Manifest on NBC

In the beginning of the trailer I was like pass, then when they revealed the mystery I was like hmmm, sounds interesting.

This is one of the very few shows I plan to try next season. The landscape is pretty bleak this year.

Not a fan of the lead actor but we still plan on checking it out. They have tried this so many times, not sure what they will do different but fingers crossed.

I am on line to try this one out, but would like to know if the story runners have plans to resolve the MacGuffin in the end or fish around as they did in Lost, so unsatisfactorily leaving us with a very bad taste in our mouths.

^ not to worry about a conclusion... it's on NBC... it will get canceled regardless if it a hit or a dud!

I'll give it a watch but I can't help but feel that we've seen this show before, it just had a different name.

I've been hoping for a reboot of the 4400 (or at least a satisfying conclusion), but not like this.

I hope this is gonna be good, because skeptical posters all over the 'net are already saying things like "I liked this idea better when it was called Twilight Zone...or Flash Forward...or Millennium(1989 feature film with Cheryl Ladd)...or Department "S"(a sort of a 1970s U.K. "X-files" type series), etc. Me, I'm guessing it will be one of those "dimensional rift to a slightly different universe" storylines, because the mediocre writers of scripted network TV shows have been very big on that lately. Hope I'm wrong and this proves to be really good, but hey...it's NBC.

Don't fear the Reaper. Fear the Repack!

"Under the dome" , "Wayward Pines" , "Resurrection" , " The Crossing " ... ....

I'll watch the premier, but I'm not getting my hopes up that it wont quickly degenerate into a"soap drama of the week" , -- this week will be current & flashbacks of the guy in seat 22C's wife who re-married .. , next episode deals with the son of "passenger 12B", who got older and took over the family business ..." etc...
Seems it could have been a summer replacement-type series, but hope not .....

I'd like to see the people from the airplane come back with information about how shows like The Event, Revolution, Flash Forward, My Own Worst Enemy, Threshold, Journeyman, Almost Human, the aforementioned 4400, and dozens of others I didn't bother watching, ended.

Manifest Review: Is NBC's Sci-Fi Drama Another High-Concept Crash and Burn?

Grade: C-

ever since Lost, TV’s batting average with high-concept dramas like this has been pretty dismal...since NBC only sent out the pilot episode for review, we have no way of knowing if this show will actually fulfill its early promise — but the first hour didn’t grab me hard enough that I want to stick around to find out...

Yeah, I don't know if there's one of those failure threads yet for this season but I predict this one is toast before the 9th episode airs. If episode 10 makes it to air then I might take a look at it, but it just seems really derivative.

Yep. Pass. No time for retreaded mediocrity. I normally love stuff like this, but didn't we get one just like it last year that's already been cancelled? People show up after a long period with no memory of where they've been? Hasn't that concept played out by now?

it does have a nice concept but I just don't trust that NBC will deliver the payoff...they'll string out the mystery for multiple seasons and it'll end up being something corny...being that's on a broadcast network they're looking to appeal to a wide audience so they'll be afraid to take any real risks...the cast also seems very boring and generic

The pilot was OK. The characters are too bland and clean for my taste. It was more emotional than I expected. I’m gonna stick with it because I love the concept. Hopefully it holds my interest.

The pilot was also just OK for me. Way too rushed IMO. I'll see how it goes in the next episodes.

T'was ok. Kept my interest for the most part. Only looked at my phone a few times. So now all these folks have powers? It's like Lost meets Heroes. Lol. Hey, maybe this is The Event we've been waiting for?

The writing on most US network shows is pretty lame. I've almost given up hope. I recorded ep1 from last night but my skepticism is so high I don't know if I'll even start it. It reminds me of a mashup of Lost & The Event with a little Twilight Zone thrown in. I really liked Lost but that train wreck ending was ABC's snafu

NBC's track record with SF mysteries is poor. Revolution turned into Mystery Science Theater fodder.

I'm with you. Cancellation bait.

I just read the TVLine review. Not encouraging summary. I'm not wasting my time.

"But again, we’ve been down this road before: We’ll probably never get any answers, and even if we do, they’re bound to disappoint. We’re like Charlie Brown, trying over and over again to kick that damn football. Even if you enjoy the Manifest premiere, how can you ever trust it to deliver? Since we can’t skip forward a few years in time to see if it does, better to just leave this flight untaken. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE: NBC’s Manifest serves up another nifty sci-fi premise, but we’re wary — especially after a corny, uninspiring pilot."

‘Manifest’ Off To Strong Ratings Start, ‘Magnum P.I.’ Modest As New TV Season Starts
By Patrick Ryan and Bill Keveney, USA Today - Sep. 25, 2018

Snapshot: New series premieres: Manifest (NBC, 2.2 rating in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers), Magnum P.I. (CBS, 1.2, 8.1 million); Returning series premieres: The Big Bang Theory (2,4, -38%, 12.7 million) tops night, Young Sheldon, The Good Doctor, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Bull also down double-digits; The Resident was op a fraction from its regular-slot series debut.

The 2018-19 broadcast season launched last night amid an unprecedented upheaval among the top management at the networks. And while the constant shuffles have been distracting, let’s try and focus on how the new and returning series performed in their openers. While Live+Same day ratings is no longer a currency the networks use, they are still a pretty good indicator of which shows are breaking through and which ones are failing to do so.

We have the first potential fall breakout series in NBC’s Manifest, which debuted to a 2.2 rating in 18-49 and 10.3 million viewers, building onto its Voice lead-in (2.0, 9.6 million), the first NBC Monday telecast to do so. The missing plane drama, whose pilot’s opening act was released online ahead of the premiere, topped the 10 PM drama competition, the Season 2 premiere of ABC’s The Good Doctor (1.4, 7.8 million), last year’s premiere night standout alongside CBS’ Young Sheldon, and Season 3 debut of CBS’ Bull (0.9, 7.3 million)

Same feelings here, but like others I'm very concerned that NBC will once again prematurely pull the plug on a SF show leaving us hanging... again!

I enjoyed it enough to keep watching, until NBC does the inevitable and cancel it, leaving us hanging. It was light years better than Magnum PI, so there's that.
