I understand that. This came together quickly. It is why I said going forward, so the drivers will be more acclimated to the equipment and idiosyncrasies of the game.

Another thing they could do is get the drivers together in their shops or factories. It might make it easier to reduce issues like JJ had.

Surely Indycar is just going to have to postpone both the Indianapolis races on 9th May and 24th May. What's taking them so long to announce it?
What is the urgency to postpone?

If say 10 to 15 of the current drivers were participating plus several drivers from the last decade or so like Alonso, Webber, Rosberg then it would hold a greater appeal.
Virtual motor racing is just one more example of the well known televised sports phenomenon, “Trash Sports,” think demolition derbies. I don’t watch that kind of stuff anymore but certainly don’t decry its availability on the tube or question the judgement of those who do watch it. Now, where are the Australian Rules Football telecasts?

I'm not saying that making the announcement is "urgent". Other things are more urgent. It's just that it's blindingly obvious and inevitable, so them not announcing it is the thing that's surprising to me. I only mentioned it because of the sheer number of other events which are scheduled for dates well after the Indy dates which have already been postponed, so it seems that they are "holding out", what for I don't know. I'm sure it'll all unfold in good time.

Haha! They don't show those kind of events over here - not that they are just not shown on TV; they are not even held in real life for people to go to in person! I'm always a little bemused to see them in movies and the crowds there.

Yep. Full lockdown here in the UK as of today for 3 weeks (at least). Cases still rising exponentially and widespread criticism that the UK government should have done this 2 weeks ago when we had the chance, knowing what happened in Italy.

None of the e-sports drivers who compete in leagues for money were in the virtual F1 races. Which is probably a good thing as they'd destroy everyone including the real racers - since they are just as good at exploiting in game rules as the real teams/drivers are at doing that in real life, and its very different.

Hi Chris

As a valued F1 TV subscriber and following the changes announced to the 2020 FIA Formula One World Championship, we wanted to let you know about some changes to your F1 TV subscription.
With no live racing possible yet and as we wait for the season to start, we’re extending your existing F1 TV subscription by 2 months for no additional charge.
You can continue to use F1 TV as normal, and you won’t be charged for this additional period.
There are over 100 hours of Documentaries and Features to watch on F1 TV, including in-depth profiles of racing greats as well as a series on the stars of the future called Chasing the Dream.
You don’t need to do anything right now and we hope to see tyres racing on the tarmac soon.

The F1 team

They really need to cancel all sporting events this year incl of course racing. Its just a bloody game/race no one cares, not if its about life or death. This thing is here to stay, its not a few weeks lockdown and then life goes back to normal.

There is no way in hell in a few months people should be gathering together in 10s of thousands or more that is beyond moronic.

Cancel it now, let people know and spend your resources where it matters.

Yes. At least they've finally cancelled the Olympics - that dragging on not being cancelled was crazy. There were qualifying events that athletes couldn't have travelled to and were training for! If anyone thought F1 was over-optimistic, then the IOC were on a completely different level of fantasy, insisting that it would go ahead as planned long after it was obvious that it couldn't. It took Canada to go first and announce publicly "we will not go", with other countries following. for the International Olympic Committee to actually do the right thing.

What I find bonkers is that if it's next year they've said they are still insistinging on calling it "Tokyo 2020". . More IOC arrogance, now they are fighting mathematics!

Meanwhile, what's really important:

We don't know where we're going to be even a month from now, so it's silly to say cancel entire seasons of anything yet. And that is reflected in the fact that no sport has.

Of course we know what will happen a month from now, there is plenty of data now and the math has been done. Scientists are all saying this is a long term event, a vaccine is at best a year away, and yet you think in a month things can be back to normal ?!!

The ONLY reason to have these events is so the people who own them can make more money. I'm sure someone will now say but what about the jobs - there are massive economic implications which will require global restructuring, a few races are entirely pointless. Every single big sports franchise is just about profits for the few.

I wish people would stop listening to stupid politicians who are morons with a vested interest, listen to doctors and scientists. Entire countries are being run and people's lives put at risk by incompetent leaders.

And yes plenty of gatherings and conferences and events and even the Olympics have been cancelled. Any sport that doesn't is run by idiots or more likely billionaires more worried about their money than saving lives.

Nice strawman, I never said that things might be back to normal in a month. Just that it's way too early to talk about cancelling seasons because we don't know how long this will play out.

Did I hear correctly in that Seb is throwing in the towel? Or is this simply more fake news? If true I saddened to hear this. I don't blame him. A full year of sitting out without a seat to sit in and the forecast for 2021, who knows what will happen? A full season is unlikely given the nature of this viral pandemic. Well, at least he saves himself the humiliation at the hands of Hamilton and company. Seb had a great career and I always thought of him as more of a gentleman than many of his compadres. Nico seems to have eased nicely into civilian life. My hope is this road too lies ahead for Vettel.

I guess the real issue is the viability of F1 as a racing formula. With at least a year's hiatus will fans return to see the Mercedes juggernaut run the deck yet again?

Don't you just wish HDMI would crawl off to some darkened corner and die a sad, lonely death?

Where did you hear that? I think that Seb will probably have to take a pay cut, but unless he is shut out of a top team he will be on the grid in '21. I think Ferrari still want him just not at his current pay.

F1 per se will probably survive the crisis, F1 teams might also, but F1 tracks, race organizers, event organizers, specifically those dedicated travel companies that relay on tourism, accommodations, etc. will be the ones at risk the longer this situation continues, as will small outfits (F1 news magazines, websites, photographers, etc.). It's just a matter of time for them to start floundering.

We need to prepare for a new world after this crisis.

No-where, it seems. Unless there's a URL to a story, it's not even worth thinking about. With a URL, we'd be able to take a judgement on how believable it is on a scale of 0-100 where 100 is a video of Seb posted on formula1.com. A post saying "I've read it" and conspicuously not supplying a source, is about -1000 on that scale

That scream you heard was from his worthless daughters having to share the wealth.
Yes, I remember recently one of the his daughters was called an "heiress" in the headline of a UK tabloid newspaper. "heiress" being her OCCUPATION! Unbelievable.

I'm guessing NBCSN is really desperate for programming as they will be showing the second race of the IndyCar Iracing Challenge on Saturday at 2:30 ET. Not sure what this means for those who might want to watch who aren't in the US.

Robert Wickens is set to be racing in this series, he missed the first one as his steering wheel had not arrived. Hinchcliffe missed the first one as his car did not appear on the track, which is about par for the course for him lately.
