I believe I mentioned earlier in the thread that it was only a matter of time till the Reds started winning. They have the fourth best run differential in the National League. Once they get Wood back, they should be that much better.

The Dodgers became the first team to win 50 games last night.

More and more, it's looking like a Dodgers/Yankees World Series.

Starting tonight, Astros @ Yankees for 4 games. Astros swept their 3-game series, April 8 - 10.

Astros are on a 4-game losing streak, losing 12 - 0 against Bluejays in Houston, then losing a low-scoring 3-game series 'gainst Redlegs, in Cincinnati.

Yankees have a 5-game winning streak, squashing WhiteSox in Chicago, and the Rays at home. Runs 39 - 11.

More on the Yankees/RedSox London game, June 29-30.

Quote:
It seats about 60,000 for baseball, and reportedly all the tickets were sold in 15 minutes. It’s historic, the first games of any kind between major league teams to be played in Europe, where the sport has grown in leaps and bounds since the advent of the World Baseball Classic in 2006.

Meanwhile, the Yankees enjoy a seven game winning streak. Most recently, dispatching the Astros 10 - 6, and 4 - 1 at Yankee Stadium. Tonight, Miley (6 - 4) vs Tanaka (5 - 5).

"Yanks HR streak hits 26 games to set club mark"

Quote:
For a record-setting 26th consecutive game, the Yankees hit at least one home run. When third baseman DJ LeMahieu's fifth-inning three-run shot got up just over Yankee Stadium's right-field wall Sunday afternoon, the 2019 Yankees broke a tie with the 1941 Yankees, who had held the old franchise record of 25 straight games.

But the Astros behind Verlander won the matinee 9 - 4, taking one of the series' four games and ending the Yankees win streak at eight.

Not only was it a walk off home run, that was three games in a row with a walk off home run. The home runs were all hit by rookies. Verdugo was considered a top prospect before the season. Smith is up there, but Beaty and Garlick I don't think were anywhere near the top. As they say, the Dodgers have an embarrassment of riches right now. Maybe their only weakness is bullpen in the majors and pitching in the minors.

With the Dodgers off to a great start, I wonder if they would consider moving AJ Pollack before the break. If not the break, then maybe the offseason.

The Dodgers are very deep with talent, Hershiser joked that they have enough talent to field two major league teams! Still looking for that Series win though...

I agree on Pollack, it seems like that guy is very fragile and always on the IL.

the Dodgers have been good the past few years but not good enough to win it all...until they show me something different I don't see this year being any different...talent doesn't always win you championships...Kershaw always falls apart in the playoffs...teams aren't going to pitch to Bellinger in the post-season...I'd rather see LA win then the Yankees but I'll wait and see how they're playing in September

Would you prefer him gone before the end of July or after the season?

I agree. They are quickly becoming this generations Braves.

I still think Roberts overuses the bullpen. If a team sees the same pitcher three nights in a row, then they will take advantage.

An interesting take on the bullpen woes in MLB. In the Dodger's case, maybe Roberts should go to a six man rotation and let his starters go deeper into the game.

I would trade him before the end of July and try and pick up some bullpen help. But as he was just signed this past off-season I doubt he's going anywhere but back into center field for the Dodgers. Until the next time he's injured anyway...

The more I look at it I can't see them trading him. What value would he have? They would probably have to throw in a boat load of cash just to make the deal work. What team would want an injured player? A multi player trade might work, but Pollack would be the throw in not the main dish.

The best the Dodgers can hope for is maybe he comes back and is really good the last half of the year. They could unload him in the off season, but would still have to throw in some cash probably.

Yankees & RedSox come out swinging in London town.

"Union jacked: Yanks, Red Sox total 12 runs in 1st"

Quote:
Apparently, there was only one way the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox felt they could introduce baseball to the United Kingdom: with runs -- plenty of them.
It took both teams very little time to flex their offensive power Saturday, plating a combined 12 runs by the end of the opening inning of this weekend's two-game series at London Stadium.

Summing up MLB's weekend "London Blitz".

Yankees: 2 wins; 29 runs; 32 hits; 4 HRs.

RedSox: 0 wins; 21 runs; 33 hits, 6 HRs.

London Stadium wasn't planned to account for baseball, and at this time of year, the sun slowly descends in the sky almost directly behind home plate. It's as if a flashlight with 174 quadrillion watts is being aimed at the center fielders in mid-to-late afternoon.

London Stadium is smaller than your typical MLB ballpark. It’s only 385 to dead center field and 330 down the line to either foul pole. The distance to “deep” center is shorter than any current MLB ballpark and well below the league average of 402.6 feet.

There's been a lot of speculation about how Skaggs died -- but so far, officials have not released a cause of death. The Medical Examiner has said there were no obvious signs of suicide or foul play. The Dodgers now are on a 5 home game walk off win streak. Tuesday night's game was strange in which the Diamondback's closers walked five in a row. Talk about grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory.

The stuff dreams are made of.

Quote:
“We just don’t feel like we’re out of it,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “You get to a point where you expect to win.

With one out, Bellinger pounced on the second pitch he saw. He dropped his bat and raised his arms the instant he connected. He pumped his chest after it landed 442 feet away, igniting another late-night celebration. “I think it’s just pretty crazy what we’ve been doing,” Bellinger said. “There’s not too many words you can say to describe it. Being part of it is special.”

With this big of a lead, I wish Roberts would rest some of the players. Bellinger's average took a hit in June. The starters will get a break, as it lines up well with the break. Still, it would be nice to let Maeda and Stripling start after the break and then the All Stars.
