Aaaaand, in the tone-deaf world of the entitled and the privileged, we have this. I doubt I'll look at Matt Kuchar or his pepsodent smile the same way again. But hey -- a deal's a deal, amiright?

Did Kooch’s caddy help in the win or was he just carrying the bag? This was not his regular walk.

Who knew this side existed? Clearly penny-pinching.

It could've been handled better, maybe something like, "We both exceeded expectations. I think our agreed upon should be off the table. What would you be comfortable with?" Then give him what he suggested, or negotiate. In this one-off instance, I think up to $50K would've been reasonable.

Opinions are like _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ , everybody's got one.

But not because he suddenly got an attack of human decency. It's because he got an avalanche of bad press from everyone from sports columnists to some of his fellow pros. His agent and manager probably told him if he didn't step up and pay the guy, he was going to lose all his endorsements. It was clear from his initial comments that he just does't "get it", and didn't see anything wrong with stiffing a powerless hispanic guy.

Yet Kuchar still won, without his regular guy. So how important is a caddie, really? They're glorified valets. (I know this because I've actually done it.) But there is still an accepted pay scale, and Kuchar violated it by orders of magnitude. Even the $50k he finally agreed to (after pressure from his agent, manager and sponsors) was less than half of what he would have paid his regular looper for winning that tournament.

How many PGA Tour pro golfers pay their caddies

A base salary ($1,000-$2,000 per week on the PGA Tour to cover some travel expenses)
5 percent of earnings when the pro finishes outside the top 10
7 percent of earnings when the pro finishes in the top 10
10 percent of earnings when the pro wins

Caddied in High School at a country club once doubled bagged one guy gave me 10 bucks the other paid me 2.50 I looked at the guy and he reached in his pocket and gave me another quarter, I gave it back and told him he needed it worse than me.

These are just my opinions.

This is just one story on the PGA Tour. There will be more, and I'm thankful for that. The PGA Tour has been "in-the-closet" for far too long with respect to dealing with controversy. A hard thing to do sometimes when its entertainers are deemed independent contractors.

Joel Beall for Golfworld, January 14, 2019 (when the Kuchar story was building), rightfully points the finger at social media for frequently calling the Tour and its players out. Not a bad thing, I suggest, when it can eventually spur an on-air conversation like the one yesterday with CBS Golf's Faldo & Nantz.

Better pad your DVR for the Genesis. The leaders didn't start the final round until 3, so I also set the DVR to record the Golf Channel in case CBS bails.

Justin Thomas is Mr. Shank on tour.

His hosel rockets are becoming notorious.

Said hasn't seen one in awhile? Define awhile.

But when you can go a 190 holes without a 3-putt (yesterday first 3-putt) and get those shanks up and down for par who cares about being a hack.

This guy could make par if the ball was in the ball washer.

https://www.pga.com/news/pga-tour/20...hunks-and-yips

BTW: Jordan Spieth is turning into a hack.

These are just my opinions.

Wow, that was close. The change-over from CBS to the Golf Channel was almost seamless. But I didn't pad the GC coverage, so when the matched ended I had 1 minute remaining on my timer. Had there been a playoff I would have missed it.

Watching these guys keep their cool when bad things happens is intriguing. Bad things happened to all the leaders with regularity to the extent had it been me there would have been helecoptering putters on every other hole. Too bad Sergio was not in the mix.

Brian Barnes (European Tour) tried to force the shorts issue in the 1980's but was unsuccessful. ET relented for practice rounds in 2016.

Always good to see the pros struggle. Gee on some of these holes they didnt have the usual drive and a wedge. Quite a finish.

So what is this now we have to subscribe and pay more money for NBC Gold, in addition to what we’re already paying for satellite/cable, in order to watch the early rounds of golf now? Has anyone subscribed to this yet?

Not me.

I can go to a local driving range and watch golfers hit hosel rockets for free.

BTW: Rory would have won running away last week for not his three putts and 6 in first round.

But three putts do indicate you need to hit it closer, but with Justin Thomas could be 100's of feet away with no three putts.

Pay to watch hackers? Not me.

These are just my opinions.

2019 has not been kind to Tiger so far...I've said it before, Tiger's going to kick himself for not winning at least 1 major in 2018...he had the perfect storm- he was relatively healthy, most of the other top ranked players were having miserable years and he had some momentum...to get all that again in 2019 is going to be a tall order

With his 40s aging, The Masters with no rough and limited field is probably his best hope.

I read that Michleson had mysteriously gained 5-6 mph of clubhead speed with his driver the last few months, and watching him at Pebble Beach, I noted some drives were registering ball speed over 180. This seems remarkable, especially for a guy closing in on 50 years of age. I have not seen any account of how this is possible. Any ideas?
