I forgot to mention the FE race. I missed the last ten minutes, but was really, really disappointed in the two stupid kinks. The one that caused the pile up was especially stupid. The funny thing is I see no reason for these kinks.

I will rewatch the race next week when it is on youtube. Right now, it is on the bottom of the four series I watch.

When it's Merc it was "A smart move" "Brilliant" blah blah blah. Where else can a guy finish second in F1 two years in a row and be apparently regarded as the absoulute worst driver to ever turn a wheel in a car.

Ferrari only hired him because he's warm and cuddly.

Not the "worst driver", just the biggest pressure bunny.
You must get your terminology right Tack, it's important in this day and age, especially in relation to the world's most prestigious, high quality and elite racing series!
And besides, he is right at home with Ferrari. The last decade has clearly shown that the whole team is nothing but a bunch of world class bottlers, especially since they cost Fernando a world title back in Abu Dhabi years ago.

The driver and the team are made for one another!

That year there were others who also "lost" the title. The year ended with less than 20 points separating the top four. Mistakes were made. Alonso maybe should have passed Petrov? Nah, Luca's fault. If Vettels engine didn't go boom in Korea, it wouldn't have even been close anyway.

But you can't really place a single event as a "reason" in F1. Everybody's luck always yoyos up and down. Probably the worst being GRO doubling as a heat seeking missle in Spa.

For comparison, UK TV viewers who watched the Game of Thrones live in the middle of the night here, simulcast with USA (not including same-day recordings, only live) - 200,000.

Kenny was a fantastic rider. Coming from a background of sliding around American dirt tracks, his riding style completely changed European road racing forever- in order to win, you had to start riding like Kenny.

Even today, Valentino Rossi's "Ranch", where he an others train and have fun, consists of dirt tracks. Lewis Hamilton has an open invitation.

I was fortunate to meet him and his son Kenny Jr (complete with newborn child) at Laguna Seca. Three days in the paddock does that. He doesn't hold back his thoughts! We were sitting at a table between FP talking racing and it was cool to listen to his stories. He's correct about America losing its way. The AMA in reality gives about two ____s about road racing and promoting it to the youth. Thank Kenny Roberts as not only Valentino Rossi did it, now Marc Marquez has a practice track to train in the dirt. We started the "knee down" at tracks, now the Europeans are learning something else from the American's once again!

When Rainey had to create a new series (MotoAmerica) because the AMA lost it, yeah American road racing has issues. And MotoAmerica is just a shadow of what road racing was before, couldn't even get on a mainstream TV channel (FS2) until this year and the Daytona 200 is not part of it. Less than 20 riders in the Superbike class and only a handful are competitive...

I felt bad for them at COTA. It's lost the appeal. I would always attend the AMA rounds when held at California Speedway! I would buy t shirts from vendors, and photograph the riders and fans that were interesting and in attendance.

Funny, Supercross still draws plenty of big crowds. BTW it's been a pretty good year so far. New faces, comebacks, hard racing.

Excellent analysis by Jolyon, again. I agree it was unbelievably harsh. And kudos to Formula 1 for allowing such an open discussion.

I agree with Jolyon. As I said it could have gone either way. Kvyat probably got the punishment because of his reputation.

Yes. And similar incidents as he showed, where blame was assigned, had either no penalty, a 5 second penalty or a 10 second penalty.

Didn't petrodollars play a part in Baku getting an F1 race in the first place?
I think they have some oil in that region????
So, why shouldn't oil get into the act in such a manner! Very logical, imo.
Almost karmic, wouldn't you say? Especially as Williams are only in F1 for the money now days, aren't they???
Maybe those sneaky Russians are trying to sabotage Williams so that they can swoop in and pick it up on the cheap!!!!!!

The BBC is at it again.
Seeing the writing is on the wall they have started posting info and pics from the Paris E-Prix whilst they are in the middle of covering qualifying at Baku!!
Trying to coax the little grommets to migrate over to Formula E as F1 sinks like a lump of slag from an ironworks into the murky depths of the inevitable demise of ICE racing.
But wait................the Torpedo made it into Q3.................amazing................he let others crash into the wall but somehow managed to avoid that fate himself.

Will he make it to the end tomorrow???
Will we all be as brain dead as Lurch by the time that F1 splutters to a close?? Or will Mercedes beat us into submission whilst the wheels are still turning in the F1 circus?
