Al Pacino Poised to Star as Nazi Hunter in Amazon TV Series From Jordan Peele
By Ryan Schwartz, TVLine.com - Jan. 10, 2019

Al Pacino is the latest film actor set to make the leap to #PeakTV . The Academy Award winner is poised to star opposite Logan Lerman (Jack & Bobby) in Amazon’s The Hunt, a 10-episode drama from executive producer Jordan Peele, Deadline reports.

The Hunt takes place in 1977 New York City, and follows a “diverse band of Nazi hunters” who discover that “hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among us and conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S.” Pacino has been tapped to play mentor to Lerman’s Jonah Heidelbaum, who sets out to find his grandmother’s murderer and soon finds himself swept up in the Nazi-hunting organization.

Pacino is no stranger to the small screen, having previously starred in HBO biopics Paterno (about disgraced Penn State football coach Joe Paterno), Phil Spector (about the titular music producer convicted of murder) and You Don’t Know Jack (about euthanasia proponent Jack Kevorkian), for which he won his second Emmy award. His first came for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in the HBO miniseries Angels In America.

Amazon has not yet announced a timetable for The Hunt‘s release.

Josh Radnor Joins Jordan Peele's Nazi Drama The Hunt at Amazon
By Kimberly Roots, TVLine.com - Mar. 1, 2019

Nazis, beware: The Artist Formerly Known as Ted Mosby is on The Hunt.

How I Met Your Mother alum Josh Radnor has been cast in the upcoming Amazon drama, our sister site Deadline reports.

The Hunt takes place in 1977 New York City, and follows a “diverse band of Nazi hunters” who discover that “hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among us and conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S.” Al Pacino will play the play mentor to Jonah Heidelbaum (Jack & Bobby‘s Logan Lerman), who sets out to track down his grandmother’s murderer and soon finds himself swept up in the Nazi-hunting organization.

Radnor’s character, named Lonny Flash, is a movie star who is a covert member of the group. The series also stars Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy) as FBI agent Millie Malone

Radnor’s other TV credits include Rise, Mercy Street and Six Feet Under. He also recently appeared on Grey’s Anatomy as John, whose blind date with Meredith went swimmingly… until he made a disparaging comment about single mothers looking for love.

The 10-episode Hunt is executive-produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out). Amazon has not yet announced a premiere date.

‘Hunters’ Amazon Al Pacino Series “A Love Letter To My Grandmother” Says Creator – TCA

When it comes to creator/EP David Weil’s new Amazon series Hunters, it all goes back to grandma.

“My grandmother was a Holocaust survivor and she told me about her experiences during the war,” said Weil, “Hearing this felt like the stuff of comics books and superheros.”

Starring Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, Hunters follows a diverse band of Nazi hunters living in 1977 New York City. The Hunters, as they’re known, have discovered that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among us and conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the U.S. The eclectic team of Hunters will set out on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans.

Weil had created the project five years ago and in breaking story, he thought “what was my birth right to continue (my grandmother’s) story? There are so many survivors who are not with us. The community has grown smaller and it was a love letter to my grandmother.”

It was Weil’s opportunity “to don a cape” and battle “xenophobia, hidden crimes and truths. It was wish fulfillment for a Jewish kid growing up in Long Island,” added the creator who was also inspired by William Shakespeare’s Shylock character in The Merchant of Venice is crafting Pacino’s Nazi hunter in the series.

Similar to Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, the concept of Hunters is spurred by the idea that Nazi war criminals were hiding and infiltrating themselves in America. In the case of City of Angels, it’s a year before WWII, and with Hunters it’s during the 1970s.

In the wake of recent hate crimes in the New York city metro area, Weil also thinks that Hunters will have a further resonance. “This is a show about vigilantes who reclaim their power and asks the question ‘If you hunt monters, do you risk of becoming a monster yourself? It’s at timely idea we should be asking ourselves in this day and age,” added Weil.

The trailer for Hunters has amassed over 37M views to date. Hunters is coming to Prime on Feb. 21.

I can't really tell if this is supposed to be a straight drama or a black comedy. This latest trailer seems to lean toward the latter and it reminds me a lot of "Preacher".

‘Hunters’ Will Turn A Bit Of Highland Park Into 1970s New York For Amazon Prime Video Series Promotion

Highland Park will be turned into a bit of 1970s New York next week, as Amazon Prime Video transforms a section of that northeast Los Angeles neighborhood into a promotion for its new Hunters series.

In the series, which bows Feb. 21 on Amazon Prime, Nazi hunters discover hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials in 1977 New York City. Their plan is to create a Fourth Reich in the US. The Hunters say nuh-uh and set out to thwart their new genocidal plans. The series stars Al Pacino and Logan Lerman and is executive produced by Academy Award-winner Jordan Peele (Get Out).

The series was created by David Weil and also stars Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker and Lena Olin. Hunters, produced by Amazon Studios, Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment, is executive produced by Weil, who serves as co-showrunner alongside executive producer Nikki Toscano. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directed the pilot and is an executive producer alongside Win Rosenfeld from Monkeypaw Productions; Nelson McCormick; David Ellender from Sonar Entertainment.

For the promotion, Amazon will turn a location between Avenues 56 and 57 on Figueroa Street in Highland Park into 1970s New York, using what they tout as authentic, era specific details from the series. The activation will take place from February 19-22. The Hunters’ Grindhouse Experience will invite guests to participate in the world of the series with an immersive event that will bring its audience back in time.

The key to the event is transforming Highland Theatre into “The Empire,” Prime Video’s own grindhouse theaterwith nods to New York’s 42nd Street. Those who partake will get a special sneak preview of the first episode. Attendees will then be escorted across the street to “Hunters Alley,” better known as hipster haven Highland Park Bowl. Guests will then participate in an after-party set in 1977 that promises surprising Easter eggs and plot points from the show.

The activation will be free and open to the public from Feb. 20-22. Public tickets are available here.

that's one of the things I noticed as well...the tone of the series was not clear...the trailers also didn't blow me away...the only reason I kept an eye on this was because of Al Pacino...but apparently even he can't save this as most of the reviews I've seen are bad...I think I'll skip this or at the very least keep it on the backburner

I'm not sure what to think of the 90-minute first episode, which started a little slow and then picked up toward the end. I was hoping for more of a dark comedy, but based on just this one episode, I'm not sure how much humor I'm supposed to be finding in Holocaust survivors being murdered 30+ years after World War II and in accounts of their backstories. So far, it's an odd and uncomfortable blending of quirky oddball touches and truly depressing real-life historical tragedy.

I'll stick with it anyway, at least episode to episode. It's currently 67% on Rotten Tomatoes (critics and users). The first episode was basically setting up the premise, focusing on the main young protagonist and making the villains villainous. The characters of the other Hunters weren't developed at all and we didn't see them doing their thing yet.

Preacher was one of a kind. Lol. I still chuckle and cringe at some of those scenes. This doesn't seem like a must watch show. Maybe when there's a lull in the action I'll give it a go... or not.

I watched the 90-minute premiere episode yesterday and found it disturbing and involving enough to continue. As someone who watches a fair amount of network TV, this is NOT homogenized drama. It's pretty graphic and powerful. I don't binge, so I'll watch one episode a day until I finish the ten episodes.
