Arnold Vosloo will always be Habib Marwan, in 24, Season 4.. One of the greatest villains, almost brought Jack down. Enjoyed Season 2 of Jack Ryan. "Bunk Moreland" Greer was excellent, especially toward the end

Really? Unlike when we only had the big three networks, with so much original programming coming from Amazon, Netflix, HBO, etc., etc., and the addition of cable/satellite channels such as FX and AMC, we see many actors appear much more often in other series. We didn't have that 40 years ago. It may be just us, but we have fun trying to remember what series it was that we last saw them in.

Yeah, really. Its almost like they have a job to do that.

Speaking of which . . . wasn't John Krasinksi in some popular sit-com a while back.

More importantly, he's married to Emily Blunt.

Four episodes in and really liking it. Glad they moved the season to some place other than the overdone extremism of the Middle East.

Catching up in season 1. Not bad. Fight scenes might be a little over the top, but I like the cast

For those of us with flagging memory, we can always use Bing to determine what series we saw that actor in before.

4 episodes in and I'm not loving this season as much as S1...the setting is great and they've had some excellent action sequences but overall the story is not jumping out at me...seems like the typical action hero vs evil villain movie...S1 at least had some nuances where we were meant to see the villains as more then just mustache twirling bad guys...the HDR10 implementation is also very average to poor...and most of the episodes are really short as well...still a very good action series but it's not on the same level as S1

co-showrunner Carlton Cuse left the series in the middle of S2 (or maybe he left after the season wrapped?) so that might be a factor as well

Watched SE2 I thought it was OK certainly not as good as SE1 and of course this is as Tom Clancy as Watchmen is Alan Moore. That Venezuela introduction by Ryan at the college was written by some NPC who knows as much or willfully ignorant about why that country is in the toilet like many of his TDS suffering comrades.. Clancy researched a lot stuff before he put anything into books. Now that he's gone I guess anything goes... As for the rest it kept my interest, it had that "Clear and Present Danger" vibe and some elements of that novel/film, which also made the ending predictable. A C+. YMMV.

Good to know. I'm probably going to start S2 pretty soon. Also, I love that you used the term NPC

I watched the first episode of S1 a while back. It seemed weak to me compared to other fare. I gave S2 with two episodes but still is a weak series. I've seen other shows by the showrunner that were much better.

everyone remembers Carlton Cuse from his days on LOST but he also was the showrunner for the excellent prequel series to 'Psycho', Bates Motel on A&E...Freddie Highmore made a great Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga also was excellent in it...

Overall disappointed in S2. Lots of tired tropes ("I'm not leaving without him!"), relatively sloppy dialog, predictable outcomes, and over-the-top-ending. Really? Flying an American military helicopter to Caracas, landing on the roof of the Presidential Palace and shooting the place up? Laughable. The final twist was, besides predictable, surprisingly lame.

S1 was good. S2 was... not. Hoping, if they choose to make S3, they bring the S1 writers back.

Yeah, one scene was almost a direct lift from the movie with a different angle and much less time spent on the sequence,

Going back to familiar actors. The guy playing Matice was driving me nuts. I kept saying I saw him in something recently. Like real recently. Watching football tonight I had my lightbulb moment during a commercial. He’s the Bud Light king. Dilly dilly.

I finished up Season 2...overall a major step down from the first season...was very bland and boring...the Venezuelan villains were boring...the only cool part was the German assassin played by the GoT vet...they were globetrotting around the world but there seemed to be a lack of any major action set-pieces...overall it felt very formulaic and they seemed to be injecting more political messages into the story as far as Trump comparisons...now that Carlton Cuse has exited the series I'm worried that the show will sink further...the guy formerly in charge of FOX's Prison Break has taken the reigns for Season 3 which is not a good sign

and to top it off the HDR10 quality was not all that impressive especially coming from the reference Dolby Vision of Season 1...the Tom Clancy novels hold a lot of potential for future seasons so I think the show can still right the ship

Season 2 grade: C

Finished last night and overall enjoyed season 2. Maybe I don't have as high of expectations or thought season 1 to be so great to consider season 2 a major step down. I mainly appreciated that it was different: not the typical "24"-like race against the clock to stop a major terrorist attack by Middle East extremists. I liked the less common setting amid a South American country's political turmoil and government corruption (timely on multiple levels).

Yes, some of the characters and story lines could've been developed a bit more, but I think the show was trying to keep the pacing up and will hopefully find a better balance next season. It would be nice to see "Harriet the Spy" return.

Though I realize it's like shooting ducks in a barrel to pick apart a show like this for "that would never happen" moments, there were a couple unbelievable plot points that stand out:

Spoiler!

As far as production quality, the 4K Ultra HDR10 Dolby Atmos looked and sounded great on my 1080p Panny plasma and 6.1 audio system.

I think we can put to rest the concerns at the beginning of this thread over whether John Krasinski could pull off Jack Ryan. He has been very convincing.

On a side note about actors and characters. I watched Bosch's Lance Reddick on Off Camera Sunday night. It took me about 20 minutes until I could get his character, Irvin Irving, out of my head and see him for the person he is.

My GF and I have been sick with colds this week, so we binged both seasons in about 3 or 4 days. We were also bothered by the drone pilot subplot. When the couple gave their names as Stanley Kowalski and Blanche DuBois, I thought for sure they were spies trying to get secrets from him. But the whole thing just went nowhere.

In addition to the Annandale, MD, and non-existent hospital near Nats Park, I also noticed that on Jack's first date with Cathy, those were dungeness crabs, not Maryland blue crabs, and it was a pretty fancy-looking place for a crab house.

Then in S2, Cathy completed disappeared so he could sleep with Harriett the spy.

There was a comment in episode 2 I believe where Ryan says that he's single. That's about it.
