There was just no coherent narrative structure there. Waaaay too much was left out. Characters came & went with seemingly no rhyme or reason, defying all the laws of probability. We had no idea what was happening in the rest of the world beyond that tiny corner of England. The special effects were nothing special. And the ending was... awful.

Sorry man. I wanted to like it. Just couldn't.
Nooooooooo!! I was looking forward to this!

^ yeah Arch, I was very disappointed by the ending (episode 3) of the BBC mini-series. After reading about it, it seems like it was tinkered with by too many hands and the result was less than perfect

The French series that just got a second season renewal was decent enough to keep me watching through 8 episodes and wanting more.

Given they were using American actors, they couldn't have been speaking French. Was it subtitled or dubbed?

I haven't gotten around to that one yet. Got them all stored on the DVR, waiting on a break in the schedule. So much content, so little time. The Age of Peak TV has given way to the Age of Too Much Good TV.

War of the Worlds- EPIX- official trailer

**people are confusing this with the 2019 BBC version which was 3 episodes long...this series on EPIX is 8 episodes and premieres Sunday, February 16th...

this already aired overseas and reviews are pretty average...apparently it's better then the BBC version but neither are all that amazing...

Not signed up for Epix with Comcast & certainly not going to pay Comcast even more. But thought I might pay to stream this version of WOTW from Prime or Netflix. IF it's any good Hoping some of you who plan to watch have something good to say!

Watched the first episode last night. It was pretty good and it had an insane, tension building music score.

The first episode was free to view. I think I'll wait until there are only 4 eps left and then sign up for a month of service($5.99) and watch them all. The 2.40:1 aspect ratio was nice to see.

The show was supposedly broadcast in 4K SDR on the Epix streaming app but if it was I couldn't tell. It looked like a typical 1080 SDR image to me.

Went through the first three....there's definitely some standard dumb/trope garbage writing (why can't anyone write realistic Apocalypse drama with children) but I sort of like it...will try to finish out the eight episodes.

It does really annoy me when seemingly smart people do some really dumb, dumb s**t to keep the plot momentum up - ala GOT S07/08

Geez, I'm not sure how much longer I want to stick with this one. It's gotten so brutal and outright depressing. Last night's episode got tough to watch.

Oh, you’re a ‘lucky’ customer. Here on the West Coast the big (triple?) package has dropped STARZ and added EPIX so now, after an hour of downloading and installing, uninstalling and reinstalling apps I did manage to watch the next two episodes in 4k HDR on my Apple TV — you can only ‘cast’ SD from the mobile app.
Actually much better than the compressed 720p sent to my TiVo.

Overall I’ve enjoyed the show and the producers are much closer to what they talked about in the featurette after that first episode, where they noted it was more about how the characters (the humans) interacted in such a situation.

Wait until you see the final scenes of Ep.5, there's one of the most brutal images I've ever seen in any TV show or film.

Thanks but that may be enough not to continue. Sometimes stylized images are better than sledgehammers.

I managed to watch the first 3 episodes of the 8 episode series last night. My wife and I are enjoying it. I found that Dish network is showing the first three for free and recorded them. I'll probably get Epix for a month or 2 to finish the series.

So it was a "tease" on Amazon. To watch episodes 4 and on requires an EPIX subscription. I'm on the fence about that as it's only $6 a month and there are other shows on EPIX I want to watch such as the "Berlin Station" series.

If you download the Epix app from the play store or app store you can watch any Epix show for free. Then you can cast it to your TV or use the Epix Cast to watch on certain TV's even if they don't have chromcast.

Is 4K available from the standalone EPIX NOW app? If yes, what hardware streaming device/configuration?

I have EPIX subscription through Prime Video and like the integration of shows I am watching inside the Fire TV UI, but sadly there is no 4K offering on any shows or movies that I have browsed through. Would enjoy 4K versions of War of the Worlds, Get Shorty, Berlin Station, Deep State and Pennyworth.

Really is becoming a bit frustrating when all of these premium video (4K, HDR. DV) and premium audio (ATMOS) offerings from streaming providers are all contingent on a specific subscription path or specific hardware manufacturer configuration.

If you are in no rush, wait a bit and Prime Video or EPIX on their own will offer a discount on a subscription in the near future. I am currently on a $2.99 a month for 3 month subscription of EPIX through Prime Channels. They seem to run an offer like this about once a quarter for a limited time sign up window.

Episode 4 did not have a gruesome/brutal image reveal, but it sure had a gruesome/gut punching story line reveal. I'm still wondering why that need to be in this story. Perhaps it will be part of a following story line. But, man that was brutal to watch as well.
