Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Animated Series on Netflix

Jurassic World reopens its gates for animated Camp Cretaceous Netflix series in 2020

Hold on to your butts! Jurassic World is reopening its gates for a new animated Netflix series that’ll follow a group of adventuring teens left behind on Isla Nublar after the dinosaurs go wild.

Set in the aftermath of 2015’s Jurassic World movie starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, DreamWorks Animation’s Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows six teenagers stranded behind at an adventure camp on the other side of the island. Their experience takes a turn for the dangerous when they’re left behind with the escaped dinosaurs and have to come together to survive the wild prehistoric creatures.

The series comes from the creative minds of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow. Scott Kreamer and Lane Lueras are the showrunners of the new series and also executive producers.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is expected to debut on Netflix in 2020. No word yet on the voice cast, but here’s hoping Jeff Goldblum will once again reprise his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm.

I know they've only released a teaser, but I have to say, as an animated series, this really doesn't sound compelling:

1) Who's the target audience? If animated=young people, then we can probably assume no real harm will occur to the characters.
2) With 3D animation, we're likely looking at a bunch of dead-eyed creepy animated humans.
3) It will likely be full of teen angst.

This would play far better as a live action series.

My thoughts exactly! When I first read it I immediately thought, a Jurassic World series, this could be interesting. Then saw it was animated and saw the trailer and was like hmmmm, not so sure now.

Wasn't there a live action dinosaur series a few years ago? Big budget, broadcast network production, lavish special effects? It failed, which really surprised me, given as how popular dinosaurs are among the younger set. Heck, the older set too -- I loves me some prehistoric beasties!

That would be Terra Nova:

Also produced by Universal/Amblin...

Personally, I think the next attempt should involve dinosaurs played by people dressed like this:

I liked Tera Nova, had potential. A lot of people I work with still talk about that show as one they are still disappointed it didn't continue.
