The Good Doctor on ABC

I can be a sucker for a good medical drama, and this one seems to be interesting enough for me to give it a second or third look.. Quirky lead characters can be fun or off putting, this one seems to hit the right tone. The only thing that did not ring true for me was toward the end then the new guy bluntly berates the chief surgeon. I think some of the boardroom stuff could have very easily been cut, some of it was very over the top. It's far from a perfect show, but interesting enough for me to see how it develops.

Norman Bates as a doctor, so he has to be strange.

I never watched the show. I didn't know he was Norman Bates until I saw him interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel Monday night.

I was planning to skip this show, but yesterday afternoon did an about face and scheduled a recording. So glad I did. I was really moved in a number of scenes. I'll keep watching as long as it keeps deserving.

The wife and I watched last night - decent pilot. It's just different enough to give it a chance and see it can sustain the same emotional level. We have never watched a Bates Motel episode so our memories of Freddie Highmore are mainly of Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

I watched the pilot last night and am on the fence because plays like the ABC suits still had to get the thing a little dumbed down. Seems like autism is the new "cause" for Hollywood though this is based on an Korean series but then you have Netflix's Atypical. All I've ever thought was there was nothing much wrong with folks with autism other than they are often out of phase with the "regular" folks. Many do have brilliant minds.

I watched, and because it's on ABC there are already elements of their obligatory soap opera themes which I have zero interest in. Additionally, the show appears to be like a House 2.0. It's Hollywood, where "been there, done that" is never enough, so, they're doing again.

Found the opening airport "emergency" a bit contrived and drawn out much too long. Not one medical responder at the airport? No ambulance response? Then he steals a knife from security. Security staff unaware of a medical emergency a short distance away?

They could have at least saved the opening crisis to somewhere away from the airport where the lack of resources would be more believable.

Too soap operish for me, one and done. We tend to like Dr. shows but this was a bit over the top.

Yeh, for one thing doing any maintenance like those workers were doing with the sign that area would have been blocked off. And yup, by the time he started doing any procedure emergency staff would have shown up, particularly at the SJ airport.

I watched the Korean drama this show was based on and liked it, so this show gets a try. For those of you with OTA, the Korean version is running concurrently here in the Bay Area, 36.2 (KEMS / KBS World), if I remember correctly. Check your local listings, if interested.

The wife & I are enjoying the show too even though the premise is ridiculous.
This week's show gave me more pause than usual when they decided to replace a femur with a 3D titanium bone, which they said had never been done before. Magically, they were able to produce one in 3 hours, which fit perfectly.

I still call him and this "Norman Bates". I don't think he shook his former character roll off enough.

.
Recording free OTA TV for 'time shifting' has been here since 1975. Will there be DVR's to do the same when ATSC3 obsoletes existing DVR's??

My wife really likes this show. I thought all the drama about him leaving was way overplayed since this is the show, I doubt they would ditch the entire cast and go somewhere new already.

...and, as if on queue, he stayed! So, the question I have is did he stay because the GF told him not to follow her or because his pseudo-father told him he would back off?

One of the few network shows I still DVR. I see they are adding a new character in the next episode. Is he Korean? That would be a nice homage to the show this one is based on.

Its a Face-off! The few people who had that done in real life, didn't look quite that good afterwards. Surgeons must be getting better at it. that would be incredibly hard for a Mom to see.

Unless they took the bone structure from the donor (which they didn't), the face would look nothing like it originally did. In order to even have any success you would have to reconstruct the bone structure of the recipient, especially in her case, as she was pretty messed up. Pretty unrealistic, I'd have to say.

However, on the flip side, getting high and putting a golf ball through a window is pretty damn realistic!

Initially I enjoyed the show, but for me it got repetitive. I'm happy it got renewed for those still watching, but I dumped the stuff on my DVR and canceled the recording. I keep an eye on this thread to see if anything that might interest me pops up and if so I may start watching again.

Started watching when I found out that Antonia Thomas from Lovesick is in it then found out that a high school classmate is one of the executive producers. It's entertaining enough if not all that realistic. The face off was better than most episodes with a nice balance between the stoner road trip and the operation. Glad it got renewed.
