here's somewhat of a recap of the main events...I say 'somewhat' because the show is so dense and complicated that you really need to remember so many details regarding the characters, their relationships with other characters, who they were in the various time periods (1953, 1986, 2019) etc that no recap will be able to cover everything...

there also seems to be a new color grading...the same locations from S1 look more vibrant...almost like HDR was added (even though there is still no HDR support)...overall the cinematography looks better...at the end of S1 I was worried about the introduction of yet another time period (2052) and thought the show might not be able to hold all this together but so far the show is just as smart and engaging...

Do people get this in Atmos?

It only comes across in stereo PCM to me. All other Netflix Atmos content, that I checked, comes across in Atmos on the same set-up but Dark does not.

Episode 6!...WOW!...mind blown...the writing on this show is on another level...makes you look at events from Season 1 in a different light...the amount of details and ripple effects the writers had to figure out and have everything make sense is totally insane

I just finished watching the final episode of Season 2...I'm totally confused!...those last 4 episodes were amazingly good- confusing but good...so many emotional character moments mixed with some crazy time travel paradoxes...the character arcs of Hannah and Ulrich were so well done...this season went all in with the sci-fi even more so then Season 1...right now my mind is fried...

It appears they dropped ATMOS support for Season 2! I know in Season 1 to get Atmos you had to select "German" as the primary audio track. I tried all available tracks in Season 2 and no joy on getting Atmos. Sad cause the show has awesome Atmos sound in Season 1.

On the positive side they did make the English track better in Season 2. So not all bad I guess.

BTW I was getting 5.1 PCM Via Apple TV4K using the English Audio track. What audio track did you have selected?

I thought the first half of the season (first 4 episodes) was a bit slow and was worried they weren't going to reach the lofty heights of S1 but the second half (last 4 episodes) made up for that and then some...the 2nd half felt like S1 with a ton of revelations, surprises and twists...as soon as various characters started moving between time periods it got crazy again with some amazing payoffs...the pacing is mostly excellent as the story seems to unfold naturally and they don't wait until the final episode or 2 to give you the big Wow moments

you can tell the writers have all 3 seasons planned out and aren't just making it up as they go along...so many payoffs in S2 that were started in S1...this is without question the best time travel series ever made (movie, TV or book)...so ambitious, intelligent and complex with excellent writing and compelling characters...show is so deep yet stays consistent within the rules it has already established (regarding time travel)...even when everything is turned sideways and backwards and your mind is fried it still makes sense in a weird way...everything feels earned...and that's because of the writing and character arcs

all the crazy questions, answers, twists, paradoxes, reveals etc all make sense once you wrap your brain around things...even though this has turned into a sprawling sci-fi epic everything feels very grounded because of the various characters...the Bootstrap Paradox was such an interesting way of explaining certain things which seemed liked it didn't have an answer...a Bootstrap Paradox is when an item is sent back in time and exists without ever being created in the first place (The Journey Through Time book written by H.G. Tannhaus being one example)

the casting director deserves an Emmy...3+ time periods and most of the various characters at different ages look so spot on it's uncanny...old Ulrich looked so much like middle age Ulrich that I thought it was the same actor wearing some prosthetic makeup...I looked up the actor online just to make sure it was 2 different actors...

Hannah and Ulrich's story arcs were amazing this season...some really emotional character moments mixed with amazing plot...

Spoiler!

Cant read your spoiler on my phone so I'll check it tomorrow. Bootstrap paradox has nothing on the Doppler paradox.

I thought the pacing was great. Eased you in and then dropped bombs in ascending episodes.

Easily my favorite show, and yes it should be a award winner. Cast is fantastic, I'll be watching the dubbed version later see if I missed any visuals.

Production starts in 4 weeks on Season 3🙂

actually production on S3 starts tomorrow (June 24th)...I think they gave away the S3 premiere date in Episode 1 of S2- June 27th 2020...same way that S2 premiered on the date that Michael Kahnwald killed himself (June 21 2019)...only issue is that 06/27/20 is a Saturday so maybe the release date will be 06/26/20

I think the 1.5 year delay between season S1 & 2 was because they were writing both S2 and 3 together...3 seasons, 3 cycles, 33 years...it all fits perfectly into the theme of the show which revolves around the number 3

another really cool thing about the show is how it combines real-life science such as Higgs boson, which is a particle physics theory (God particle)...also instead of using the commonly used alternate timeline approach to their time travel paradoxes it seems Dark sticks to one basic time structure where everything that happens is all in 1 overall time loop...so running into your older/younger self is possible and you can still exist even after being killed due to the existence of a younger version of yourself...I mentioned this earlier but it seems everything is an inescapable fate so I'm not sure how much actual free will there is

are any of the events based on actual choice?...it seems like every choice leads to the same inescapable fate

I love that the events on Dark are both a cause and effect of one another...another crazy Bootstrap Paradox is who actually recruited who?...did Jonas first recruit Claudia or vice versa?...past/future versions of the characters met up at several points in the timeline but it's hard to figure out which happened first...

Spoiler!

The ending of S2 blew my mind, totally unprepared for. It's more puzzling than Westworld.

From my low paygrade perspective, S2 did not address who these people really are - Alexander, the girl from the future (cohort of the girl with heterochromia) and Clausen.

We jsut have to wait another year or so.

when you're dealing with time travel anything is theoretically possible ...go back in time, age normally and when you get back to the original time period things will happen the way they always happened

I think the show is way too smart and clever for most mainstream audiences...it requires a level of concentration and intelligence that a lot of people aren't used to when it comes to a TV series...it's the smartest and most complex show I've ever seen...and the thing that makes it great is that everything actually makes sense if you start to really think about but it also leads to more questions...the showrunners have created an elaborate labyrinth but they actually seem to have everything plotted out...this is not a puzzle box show where they are making it up as they go along...this is a show for smart people made by smart people...
