Just saw the commercial for a new Prime series coming in August. Looks like 10 episodes are already upcoming.
Found some more info here:

Yep -- looking forward to checking it out.

Krasinski did a good job in "13 Hours" so looking forward to seeing how he does in this one.

I'm interested but the trailers don't really do anything for me...looks a bit dull plus I'm not sure if Krasinski is the right guy to play Ryan...I'm hoping this turns out good but as of now am very skeptical

Well, he'll be the fifth Ryan, all portrayed by very different actors. Whether Krasinski is right for the part depends entirely on what kind of series they're making, and we don't know that yet.

IMO, the mistake they make over and over is rebooting the character in order to make him just another young, square-jawed action hero, which is just boring. The Harrison Ford version had problems of its own, but at least he was a little older, a little deeper, and a little more reluctant to be turned into a field agent.

So we'll see, but I'm less than optimistic.

It's amazing what marketing can do. Amazon already has a great spy series called "Patriot". It doesn't have a thread on AVSForum. However, Amazon chooses to promote "Jack Ryan," because Tom Clancy was hot in the 80's.

I really hope that "Jack Ryan" is less "24" and "Strikeback," and more "Homeland" or "Patriot". However, after viewing yesterday's Superbowl commercial, I'm not optimistic.

that's the first trailer for this show that really impressed me...that looked really amazing...I'm definitely in now...this might actually be Amazon's first real mainstream blockbuster unlike Netflix which has a ton of buzz worthy shows...I'm still not convinced that John Krasinski is the ideal Jack Ryan but I'm willing to give him a shot...

Agreed! Looks decent enough to watch! 4K HDR will be nice - wonder if they will do Dolby Vision

Prime doesn’t do DV just HDR/HDR+

Dolby Vision is better but Amazon's implementation of HDR looks really impressive recently...right up there with the best DV titles from Netflix...that Electric Dreams show on Amazon looked pretty stunning for the most part...I'm sure Jack Ryan will be HDR10+

You obviously didn’t read your link because it clearly states Amazon is going HDR10+ yes you’ll find some older titles in DV for example Bosch season 2.

While I agree that the trailer looked decent I wonder if this segment hasn't been oversaturated. There's been a lot of stop-the-bad-terrorist/Russian/Chinese/whomever shows out there in recent years, what makes this one stand out from anything else?

And don't say Clancy's Ryan, there's nothing special about him in TV land.

Yeah, got a Homeland feel from the trailer - not that that is a bad thing. Has to be better than State of Affairs or Seal Team

I watched the movie 'A Quiet Place' a few days back and now I'm more confident in Krasinski's ability to play the role of Jack Ryan...looks like this has the potential to be Amazon's best original show and finally a series that can be the showcase title for the streaming service...up to now Amazon didn't really have a major hit original show that could be the centerpiece of their original lineup (Man in the High Castle and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are still more niche)

Unless I missed something, S2 isn't due until later this year.

my bad...S1 got all the Emmy nods...if it wins a lot of awards it should help the show get more of a mainstream audience...I still think it's a niche show...Amazon needs a show to build their original lineup around...when I think of Hulu the first thing that comes to mind is Handmaid's Tale...Netflix has a bunch but most people will probably choose Stranger Things...Amazon?...people still think of them as an online shopping portal

We've gotten into a lot of Amazon originals over the past year. Some are one and done and some are just hanging out there waiting to continue, or not. The productions by both Amazon and Netfix are extremely impressive.

Niche or not, I've found these to be very good.

Trapped - Subtitled with a little English thrown in. An excellent whodunit drama.
Catastrophe - This is hilarious. The two main actors do all of the writing. Three season so far and anxiously awaiting for S4.
Sneaky Pete - most are familiar with this excellent series.
Mad Dogs - One and done. The drama, tension, cast, and the unexpected make this an exciting ride.
Red Oaks - Three seasons and complete. This is a coming of age series and not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
The Last Tycoon - One and done. F. Scott Fitzgerald's last work. Very enjoyable.
Bosch has been mentioned.
I'd like to see the return of Patriot.

Okay, that took this OT.

Okay, that took this OT.
Patriot is getting a second season. I generally avoid 'one and dones' on Prime assuming it to be a reflection of the quality. But as soon as I heard of the Patriot's renewal, it jumped to the top of my list as I've seen it come up in "most underrated/overlooked" shows lists.

Most of the shows on Prime mentioned above aren't "niche" anymore than a dark dystopian vision of an oppressive misogynistic government based on a short 1980s sci-fi novel is. They are just obscure and under the radar because Amazon doesn't put its marketing weight into promoting these shows like it seems to be doing for Jack Ryan. Most of these shows I wouldn't have even heard of if not for browsing Prime's app for other things or visiting this forum. I'm sure season 2 of Mrs. Maisel will get quite a bit more of a push, as did season 2 of High Castle.

Transparent won a ton of awards (Emmys, Golden Globes, etc.) but Amazon didn't seem to know what to do with it as far as parleying it into an opportunity to draw attention to the rest of its Prime lineup in the way Hulu has done with Handmaid's Tale. It doesn't even show up very high in my recommendation lists in the Prime app.

"Transparent" was not unknown or undermarketed. It got sidetracked due to the lead's bad behavior off camera.

"Patriot" and EPIX's "Deep State" are the only two spy shows I've ever seen without significant hype.

Amazon advertised "Jack Ryan" during the Super Bowl! They renewed it for a 3rd season before the first episode even aired. Now that is the definition of hype.

Jeffrey Tambor derailing the show's success and future is a relatively recent development, the allegations of bad behavior only coming to light in November 2017 after Transparent's fourth season premiered. So yes, any future leveraging of the show to promote Amazon's originals is as likely as Netflix running House of Cards ads at this point. But I'm speaking of the relative lack of promotion during the height of its success. I don't think I would've seen or heard much about it if I didn't follow the major award shows or have Prime.

I had to stop watching Absentia on Amazon Prime...I really wanted to like it and I was hoping it was going to be good - but I just couldn't make it through the last 3-4 episodes. That and Lost In Space...just didn't hold my attention and I will usually at least try to finish a season if I start it
