Amazon's Jean-Claude Van Johnson series has a great bit where Van Damme goes to Romania or something to star in a ridiculous action movie reboot of Huckleberry Finn where he plays Huck and Tom Sawyer is a sexy girl with a magical paintbrush.

H50 takes place in real-world and they had one or two episodes in the first few seasons that made direct reference to Magnum PI, including the use of the theme song, TC's chopper, and the characters discussing MPI. That being said, this show is from the same crew behind the H50 reboot, so it's possible they may go there even though it's already been established that the two are not in the same reality. Also, Five-O is a generic term for Police that has been in use for many years since the original H50 show, so there's that.

You give the screenwriters too much credit for thinking about these things in a logical fashion, or caring.

The Colin Farrell S.W.A.T. movie from 2005 has the characters singing the theme song to the 1970s S.W.A.T. TV show. The characters in the movie have the same names as those in the TV show. They live in a universe where that TV show aired, and they watched it and were fans of it, and did not find it at all strange that they all have the same names and jobs as the characters from TV. Puzzle that one out.

Maybe it was just meant as a joke, similar to Deadpool making fun of Ryan Reynolds

Which is fine with me, I pretty much lost all respect for Tom Selleck after his creeper role on Friends.

It's a large crowd of new shows trying to race each other to the exit.

I can only find about seven shows worth watching on CBS, Fox, ABC, Nbc or Cw.

My worst year in the last five. My previous low was 13.

I rarely watch network shows outside of sports (X-Files is still something I watch even though it's not what it used to be in its prime)...cable is where all the good stuff is...way more gritty and real versus the dumbed down boring storytelling of network TV...the only new network show I even have remote interest in possibly watching this Fall is Manifest on NBC about the airplane that disappears (but even that's at 20% interest level)

Well... I dunno... It was tough trying to accept these new characters as the beloved and iconic original characters. They just didn't gel. I do find Higgins oddly attractive. Which is something I never thought I'd say. It's only the first episode but it all seemed rather generic. I'll give it a bit more time. The cars and scenery were nice tho.

I judge my interest level on how much I play on my phone vs. watch the screen. I almost drained the battery on my phone during this premiere. For me, the ONLY bright spot (other than Zeus and Apollo) was Higgins. I liked the actress and the way she portrayed Higgins. I can look at the cars and scenery through other means, and H50 does a better job at the scenery than M:PI did last night. Frankly, I was about to hit delete in the first 60 seconds until the reveal that was a scene from the fictional book.

I just felt no chemistry among the cast. Not sure yet, but I think I may pass on future episodes.

It was OK...kept my interest...barely.

The thing I'm curious about is do they really destroy those Ferrari's????
Those cars can't be cheap, maybe kit cars? Or was it CGI??

If this manages to survive to a 2nd season, they will clearly set up a crossover with 5-0 after showing two of their characters last night.
Wouldn't surprise me if somewhere along this season, they run into Kamekona or at least mention how there is a competing helicopter tour on the island.

That's supposedly in the 2nd episode according to promotional interviews with the producers hyping the show...

I didn't think the premiere was terrible. I watched a lot of network TV shows as a kid in the 70's and 80's. I would cringe rewatching them now.

Fortunately, I have Netflix, HBO, Starz, AMC, F/X, Amazon, Hulu, etc. to keep me entertained, when a show fizzles. I'm giving this one a standard 3-episode try. After that, I might bail. To CBS's credit, at least it's not another cop/medical/legal procedural.

Felt like they through to much in the first episode. Draw out the Banter between Higgins and Thomas. Make her more mysterious. Nope, first episode she takes a....then winks at T.....and kick as.... If you watched it, you can fill in the blanks, don't want to spoil it. And the Ferrari's???k WTF???? First episode? Rick and Thomas are too a like. Rick is kind of the Badass while Thomas is getting his ass kicked. And Rick has the connections? Rick P.I.???? TC and Higgins are the only likable characters to me. IMO, dead by the end of October, if that far.
