'Krypton' on Syfy (2018)

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron
Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world
from chaos.

Krypton premieres in 2018 on SYFY.

Great.

Another superhero drama without the actual superhero.

Can't wait....

Unlike Batman before Batman, Superman has no decent villains to make up for his absence. Heck, other than Lex Luther, Superman himself really has no decent villains. Superman seems to wallow away his time catching people falling off buildings and preventing trains from plummeting into gorges.

What's next? The story of Riply's Mom before Alien?

I don't know, Ripley's mom in space on mining missions getting screwed over for a goddamn percentage by the Corporation while trying to make a life as a space trucker in space could be good. Throw in some space marines on just another bug hunt and general space malfunctions of androids and ships and it could be game on!

Krypton sounds like one of those CW shows about two fantasy families of star-crossed lovers trying to get along in a world of romantic soapy theatrics. But with space costumes instead of vampire hipsters, corsets or post-apocalyptic rags.

I change my vote.

I want to see that....

If they make it, we should get royalties.

Actually, they should write a show about a guy with superpowers that lives in rural Maine. He could be called "Super Maine". Each day, he could wake up and say (in a Maine accent, of course) "I'm ready to fight crime today.....should there be any..."

Super Maine: "Hey, Charlie, how do I get to the fair grounds from here?"
Charlie: "Well, it's about 8 miles....as you fly...."

You might even have a situation where there's actual crime:

Local Yoot: "Super Maine! Some guys just robbed the bank! They're headed for the Interstate!"
Super Maine: "That's OK, they can't get there from here...."

Not sure about this one, when they were on Krypton they weren't super powered, they were just normal people with advanced technology. Not sure this will be that interesting. Will try but I have my doubts.

Well...they were space explorers way before the big bang. So maybe they'll focus on that instead of "Lost & politics" on a doomed world. I hope so. Who knows...maybe they'll suggest Kryptonians were forerunners to "The Transformers" or something. Otherwise...I'm a big time skeptic like you. This could have the fate of "Caprica" written all over it.

trailers so far have been disappointing...looks like a teenage WB network type of show...I was hoping for a more serious adult oriented take on Krypton and not a teenage love story

Easy if you believe the Cosmos is a multiverse. IOW, hundreds or thousands of "bangs". Although if such is the case the distance between bang events may be so great that contact between them is probably unlikely. Anyway, the Big Bang is real and Krypton is not, so no overlap.

The Krypton that results in Supergirl and Superman coming to earth means that it has to be within the same Big Bang. All of the multiverses that have been shown in The Flash all resulted from their big bangs that have occurred at the same time.

Yikes--Krypton is beginning to look like it's gonna be yet another "origins story" series that makes exactly the same kind of "ret-con" mistakes that we've seen with Star Trek Discovery. In the teasers we see a Planet Krypton that--while an advanced civilization--looks NOTHING like any version of Krypton (and their very unearthly science and technology) that we've seen in the movies.

Hey, if the ratings for this don't live up to what SyFy is looking for, maybe they could sell this to CBS All Access!

The destruction of Krypton still can't have happened before the big bang.

And you would be 100% correct. Perhaps my stab at pithy humor was a tad too subtle for some. I thought it would be obvious I was talking about Krypton...and not the Universe.

Ahhh c'mon my fellow cheesehead. My sentence immediately following the "big bang" reference, clearly shows the intent of my point. It's not a big deal. Heck...it wasn't even a deep deal. Just sorta obvious...I thought.

The problem with both multiverse and time travel is that they let you get away with anything.

You don't need any consistency.

The no-Superman 'Metropolis' and 'Krypton': Can these shows possibly be good?

short answer: I doubt it

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...155738582.html

I didn't even know they were making this Metropolis show about Lex and Lois Lane...that actually sounds more promising then Krypton

I didn't think 'Gotham' could have been any good without Batman, but I've quite enjoyed it. In fact, it's the only one of these DC superhero shows I watch anymore. Still watch SHIELD and the Marvel Netflix series.

That said, I might watch a bit of 'Krypton' just out of curiosity, but 'Metropolis' doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Same here. IMHO, Gotham seems to work so much better than certain other series because of the sharp focus on the villains' origin stories; the less we see of the teenage Bruce Wayne, the better. He's not really the "star" of the series, just a key part if the ensemble. Let's face it, we already all know what happened to his parents and what that will cause him to become eventually.

Krypton and Metropolis though? I'll be really surprised if either one of them make it as far as Gotham did, and it sure looks like their settings won't bear very much resemblance to the alien Krypton and earthbound Metropolis depicted in the film and TV series versions.

Don't fear the Reaper. Fear the Repack!
