2019 March Madness Tournament on CBS, TBS, TNT & TruTV + in 4K/HDR on DirecTV & Dish

For any technical or PQ comments, include:

1. The network (TBS, TNT, TruTV) or CALL LETTERS of your local CBS affiliate. (For 4k and/or UHD games, you only need to list the provider)

2. The provider. (OTA, DirecTV, CBSAA, Spectrum, etc)

3. Any other relevant information ("streaming from the CBS Sports app on my iPhone via Chromecast")

Handy and free Excel bracket generator.

Amazon says you can stream in 4K with Amazon 4K Fire Stick, so I ordered one. Would I just stream with one of the networks or provider apps you have listed here, or will they have a special banner like they did for NFL Thursday night games?

I just got a 4K tv last week, so I don't have 4K DirecTV installed yet. I wasn't sure I could arrange the install before this weekend, so the Fire Stick seems like it will be a good alternative in the meantime.

DirecTV 4k feed on the first four game seems to have mismatched audio channels. Dialogue normally on center channel is coming in through the left rear speaker.

Regular TruTV feed seems fine. Some commercials on the 4k feed seem fine.

Users on "sat guys " in the dish network forums also had audio issues. So I believe it was a broadcast issue

Of course we get a full screen black band at the bottom of our screens. Why can't they just show the score bar by itself and let the image show rather than extending the black all the way across. They aren't using those outside areas for anything.

Are any of the games actually in 4k?

I'll say one thing. After watching a whole season of mainly ESPN games, with some exceptions, the announcing on the tournament games is exceptional. They actually talk about the game, unlike ESPN that conducts a talk show in the middle of a game.

TBS, TNT and TruTV games from Tulsa and Anaheim will be in 4k/HDR, though that appears to be an upcovert. DirecTV and Dish will have those. I've seen stories stating Fubo and Amazon are also carrying those games, but haven't seen any posts from AVSers streaming through those.

Maybe it's me, but the PQ on TruTV via DirecTV seems a whole lot better over last year. TruTV seemed bit-starved, last year.

Watching the Texas Tech-No. KY game on DTV 106 and it looks pretty impressive. You can really tell the difference when you switch back to the regular CBS broadcast which looks soft and blurry in comparison. Wish more regions were available in 4K/HDR.

Any word on the later rounds? Looking ahead this weekend, it doesn't appear any of the 2nd round games are being shown in 4K.

Yeah, I noticed a few dropouts in the 1st half. I had bad weather too here yesterday and couldn't get a good signal so I had to watch most of the games through the March Madness Live app. I don't think there were any 4K games yesterday though. Hope you're right about there being more games on Sunday!

I've been watching TT/NKy via the March Madness iOS app casting to a Chromecast dongle. It's dropped about three times, so far, each time requiring me to restart the app on my phone. Screen says "ready to cast" and the app thinks it's casting. So, went to the TNT app which seems a bit softer but is at least not dropping.

Thanks! It's just a shame they can only support broadcast in 4K from one region. It should be available on more platforms than just satellite too.

No sooner did I post that than they released an update to the app. The TNT app is performing well, so I'm not switching back just yet.

And the MM app for iOS has updated again, this morning. May try to test it out, tonight, but with an antenna and 2 DirecTV receivers, I don't really need it past the first round.

Yes - it was great! I plugged in the 4K stick when I got it, looked at the March Madness app, and immediately thought it was just a centralized place for me to subscribe to CBS, TruTV, etc. So I dismissed the idea and thought I'd just schedule the DirecTV 4K install for this week if Auburn continued to advance.

But then Saturday night the app had more stuff - clicking on the brackets of past games showed 2-minute recaps, and clicking on future games showed 2-minute discussions. Both of these were from CBS broadcasters, it appeared. The "Next Games" section seemed to be a mess - it didn't show the Auburn Kansas matchup for example - but I could click on the game I wanted in the bracket and then it started after a minute of ads. So I compared a couple of other games on Saturday to what was showing on TBS and CBS - the video was incredible!

I don't yet have 4K DirecTV, but just watching basketball on a new display makes everything look better. I wasn't really going to spend the money right away on the upgrade for DirecTV to be honest. But after watching the crisp video on the Amazon Stick, it really made the normal satellite feed look fuzzy! Very impressive.

So that allowed me to watch the Auburn Kansas game on Saturday night in all of its 4K glory. Auburn's impressive showing in that game just seemed like icing on the cake after getting all of this working! I use my Amazon stick occasionally, but it is just as easy to watch streaming services with my Xbox (which is usually already on), so I would have missed this without your post. Thanks @DrDon !

Uhm.. That's great, but Auburn v Kansas wasn't a 4k game. The only 4k/UHD venue, last weekend, was Tulsa. And, AFAIK, none of the TBS, TNT, TruTV or March Madness apps offer 4k. But it does seem as if your device and 4k set do a remarkable job of upconverting. So, there's that.

This weekend, only the Anaheim venue is getting the 4k/UHD treatment.
