Survivor 38 Edge of Extinction on CBS HD

Survivor 38 Edge of Extinction 02/20/2019 CBS HD 8 p.m. ET

It was filmed in Fiji, which is Survivor’s permanent-for-now home ..

Survivor Edge of Extinction :: features four returning contestants and a controversial twist .. Every player voted out of the game will have the option of going to Extinction Island, where they’ll wait for two chances to get back in the game, at the merge and at the end .. Anyone can leave Extinction Island whenever they want, but they can also stay for the length of the entire game, doing nothing except waiting .. that means every single Survivor contestant might still be on the show on day 39 ..

There will be four players returning for Survivor 38: Edge of Extinction:

Joe Anglim, who was previously on both Survivor Worlds Apart and Survivor Second Chance

Aubry Bracco, who competed on Survivor Kaoh Rong and Survivor Game Changers

Kelley Wentworth, who was on both Survivor San Juan Del Sur and Survivor Second Chance

David Wright, who appeared on just one season, Survivor Millennials vs. Gen X

A few off-topic posts deleted now that the show is airing. No harm, no foul. Just tidying things up.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

I'm not exactly a SuperFan, but wife and I have watched every episode of every Survivor. One hour was simply not enough to introduce this season and cast. Reading Dalton Ross' recap one learns how much was left on the cutting room floor. The inclusion of previous players has worn out its welcome with us. I'm afraid Edge of Extinction is going to be vastly inferior to David vs. Goliath, which was excellent. And we listened to Jeff's explanation of the Extinction twist 3 times and still said "Huh?".

What do you guys thing the edge of extinction twist will be? Will they have to do challenges? Will they just have to survive on their own with no supplies?

"Mom" earned the Vote Out .. at Tribal, her true colors came out and it was not pretty .. myself, I would have voted out Tourette's girl .. she's a snake, a flipper and a flake ..

The first episode really should have been two hours in order to flesh things out a bit better .. after commercial time, we did not get much of a show ..

Wentworth still looks good ..

I don't know if there is a whole lot of intel out there on Extinction Island .. but the name probably means something like "where Vote Outs go to become extinct" ..

All I know is the statement CBS issued :: "a twist called Extinction Island, which will test castaways in an "emotionally and physically difficult" challenge. Those who withstand the test will be given a shot to get back in the game" .. that would seem to indicate some really tough challenge including maybe little food, etc .. my understanding is, at the end of it all, 2 Players from Extinction Island could re-enter the Game, if two can make it through ..

I'm still watching and enjoying this show.......

I like the idea of 'edge of extinction' on a island with out much,
waiting for what ? More people to show up ? will they bring
challenges ? supplies ? news ?

I'm not saying who I like /dislike though, since everytime I start to
pull for one person or another they seem to get voted out soon
after ! ha........

I still love Survivor, and would welcome a return to early Survivor.

No swaps.

No hidden Idols.

No advantages.

But don't tell the players. Make them figure it out themselves.

If they do that, a truly tight, old style alliance could work.

Still no clue about this edge of extinction island. What is the purpose? I guess they needed more people to be there before it started? Would anyone NOT want to go there and try again after doing so much just to be on the show?

I don't think we have seen the full effect of Extinction Island yet. Not a fan of the redemption/extinction angle. I feel it takes away from coverage of regular game play.

It may possibly be that "part" of the extinction angle the producers were (are) hoping for, is for a bunch of the extinction players to tap out/raise that flag .... being how sparse it is, and they have to climb Mt Rushmore daily for some rice .... Possibly leaving just a couple to "battle it out" at the re-insertion point ...
It might be interesting if, at some future point, ALL voted out secretly exiled players surprise re-enter the game as a 4th, 3rd or 2nd tribe ( after the regulars recombine) ... I could hear Probst " Blue team c'mon in", "Red Team, c'mon in", then.. "Green Team, .. c'mon in" ( gasps from the regulars) ..... Then a series of double team elimination immunity challenges back-to-back gets the numbers in line ...

There is something about this show that I just enjoy. Even after all these years/seasons, it is still enjoyable to watch and I still look forward to it every week.

I wonder if they got the idea from Top Chef Last Chance Kitchen. Maybe once they get a certain number, they have to compete and the loser goes home until, eventually, one or two are left and they rejoin the main tribe.

As for the rice, they should take turns going up to get it. There’s no need for all of them to go up for a small bag. Maybe when they go up there, there might be a hidden surprise.

Yeah, the Game has changed over the years .. I would not mind them going back to the Old Ways for a season or two .. although, I understand what the Producers must feel is the need to do some fresh .. I just hope it never devolves to "Survivor :: Big Brother" ..

Like others, I'll stick with it .. I also like "Amazing Race" .. that and "Survivor" are the only two Reality style TV shows I watch .. well, OK, I watched a few "Naked and Afraid" .. maybe a little "Hell's Kitchen" ..

Big fan here too, every season from season one. I too would like a season or two like the early days. Maybe call it.....*Survivor, Old School*. Also, the day it devolves to S BB, is the day I am out. I did like BB the first couple seasons, until it turned into a T and A show.

Totally get that, and agree. Maybe I can better clarify my stance as it turned into a show better suited for MTV than CBS. But, that is what the kids want nowadays. I think it is trash. Survivor has its share of "jiggles", but I never think that the show feels MTVish. Hopefully that makes sense. Oh, and thanks for my 100th "like".

Maybe I missed it in the directions about the steps but wouldn't it be advantageous to move camp such as it is closer to the top of the hill so they don't have to climb that long path everyday?

Maybe Wendy should have watched the episode in a previous season where a gal dumped the rice. IIRC things did not work out well for her.

Posts kinda follow the show it seems...it was meh last week with nothing outstanding happening and same with this week. Wendy ain't no Russell, and eye candy is relative Often I do FF when watching what I recorded the last few seasons. The drama worked out is always the same strategy just the names and dates have changed...sought of like watching a movie like the Matrix, 13th Floor or Inception...once you know the plot and eventual outcome, its more the action of challenges and drama at tribal with potential blindsides that are most of what is worth watching...including searching for and finding hidden idols...not much excitement there anymore...except when it is the person we don't want to find it or the one we want to find it never does and we have seen those scenarios often too. I find myself bored with the camp banter even though it is a big part of the show timewise. And with Naked and Afraid, one is more the real deal and intriguing, watching actual survival compared to drama survival.

What I don't get is, do they really think anyone voted out will come to the "you have a decision to make" sign and choose to quit?
