A few more reminders what Good Trek-like scifi is-

Quite prescient circa 1967 re: Books > Kindle, DVD/BD/CD/$PHYSICAL_AUDIO_VIDEO_MEDIA > Streaming/downloads and your real self vs your image on social media/google search ("on the computer logss")

I had a vivid dream I was watching The Orville and they were fighting the Borg from Star Trek and to stop them they would fling large parts of the ship at the Borg like a ballista. Everyone was cheering that they were winning and than the security guard alien said she got it to work by using duct tape.

Anybody planning an ORV S2 premiere viewing meet/party in their HT?

I used to do those for Trek season premieres and finales (VOY, ENT, after I built my first HT)

Go take a look at this channel and watch JP commentary about sci-fi. He talks in a way that makes it fun to listen to. He thanks everyone for subscribing to 'his stupid channel'. Folks, it's not and it's highly thought out and very informative.

It's official. ONE WEEK to go and will follow the Fox doubleheader next Sunday, then go to its regular Thursday time slot the following week.
I'm seriously hoping that season 2 maintains the high standards that season 1 had - in other words, please son't suck.

YEs, spot on commentary and opinions re: why so many life long Trek fans prefer ORV over STD and what CBS/Trek IP owners ought to do moving forward.

I suspect by the time CBS "figures it out" and rediscovers what fans want/why they became fans in the first place, most will have moved onto several seasons of a rich ORV Universe and be wearing their ORV uniforms to cons while their Trek uniforms collect dust in the closet and batteries leak in their Art Asylum Tricorders

Continuity (visual/aesthetic/technical) and technical canon aspects of Trek fandom are well covered with the Trekyards guys...

Just saw Seth on Live with Kelly & Ryan this morning; he's promising "bigger and more cinematic" episodes; definitely looks like we can expect to see an even more "home theatre worthy" production this season...and Adrianne Palicki looks even more "smokin' hot" than she did last year!

Don't fear the Reaper. Fear the Repack!

Loved the first episode of the new season. Had me laughing at multiple parts. I love how they took a stupid pee joke and treated it seriously.

I guess the doctor and robot will be a item which I guess they have been building to. The entire cheating kid plot was dumb but I kind of liked it because it was dumb. It is like one of those things that would happen but you never see on a sci fi show. The pee plot was kind of the same way but it was also a allusion to Volcans having to return home every few years.

A+ episode for me.

Don't see what all the fuss is about, they introduced some new characters, new relationships.... and Bortis peed... a typical Orville episode.

Rather than looking at the season two premier as something special.... just imagine it as a regular weekly episode, then you'll like it

Ed's shuttle "drive by" was hilarious! Even in space you need to pull the blinds occasionally.

I thought it was fairly uninteresting. Good thing I had it recorded, the amount and frequency of commercials seemed to be huge.

I liked when the mom of the kid said "my kid DOESN'T lie" with a straight face. I've had parents tell me the same thing when my kids were young. Always blew my mind.

I noticed that before the show began it was announced to have limited commercials. If that was limited, imagine a standard commercial format for this show.

FWIW- the season two premier episode length w/o commercials was 48m26sec vs. the std 41-42min episode length.

What was the timeslot on commercial TV? The standard formula (content time x 1.42) brings it in at around 70min for 49min of content.

Here in PST it was 5pm and 8pm. I don't know about the numbers, it just seemed like a lot. Those numbers also don't account for frequency. It felt like I was looking for the remote pretty quickly after putting it down.

Yeah, you would think they would have a season opening that would attract new viewers after a NFL game! It probably hurts their ratings. That's OK. It was like a filler episode and still decent. I am just glad Orville is back again!
