Indycar did not give us much action up front other than the first lap, but some great racing in the rest of the field.

Herta’s team really botched the tire strategy. They got pole, but everything went pear shaped once the green flag fell. The blown fueling situation was just a bonus. The kid is fun to watch.

Driver of the day has to be Dixon to come back from DFL to 5th.

Double penalty drops Renault F1's Ricciardo out of French GP points

“I care, but I don’t care,” Ricciardo told Sky Sports F1 when asked if a penalty was on its way.

“I’m just glad I tried and had a crack. I was certainly trying to pull it off and keep [the car] all on there.

How to take it like a man and not a whinging, little femboy like a certain other individual who does not need to be named.

Even though the fight between McLaren and Renault was interesting (or at least Danny boy's contribution was interesting) they were still all almost lapped by Mercedes!! (Sainz just escaped).

The fact that he was getting lapped is why it was so easy to take it like a man. Had he been fighting for a win I doubt he'd been so graceful.

A win? Fighting for a win??!!
What's that? Whats that mean?

This is F1 007, only Mercedes wins in F1, you know that.
Scrapping for leftovers is the best he can hope for so in his position it is just as important as trying to win.
Seventh could have been his best points finish all season, a true highlight for the year, an elite position for the also-rans!
When your being lapped seventh is great!!

Wake up 007, this 2019. It was so long ago that anyone beat Mercedes that no one can remember!

The Indy race was not all that exciting either Sunday. But by far better than the French GP. Lord that track with all the blue lines was hard to look at. Road America is such a great track' Rossi was quite impressive.

I was out of town this weekend. One the drive back yesterday, I cranked up F1 TV and started watching the race. After about six laps, I was out. I slept like a baby. When I got home about 10 last night, I finished off the race. Asleep in no time.

Just finished the Indycar race, all I can say is that was fun. Yes, as gibson and bg said the race at the front wasn't there. Everywhere else it was fun. Rossi checked out and was dominating. He deserved the victory. Back in the field, there was exciting racing. More important is that they can race. Newgarden still leads the championship, but Rossi closed and it looks to be a two horse race.

Also, the contrast between RA and France was dramatic. I have heard complaints about the Vegas races, but Paul Ricard can't be any better scenery wise. Dieter wrote in his paddock diary how bad the circuit is. Maybe F1 should keep Spain and dump France.

I wasn't going to confess what follows until I saw your post but will do so now. Although I didn't fall asleep on the French GP race itself, crashing bore though it was, I did sleep through the last two thirds of qualifying on Saturday. F1 has become about as entertaining as a bad habit.

I intentionally missed the French GP. First intentional miss since I started following F1. I don’t feel like I missed anything. I think going forward, I’ll only watch the tracks I like: A1 Ring, Spa, Monza, Singapore, Suzuka, maybe Mexico and US.

After giving it some thought, I think it is more like Xmas when you were a kid. You are eagerly hoping to get that shiny new toy. The build up is awesome. The anticipation is mouth watering. When you finally unwrap the present and behold a lump of coal, you are heart broken. A year later you do it all over again.

Euro races start at 7:10 AM here. I'll still watch them all, but now instead of getting up at the butt crack of dawn, grabbing a shower and eating breakfast during the pre-race (and watching some of it), I'll get up at 7, sit down watch the opening few laps. Eat, browse the interwebs etc during the race. If Brundle gets excited I'll pay attention. Also, I didn't bother with qualy, was gonna watch it Saturday afternoon but got spoiled. My main thought was, Merc 1-2, just saved myself an hour. Its really getting desperately bad, and reports are the changes for 2021 may not be anywhere near drastic enough.

It was funny when he hit the pit wall.

That being said both he and the team should receive a pretty big penalty/fine.

Hard to disagree with a lot of this.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/48744272

I honestly don't see anything changing unless Liberty blows the whole thing up. No way the big dogs are going to accept a technical rules update or a significant financial redistribution plan that reduces their advantages over the lesser teams. Bernie and Todt wanted the manufactures $$$$. Well, they have it, and along with it they have a series where a few of the biggest inmates run the asylum.

That's a key question, for which we don't have an answer right now. I'm bothered by the latest postponement despite people saying this is actually a good thing because it shows all the F1 teams are working to the common good. This may be a cynical view but I find that hard to believe given the teams' money-driven self-interest. F1 is trying too hard to please everyone. Now is the time for the FIA and Liberty Media to say: 'Right, guys, we've studied all the feedback and research. These are the rules. Sign here if you want to be a part of it.'
What would the teams do if they were given an ultimatum? Outside of the manufacturers, F1 could survive without the other seven teams.

I agree completely with the quote from Maurice.

And what would happen if faced with an ultimatum? The big teams would again threaten to walk and create their own series. But last time that happened, one team decided to break ranks, and as a result got a nice fat yearly tribute for doing so. The remaining teams felt that a breakaway would fail without a couple red cars, so they capitulated.

It is getting close to the point where we get to see just how big a set of stones Liberty really has, but they may soon find out that they did not get what they thought they bought.

It is pretty telling when the series' biggest star realizes that the sport is in trouble, and comments about it publicly.

The top three winners of the prior race should have to start on rains if the next race is dry or on slicks if the next race is wet and are required to do 5 laps on them before changing.

KW: For as long as I've been travelling with F1, fans have found reason to complain. It started with Red Bull winning everything, now Mercedes are winning everything, and in the middle we've had DRS, Pirelli rubber, and the hybrid power units all blamed for ruining F1 forever. F1 will always be dull occasionally, and F1 fans will always find something to moan about. Fact.

Ugh, there are still people holding unto that attitude. Dull occasionally would be perfectly fine, every single sport under the sun (or a roof) is. Its now become very rare for F1 to NOT be dull.
