2018-2019 NBA Season thread

NBA Season starts up tonight!...I'm really hyped for this season...I really like the Celtics...not just in the East but they're right there with Golden State as championship favorites...Warriors are better overall (especially with the addition of Demarcus Cousins) but boredom and fatigue are an issue...Celtics almost have too much talent and Brad Stevens need to manage a lot of egos and minutes...I like Toronto a lot (if Kawhi is invested in playing)...I don't like the 76ers as much as others do...Markelle Fultz will be starting games but he will not be starting the 2nd half of games...very strange...Milwaukee is my sleeper in the East...Giannis Antetokounmpo is a stud

the West is once again loaded...Lakers will unfortunately be getting a lot of media attention and hype but the reality is that they're not very good...I really like OKC, Denver and Utah to make waves...Houston took a step back but they should still be right there in the mix as a Top 3 team in the West...Anthony Davis and Damian Lillard are going to fun to watch as well...

one of the best things about the NBA being back- TNT's Inside the NBA...best studio show by far...I love that show...really smart and funny...time to hoop!!

what you're not a Charlotte Hornet fan??... ...as far as the Warriors, this is their last year in Oakland...next year they're moving to that new spiffy looking Chase Center arena in San Francisco...this is the first year that I actually think another team besides the Warriors can realistically win the title...maybe that's why I'm so excited for this season...

I was, once. Was even a season ticket holder for the first few years. Then George Shinn got caught with his pants down and disgraced (sexual harassment seems to be a problem with the owners of Charlotte sports teams; see also: Jerry Richardson). He moved the team to New Orleans and kept the Hornets name, which had a special historical significance to Charlotte. (The British called the local rebels a "nest of hornets" during the Revolutionary War.) That pissed a lot of locals off, me included. David Stern could have denied the move, and he should have. Shinn would have sold the team to a local dude (Michael Jordan was interested even then), retired to Mar-a-Lago or somewhere with his zillions, and everything would have been ducky.

Then came the Bobcats, whose name derived from Bob Johnson, the new owner, who was a media (founder of BTV) zillionaire from DC who never gave a damn about the team. He really wanted a baseball team but settled for basketball when that wasn't in the cards. When the Hornets finally came back, my love was gone; my ardor had cooled. It happens. Sometimes a divorce is necessary for both parties to move on, ya' know?

Steph Curry is a Charlotte product - born, raised and schooled here. I've followed his career since Davidson, and became a Dubs fan as soon as he was drafted there. No Johnny-come-lately bandwagon fan, me. I dug the Dubs before they were cool.

Ben Simmons is putting on a show with his passing...wow that guy is a gifted passer...Markelle Fultz's shot looks better but he still looks mentally broken to me

So, I called up DTV the other day to try and negotiate a swap between NFL Sunday Ticket, which I got for free as a retention bonus because they seem to screw up my bill every month, and which I don't really care about since every game I want to see is already telecast on one of the broadcast networks, and NBA League Pass which I do want so that I can see all the Warriors games and other matchups that may interest me on a given night. But instead, they let me keep Sunday Ticket and are giving me 3 free months of something they call a "sports pack" which includes League Pass, Sunday Ticket, and some other stuff I don't give a crap about.

They also said that it will quietly expire at the end of the three months without automatically renewing (and billing me), a claim of which given its DTV, I am skeptical. In any event, I'll try and get them to give me the rest of the season free at that time as another retention bonus because I have no doubt they will screw up my bill a few more times between now and them. Because it's DTV. So... score! For now, at least.

how much does NBA League Pass normally cost compared to NFL Sunday Ticket?

Not sure, but it's considerably cheaper. I may have to find out in 3 months if I can't sweet-talk them into giving me the rest of the season as a "retention bonus".

But does watching a MLB game in 4k HDR make viewers less likely to fall asleep?

Basket-brawl last light in LA!

The NBA is evaluating a video shot courtside that appears to capture Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo spitting into the face of All-Star Chris Paul on Saturday night at Staples Center...that later developed into fisticuffs on the court between Rondo, Paul and Brandon Ingram...

looks like Rondo did indeed spit on Chris Paul...

https://twitter.com/Rachel__Nichols/...61847773556737

The NBA suspended Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Ingram (four games), teammate Rajon Rondo (three games) and Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul (two games)

Rondo should have gotten more then 3 games for spitting...

^^^That was a donnybrook. Saw more solid punches landed than in the last Mayweather bout. Usually, NBA fights are a joke of tilted-head posturing, a couple of shoves, and both guys get spit on like that because their faces are an inch apart and they're screaming at each other. But from that video, this doesn't look like that.

That said, it's not a traditional spitting motion either. It's sort of in-between. In any event, Paul & Rondo are two of the League's biggest hotheads and have apparently hated each other for years, so something like this was probably inevitable. The suspensions seem about right, although I'd have given Ingram a couple more games since he wasn't involved in the original fracas and just jumped in throwing haymakers.

it was an in-between spitting motion but it obviously a purposeful act...Rondo was just trying to hide it from the million cameras he knew were watching...deserved at least 5 games...if David Stern was still commish he would have gotten this right

Love how he threw serious shade on the N.O. GM Dell Demps - "He's a lousy general manager and he may lose Anthony Davis." Don't sugar-coat it like that Commish, tell us how you really feel.

I think the problem with the Rockets is more that they weakened their team defensively during the off-season by getting rid of two premiere perimeter defenders and adding a guy who can't defend anybody (Mello). Meaning, they can no longer stop you, so they have to outscore you to win. And if those 3 pointers aren't falling, they're toast. Just about everybody in the west, save Sacramento, took a step forward in the off-season. Houston took a step back.
