Hogan's Heroes Sequel Series in Development

‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Sequel Series In the Works From Al Ruddy, Village Roadshow & Rough House Pictures

EXCLUSIVE: Another classic TV sitcom is mounting a comeback. The iconic 1960s comedy Hogan’s Heroes is being rebooted by the original series co-creator Al Ruddy, Village Roadshow Entertainment Group and Rough Pictures.

The reimagined version will be a single-camera action adventure comedy series set in present day focusing on the descendants of the original heroes, now scattered around the world, who team up for a global treasure hunt.

Ruddy will executive produce with Rough House Pictures principals Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill and the company’s president of production Brandon James. Alix Jaffe and Adam Dunlap will oversee for VREG

Co-created by Ruddy and the late Bernard Fein, the original Hogan’s Heroes spanned 168 episodes that ran on CBS from 1965-1971. It centered around a group of Allied POWs imprisoned in a German prison camp, led by U.S. Colonel Robert Hogan, who secretly used the camp to launch Allied espionage missions. The series starred Bob Crane as Hogan, Werner Klemperer as Colonel Wilhelm Klink, Richard Dawson as Corporal Peter Newkirk and John Banner as Sergeant Hans Schultz.

Hogan’s Heroes is part of the Rysher Library, which VREG’s parent company Vine purchased in 2015.

Ruddy also produced features including The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby. Rough House Pictures’ credits include the HBO series Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones which was recently picked up for a second season.

If only one of these streaming services would do a proper remake of Nanny and the Professor, my life would be complete.

It's the value of brand names. The content is secondary and could be re-branded from any other pilot concept.

"The Bonanzas," a single-camera comedy in which descendants of the Cartwrights operate a Colorado dude ranch for tourists.

"Beverly Hillbillies 2020," a limited HBO drama in which descendants of the Clampetts struggle over control of the family's petrochemical empire.

"My Favorite Martians," a Netflix science-fiction adventure of interplanetary colonization and survival in an unforgiving, hostile alien environment.

"F Troopers," descendants of Civil War era calvarymen and Native Americans in contemporary Arizona struggle with modern political and social issues as climate change renders the landscape uninhabitable for everyone.

Do you think that brand name works with the over 60 crowd? I was just a kid and I knew it was stupid.

Hey, Kim Richards before Escape to Witch Mountain.

That show seems a bit like they could have called it "Hazel Poppins".....

I still say they could totally remake "The Fall Guy".

The original premise was, stunt work was hard to find (and the pay sucked), so Colt Seavers (Lee Majors) moonlit as a skip tracer (bounty hunter for bail jumpers).

Well, it's still hard to find stunt work, especially since digital FX can allow more actors to appear to do more stunts - and the pay still sucks.

Here's the deal:

Colt Seaver (still Lee Majors) is retired from being a stunt man, but now works as a stunt coordinator and runs a stunt school. Due to the above issues, he still runs down bail jumpers and enlists a couple of his best students to help him.

Loved The Fall Guy. And Matt Houston too. Wish one of the streaming sites would carry these. Some classic tv right there.

Edit: Now I have The Fall Guy theme song stuck in my head.🤨

Being as creative minds have dwindled and they're going to reincarnate shows, bring back I Dream of Jeannie. Lots of females to choose from, and with the current technology it would work 10X better than the 60s. Scantily clad hot babe. Oh yeah!

Except in this era, you couldn't have a female Genie calling a male "master". They'd have to reverse the roles and have a male genie with a professional female executive at a private aerospace firm. Perhaps "The Rock" is due to take on a Netflix series?

This is the time for any and all ideas. All these streaming platforms have tons of cash at hand and what they need is new content, even if its old, it seems. It also appears it does not even have to be that good, such as The Ranch, for instance. Netflix is worth $130 billion alone. A good time for a side career, learning to write for tv perhaps. Hogan's Heroes, I Dream of Jeanie are as good an idea as any. Beyond that, "I know nothing, I see nothing"

If you're a young, attractive person who wants to break into the TV side of show business, there has never been a better time than right now. The number of job openings has skyrocketed in the last few years. OTOH, we'll now have to import even more young, attractive acting talent from the UK and Australia to fill all those open spots because there's evidently been a critical shortage of young, attractive Americans willing to do that sort of work for a couple of decades now.

And just when it's getting so much harder fer them damn ferriners to get a work visa, too! The clampdown on immigration has real costs, people.

If this series does get the green light, wondering if the actor playing Hogan will have the same colorful background as Bob Crane?

How about an F-Troop reboot?

It wasn't politically incorrect, actually the Indians... er Indigenous Native Americans... were smarter than the fort's white men- so that's a go!
It wasn't sexist, the females were always decidedly smarter than the white men and the Indian... er Indigenous Native American women had their men wrapped around their little fingers- so that's a go!
It didn't have a political agenda other than featuring old glory occasionally- so that's a go!

Three go's an no no's... so how about an F-Troop reboot Hollywood? You could probably even just recycle the old scripts as is... can't get any easier than that!

Now that I think about it, I Dream of Jeanie is perfect. Jeanie's Master was an astronaut. That makes it a space show now. Make the pitch, "think The Orville, but with a cooler captain, He has a sexy Jeanie and she's green. He found her on Rigel 12." Lol.

^ Forrest Tucker was perfect in the role of the always scheming Sgt. O'Rourke who only had $$$ on his mind regardless of any external situations.

FWIW- Most of the old shows like F-Troop, Jeannie, Get Smart, etc... didn't need a canned laugh track because they were authentically funny without being insulting.
