In the final hour of testing Hamilton forgot to load his sandbags and matched Vettel's time on the same tyre. Ferrari have packed up early due to a car problem, so will Mercedes end up faster after all? Maybe they could have, but a red flag killed the final 15 mins of the session.

The midfield looks to be be very close so hopefully there will be some good racing. Only Williams seems off the pace.

Two weeks until we find out what the real order is!

I doubt it but we'll see. Toto loves to play the underdog.

Small point AAFES=Army Air Force Exchange Service, if enlisted you probably took your oath at a MEPS or Military Entrance Processing Station and as a military firefighter I got the best/worst of both worlds you talk about.

I was wondering if it wouldn't be better for a team like Williams to update a previous years car and spend more time developing a new car to introduce later in the season.

Based on the performance of the last couple of years, would it really matter?

Just watched the Williams movie from 2017, which was shown on the BBC recently. Pretty good documentary, and emotional too. Worth a watch.

Yes!

This has just been added as a schedule change to Sky UK's F1 channel:
IndyCar Series Racing
Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Qualifying. 9th March at 19:30 GMT. [14:30 EST] - 90minutes
Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Race. 10th March at 16:30-20:30 GMT. [11:30-15:30 EST] - 4hours.

This is Florida is it? Same time zone as New York? GMT is 5hrs ahead. So I've added the EST times in brackets.
According to http://www.gpstpete.com/festival/schedule, Qualifying is 14:30 local time on Saturday, which matches.
and the Race is on Sunday at 13:40-16:30
But before that is "Driver Introductions" at 13:00. Is that going to be like the thing they did at Austin in 2017?

I think it may be live coverage, but it could miss the last hour of the race?

Not sure about the driver introductions. I haven't read anything about Indycar doing something with Buffer.

St. Pete is in Florida, which is the Eastern time zone. Next week is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. We will move our clocks forward one hour, which is GMT - 4 hours.

Mercedes Prepare to Jump Ship.

Here we go, Mercedes is getting ready to dominate Formula E as well!

https://www.engadget.com/2019/03/04/...la-e-race-car/

By 2025 F1 will be basically irrelevant, imo.
Well, it's pretty irrelevant now, unless your Lewis Hamilton and you wish to make use of this wonderful opportunity to write your name into the history books.
Soon we will be able to watch Mercedes winning all 4 championships in the one year.
Oh happy days..........happy days!!!

Is Mercedes electric cars technically the best cars on the road? I think Porsche will make it interesting not to mention the other manufacturers in the series.

The person I feel most bad for is Kubica. His time has probably passed regardless of the turmoil at Williams, but surely everyone wanted to see him do well. But with this car, it is just not in the cards.

If the new rear wings are designed to push the turbulence over the immediately trailing car does that mean the turbulence is instead going to hit the car two positions behind?

Williams is a curious team to me. On the one hand, Claire says the team can't survive in the current regs. On the other she believes they can compete for best of the rest. Which is it? Do you have the money to compete or are you about to go out of business?

In other news, both Indycar and FE are in action this weekend. I won't be watching the FE race live, as it is scheduled for 3 in the morning.

It is funny that a question in Miller's mailbag kind of tempered my excitement for the Indycar race.

Assuming Will Power, Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden for Penske; Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi for Andretti; Scott Dixon for Ganassi, all “contract drivers,” who are the next six most talented drivers today, regardless of contract or ride buying?

Lynn, VA

RM: Seabass, Rahal, Hinch, Rosenqvist, O’Ward and Herta. T.K. and Ed on ovals. And I still think Marco has plenty of talent, it just needs to manifest itself before he turns gray.
To me, I would only include Sebastian on that list. Rahal, Marco and Hinch are about average, although Rahal is better than the other two.

When I first started to really pay attention of F1 in the mid 80's, it was all McLaren and Williams. FF 30+ years, and who would have thought both teams would be also rans? From '84 to '98, only one other team won a WCC.

And in the late 90s, Williams was actually the winningist constructor.

Rahal > Hinch > Marco

If his last name wasn't Andretti, Marco would have been out of a ride years ago. He's mediocre at best.
