Yes, we are sure. It's how Disney+ has always been advertised pre-launch (commercial free) and not a single report of commercials during streams today from those who managed to access the app and content. It's popularity is undoubtedly due to the price.

To my knowledge, there isn't even an Avatar 4K on the market yet. Do you know different?

there isn't a Phantom Menace 4K or Empire Strikes Back 4K or Pirates of the Caribbean 4K or Force Awakens 4K etc either but they are all available in 4K/Dolby Vision on Disney+

Anyone venture to measure the bitrates?

Apple+ bitrates are suppose to be relatively high.

Mandolorian is coming in at Average: 16.28 Mbps and Peak: 28.02 Mbps

Toy Story 3 4K came in at 15 average and 27 peak

Disney+ in general seems to be around those marks for a lot of their programming...so they're squarely in 2nd place, slightly ahead of Netflix

Apple TV+ the lowest I've seen is 22 average and 30 peak...but as high as 29 average and 41 peak for 'See'...so Apple TV+ is the clear winner in terms of bitrates/image quality

Disney+ is actually really good but just pales in comparison to Apple

I’m going to disagree with you on the last part. Especially for TFA, which is what (IMO) people were hoping for from TLJ. If anything what I’ve seen just makes me what the discs even more for the higher bitrate.

Interesting, 15 vs. 22 Mbps, so about a 50% higher on Apple+ than Disney+.

But are bitrates hardcoded into a given episode or show? Or as Apple+ accumulates more content and maybe more number of subscribers, particular higher numbers accessing the service at a given time, maybe they will lower the bitrates. Or their CDN will throttle the bandwidth available at a given time?

all the streamers use variable bitrates

I'm going to still use Movies Anywhere or iTunes to stream my 4K movies as they still have higher bit-rates then Disney+

I watched a bit of Attack of the Clones and was really impressed...the OT is more subtle but that's a good thing, I don't want baked on DV...it's definitely a new 4K master because Disney is heavily rumored to be coming out with a SW 4K boxset in 2020 so it only makes sense that Disney+ would be using those masters

I agree, the OT/PT from what I’ve seen is subtle HDR, but it’s still there with WCG to boot. They are used to enhance rather than “show off”. TFA enhances and “cranks” up the shiny bits I’ve been very impressed with everything I’ve been seeing from the movies thus far.

I was browsing through some early seasons of the Simpsons and wasn't that impressed with the image quality...I was expecting more of an improvement...but the later more recent seasons look absolutely stunning even without HDR- so much pop and colors leap off the screen...

The early seasons have also been horribly cropped to the point where many jokes are missing.

I didn't even realize how bad it was until I saw your post and did some Googling...terrible decision to reconfigure the 4:3 aspect ratio into this cropped widescreen...you're cutting off 1/3 of the frame...

Watched a bit on Apple TV with my JVC projector. I also noticed a black level issue someone previously reported. The opening few seconds of Captain Marvel have a couple fades to black that looked terrible on Disney+, definitely worse than UHD stream from VUDU on the same system. Will go back down and compare to disc shortly.

Watched Phantom Menace for the Duel of Fates scene - it sounded great but looked terrible, especially with the interleaved out door battle scenes with the droids and gungans. Really looked like DVD quality. Watched the intro to A New Hope and that actually looked better.

On my Apple TV every, show starts with subtitles on, which I would generally leave on, but they appear outside of the scope frame and I have a CIH setup, so I just see the top edges at most. so tedious to keep turning them off.

They do have all 6 seasons of the adventures of the gummi bears!

I agree that the Phantom Menace Duel of the Fates part looked oversaturated...I was getting that annoying subtitle issue this morning...every program would automatically start with subtitles enabled and even when I disabled it manually it would turn on again the next time I started that program...luckily in the evening the issue went away on its own and now subtitles are all disabled by default

Disney+ showed up on my Samsung TV this morning. I signed up for my free year with Verizon Unlimited.
I tried the Mandalorian, but it doesn't come in with Dolby Digital Plus or even regular DD 5.1.
The details screen says the show is in 5.1, but the Samsung app isn't picking it up.
I tried several other shows and found the same.

The 4K HDR is working, though. I'll spend more time with it when/if they get the DD+ working.

It really is terrible. I only like the early seasons, and the cropping makes them unwatchable.

I heard that Fox reformatted the episodes years ago when FXX was given the exclusive syndication rights...apparently the FX NOW app on the Apple TV gives you an option to watch Simpsons in 4:3 or 16:9

Yeah the cropping started with Fox reruns, although it may have been a decision by the producers. We know for certain it is the producers that are now erasing the Michael Jackson episode from history...

I went through and sampled a lot of content last night. All the Pixar and Marvel movies they have on there are remastered in DV, which is really nice. They're missing several, looks like most will be up by July 2020. You get a message if you find the movie in the 4k/HDR section. Some odd choices on what is, and isn't remastered yet. No Mary Poppins, or Sound of Music, for example, but some pretty obscure stuff. Disappointing that the only TV show in HDR is the Mandalorian. I watched a bit of A New Hope, and was really impressed with the picture.

Its a shame, because the Fox TV Everywhere app gave you a choice to watch in 16x9 or the original 4x3. Also, Disney+ seems to be missing a lot of episodes. Kinda the story on a lot of stuff. My absolute favorite weekday afternoon cartoon growing up is on there: Talespin, but the pilot isn't there?!

Viewed "The Mandalorian" last night on a buddies system .. not bad .. I'll still wait for the season to be fully available before I sign up, since pretty much the new SW material is all I have an interest in ..

Anyone else having issues with fast forward or rewind on Apple TV 4k? On one of mine, it would only go 30 sec either way, and the other it didn't even let me. This was while watching A New Hope,

No idea, never a breakdown usually outside of the 3.2 million estimates mobile downloads. Verizon is footing the bill (at least that’s what I’ve read) for the yearly subscription so I’m not sure Disney “cares” about the “free” accounts

was always expected to be a huge launch but I think these numbers have surpassed even Disney's initial expectations...question is how many will stick around long term...or will a lot of people get their fill of SW, Pixar and Avengers and then unsubscribe...I'm planning on sticking with it at least until Mandalorian finishes up in December...after that it depends on what new content they drop- I doubt the Obi Wan or Cassian Andor series will drop anytime soon

also depends on when Disney releases the SW Complete 4K boxset...right now I own all the movies on Blu-ray but these new 4K transfers are pretty impressive...maybe Disney would be smart to keep it a Disney+ exclusive for at least a year

The key to keeping subscribers is to make sure there is always an ongoing original series at any time. Doing weekly releases also helps in that regard.
