When BK got to under 4 for the day, I thought he was going to get it done but it was not meant to be. I would have loved to seen how Gary Woodland responded to more pressure but congrats to Woodland on a solid finish and a 1st major victory!

That’s golfing your ball! We have a new guy in the top tier of golf. Gary Woodland has been the big hitter on tour for years, but no one ever took him seriously before this week. Now, he has shown he has learned how to play the game between his ears and acquired the skills around the greens to really compete. A late bloomer who gave us a show. I hope he can grow from there. He hit numerous memorable shots, but that chip on 17 will join the shots of Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus on that same green in the past in my mind. Masterful under severe pressure.

Marvel couldn't top it. Two sluggers toe-to-toe.

Pebble was magnificent, with only a breeze for four rounds.

Congrats to Gary Woodland for beating his demons/nerves. The close-up on Sunday's 1st tee said it all. Well done. 14 approach, 17 chip, WOW.

What more can one say about Koepka? 2nd, 1st, 2nd, with another left.

Pebble 69-69-68-68, and loses by 3. Shortcomings/nitpicks would probably point to him playing the par 5s in 3-under for the week. Or, playing Saturday and Sunday backnines 1-under.

Good TV coverage by FOX and ESPN. Camera work was exceptional.

On to Portrush!

Fox has greatly improved their broadcast from that first year. Is this the only golf tournament they do? NBC & CBS have all the weekly events and ABC/ESPN has the British...

My boy Oostie couldn't keep it going after a hot start. I've still got him in the Open Championship, though! Because he's badass in an oostie kinda' way. You know it's true.

I have quibbles with the Fox coverage. I am spoiled with better graphics on tee shots with ball speed, etc. I also found some of the camera shots lacking, such as the far away wide shot of Woodland’s 17th hole chip from the putting surface. They did come back and run better shots later after it was all over, but...

The commentary was merely passable. Still, the drama could not be ruined by substandard coverage. Pebble is a star. The USGA finally got it right. Kudos.

FOX/FS1 broadcast several USGA events.

NBC/GOLF broadcasts the British now. The only live men's golf on ESPN now is the Masters par 3 and first two rounds.

Just read a couple of comments over in the NFL thread and you should stay over there your better there.

When it comes to golf you and a couple others here haven't a clue.

Tiger a quitter? That should be golf 101. He gives it everything he has and does.

Brooks no way at The Open so 10 months till the Masters is a eternity and what can happen.

I was right he didn't win yesterday.

These are just my opinions.

I thought Fox had an outstanding presentation of the tournament. The camera coverage of the golf ball in flight was great. Drones showed parts of Pebble Beach I had never seen before. It will be tough going back to CBS coverage next year.

Fox's 720p telecast has detail limitations in live sports inherent with the format, especially with golf where so many shots are longer distances. CBS & NBC's 1080i coverage will always be clearer and sharper. That said, they do deserve credit for some of their technological innovations.

If you didn't have to toot your horn yesterday it would have impressed me but quote yourself? Weak.

Look at Spieth misses a couple putts then it creeps into every facet of his game.

All the greats have troubles look a Johnny Miller "Yips".

Brooks will have bumps in the road start missing 2 footers next thing he'll be playing Army golf like "The Hack".

These are just my opinions.

lol...'no way at the [British] Open'...same way you said no way at Pebble Beach because 'He's only played once there and didn't make the cut'...lol...Koepka was within one shot of the lead with a few holes left on Sunday...he'll be contending at most of the majors for the foreseeable future...could he turn into David Duval?...sure but right now he's the best thing going on any course...it doesn't matter how poor he plays on any given course because he gets himself ready for the majors...

I'm going to keep posting all of your quotes about Brooks every major tournament...

I enjoyed the Open for two reasons. No.1 - it's the Open and No. 2 - In my younger days I lived six years in Carmel, so I enjoy seeing the magnificent views again whether it's an Open or the annual February Clambake Pro-Am.

Actually NBC and Golf Channel have The Open Championship now.
On June 8, 2015, it was announced that NBC and Golf Channel had acquired rights to The Open Championship under a 12-year deal, replacing ESPN.

Yes, you are both right. Mea culpa. I guess whenever I see Mike Tirico I still think ESPN/ABC. He was there for so many years, the ultimate play-by-play utility guy (along with Al Michaels) who excels at calling every sport known to man, I just can't get used to the idea he defected.

Sour grapes? I said Koepka wouldn't win and I was right.

Here's my challenge for Titus:

Brooks is the overwhelming favorite at Portrush because it's his caddie's home course, and played there 1000 times.

Calling Brooks a flash in the pan is a little harsh but I did say after the PGA he wouldn't win another major ever.

Here's the bet:

If Brooks wins "the Open" I won't post here (AVS forum) again till Tiger wins a major.

If Brooks loses you can't post till Brooks wins a major again. Yes I know that would much harder for you then me.

Sound like a bet Titus?

These are just my opinions.

that's the most ridiculously shady bet ever...that's like saying toss a coin and heads you win, tails I lose...what you should have said is if Tiger wins then I won't post here and if Brooks wins you won't post...you have to choose your winner and not play the odds and hedge your bets based on Brooks winning/losing...of course Brooks is not going to win every single major...even Tiger and Jack in his prime didn't do that

and as I told you before, it doesn't matter how well or poorly one has played a golf course...in a major all bets are off...Tiger dominated Pebble Beach in 2000 and look what happened in 2019...at least you got the courage to finally admit that you calling Brooks a 'flash in the pan' was ludicrous...I accept your apology

Okay let's sweeten the pot for you Titus.

It's been ABT for you (anybody but Tiger) you've gone through the gambit Rory, Spieth, DJ etc till Brooks started winning and I'm sure he wasn't on your radar.

I've followed him on the golf channel through his European circuit. His buddy Peter Uihlien I thought had a better chance then your hero Brooks.

Here's a new bet:

Brooks won't be in the top three at Portrush. How could you not take that?

But you can never come back here and I can't come here if he does finish's top three.

These are just my opinions.

Petey had lots of quotes. He was a writer, after all.

Quote:
But everything's dead, isn't it? I realized that one Sunday, lying near the endline with my right foot twisted backward and flopping uselessly, the broken bones poking through the skin. I watched my sock staining red and understood that success comes by accident, and that the same process brings failure. Success is only a matter of opinion. Failure is a cold hard fact.

you're the one that said Brooks would never win another major...so the bet should be if Brooks ever wins another major then you never post again...or if you don't stand behind that post, you should bet that Tiger will win the British Open...you'll never do it because most of the things you post you don't really believe...you're the Skip Bayless of AVS...I honestly don't mind your posts so it's not even about that aspect...you're already starting to backtrack from your earlier comments about Brooks being a 'flash in the pan' etc...
