Somebody correct me if wrong, but pretty sure the Pats have a relative ton of early draft picks this year and next.

I can't stand those guys who used to (still do?) get together to celebrate when an undefeated team loses, thus preserving their '72 undefeated season streak.

But as far as I'm concerned, any of the several teams who reached 13-0 or better in the regular season before losing their first game has already surpassed that '72 Miami season regular season record of 12-0.

Then, if any of those teams went on to win all of their post season games too, after reaching at least 12-0 in the regular season, they too have either equaled or surpassed Miami's 14-0 post-season inclusive record.

By my count, there have been two of those teams. '85 Bears (12-0 start, 15-1 regular season, 18-1 including undefeated post season) and the '98 Broncos 13-0 start, 14-2 regular season, 17-2 including undefeated post season), both Super Bowl winners in those respective years.

How did your count miss the 2015 Panthers, who got to 15-0 before stumbling in the last regular season game, and then getting to the Super Bowl? Yeah, I know they didn't win the big one, but their accomplishments that season were still pretty impressive, and they won more games than the '72 'Fins.

.... Right. From a regular season undefeated streak standpoint, they simply blew away the '72 Dolphins as far as I'm concerned (15-0 vs 12-0).

But the fact that they lost in the Super Bowl lessens the persuasiveness of the argument by a little. Miami can still claim an undefeated post-season record, where the Panthers cannot.

His math only includes winners of the SB. Otherwise the Pats and a bunch of other teams would be on there.

My only problem with it is that the Dolphins didn't get to pick how many games they played.

True. We'll never know if they would have been good enough to still be undefeated in the 14 game schedule era and now the current 16 game schedule era.

So all we can do is go by what we know. And what we know is that several teams over the years have surpassed their undefeated regular season lossless streak.

Based upon the first 12 games of a season, yes they have (as I described in my post #63 )
Based upon a 14 or 16 game season, neither has Miami (completed the deal).

At best or worst, it's a draw. So no need for '72 ex-Dolphins to gather in celebration.

i wouldnt say its a draw...im sure if asked..most would pick go 14-0 and win the post season and super bowl then go 16-0 in the regular season and get bounced in the playoffs..

granted..both are pretty impressive.

It is humorous that a Chicago fan would find a metric that would allow the '85 Bears to accompany the '72 Dolphins.

The fact remains that there is only one I repeat one team that went undefeated - the 1972 Miami Dolphins. People can complain about soft schedule and what not, but in the end they ran the table. It should be noted that the Dolphins had to got to Pittsburgh for the championship game, which was obviously BS. That was right after the immaculate deception game.

I'll take a 16 win regular season and losing the Super Bowl over losing a few regular season games but wining the SB.
A 16 win regular season doesn't happen every year. Winning the Super Bowl does

I should add that the 1985 Bears were a historically great team, but ONE SB appearance. The Dolphins went to three straight with two victories. The '74 team may have made it four in a row if it wasn't for the stupid playoff seeding and the "Sea of Hands". If it wasn't for the What a LAF, then they might have been right there in '75.

can't say I agree with that...you need to go undefeated in the regular season plus win the Super Bowl to surpass that record (regardless if there are more games played today)...but I do think that the Pats undefeated regular season (16-0) should get more love...that's a pretty impressive record even if they did eventually lose in the Super Bowl...same way I think that the Golden State Warriors regular season win record of 73 wins gets overlooked by many people because they happened to lose in the Finals that year

The Dolphins running attack was so dominant that they didn't even need Griese. They could have run the Wildcat with Mercury as the QB.

Were the Redskins and Vikes even in attendance for the SBs?

You're talking from the POV of a fan whose team has won a bunch of SB's. If 2007 happened and the Pats hadn't already won 3 would you really have been happy with the 16-0 regular season and SB loss? It was a special season but honestly, I'd rather have the SB win.
