Same here. I watched last night hoping to cross it off my list as a show I wouldn't be adding to my growing summer TV viewing schedule. I was attending college in LA during the mid-80s, so it's bringing back memories. I now know I have the CIA to thank for those coked-up sex orgies on campus. God Bless America!

Think of all the movies and TV series that were made because of crack cocaine. New Jack City comes to mind, America was poisoned from this and this story tells us how the epidemic got started.

These are just my opinions.

Saint is so naïve .. did he really think the dude was just going to hand over the cash, especially after what he did to the guy at the house .. ?? Now, they have an even meaner guy to attempt to get the money back from .. as the clock ticks on payment time ..

Also no thread for this show which was amazing to me.

I saw the trailers on that one, and it kind of half grabbed me, just not enough to tune in ..

Looks like Saint is back in business next episode ..

It already came to light twenty years ago. The Wa Post, Ny Times and a govt investigation all found that there were a variety of reasons for the epidemic. The CIA involvement was not as great as Singleton wants people to believe.

This is the reason I may not stick around. If Singleton wants to place the entire blame on the CIA and govt, then I will have to approach the show as fantasy or not watch it altogether.

No dis here, I think the discovery channel did a 4 part doc on Drugs in a America and maybe check it out it told a complete different story than what you said.

Just looked it up and it was the History channel "America's War on Drugs" 4 part series.

These are just my opinions.

Thought I'd check in here...

My son Dave is show runner for Snowfall and wrote or co-wrote eps. 1, 2 and 10, in addition to doing
ghost writing in other episodes. He was on 'Justified' before and was brought on by FX to help John Singleton re-work his pilot script to better lead into a 10 episode season, and to run the show. Dave hired a diverse room of writers and has a great cast--we were privileged to have dinner with the cast when they came through Philly on a promotional tour a few weeks ago and they were all incredibly nice.

Anyway, none of that is a reason to stay with a show it you're not enjoying it, but hope you will, you will be rewarded if you stay with it, I think.
