Yeah it is a nice story to see some of these guys that aren't at the front during a real race become competitive in iRacing.

But you are correct that there are some that are serious and others treat it like a game. Look at it from a driver's perspective. He is asked or cajoled into trying this virtual racing. He gives it a try and it is similar but different enough that is frustrating. Said driver realizes that their is nothing really on the line, so he has a little fun by turning it into a crash fest. I may disagree with doing something like that when others are trying to take it seriously, but I get where it comes from.

But it is entertainment and that is all. Just as WWE gets ratings from action and drama, this last race has gotten way more traction worldwide then if Pagenaud hadn't taken out Lando.

Ferrari certainly didn't help matters and share some of the blame. Vettel made quite a few unforced errors over the last two seasons which I've always accounted as him pushing too hard.

IndyCar seems to have finalized a rather ambitious and hectic schedule:

https://www.indycar.com/News/2020/05...-Season-Finale

I question whether all those races will actually run. Hopefully, they'll get some in.

If I had to guess, then it would be the non-Texas June races and the September races. Richmond was already canceled by Nascar. Not sure about Wisconsin for next month. I think the Oregon governor has canceled events into Sep. California is still a crap shoot.

Right now, I would consider Texas and Indy as definite. After that, I just take everything one week at a time. And remember to thank those people that you know that decided to hurry back to the US from overseas after the outbreak.

I wouldn't consider anything definite. COVID-19 has well proved it's ability to hit like a bomb in a given area. Doesn't mean it's going to but doesn't mean it's not going to, either.
I certainly haven't been paying close attention, but from what I've seen it appears Texas' COVID rate is on a steady climb. If that doesn't change the facts on the ground could easily preclude a race in June no matter how determined organizers and governments are to make it happen.
Hopefully not, it would be nice to see some racing.

No, nothing is definite, but it is about as definite as one can be right now.

I believe Texas's death rate per 100k people is one of the lowest in the country. My brother lives in Dallas and says that it has gotten better. He did have two patients that died of the virus, but he says they seem to be getting on top of it now. He even gave the ok for my sister to travel to see our mother in Dallas. It may not be perfect, but I think they should be able to pull off a race without spectators.

Of course, if Nascar has issues in their upcoming races, then that will throw a wrench into everything.

No. Death rate has been steady for 3 weeks. Number of positive diagnosed is a little higher but that's because they're doing more testing.

As predicted by Andrew Benson of the BBC yesterday (HERE) - Sainz will go to Ferrari and Ricciardo will go to McLaren!

story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/52661201

After seeing Lando and Carlos driving around with milk in Sky's newly released video (hilarious)

... I can only imagine how much fun Lando and Danny will have in the same team!

I would love to see Ferrari get involved with Indy cars too, as long as they never leave F1.

Fernando and Seb, what a team that would be.

While humorous, I wonder if Seb is afraid of ovals like a lot of Europeans.

Would Ferrari be willing to be an engine supplier only? I can't imagine Indy giving up the spec car at least in the near future.

That said I know Roger is a big fan of Ferrari and has a couple of rare models. I am sure he would be excited to get Ferrari into the series. For Ferrari, there should be a lot of crossover for the engine guys with Indy going hybrid.

I saw another positive note in The Oklahoman this morning. The applications for unemployment benefits in Oklahoma were down dramatically last week. I hope this reflects the trend everywhere and that it lasts. My son lives in New Jersey and works in midtown Manhattan. The trend is promising there too.

For those of you gearheads who have seen the 1976 cult video Rendezvous - Claude Lelouch where he takes a Ferrari 275GTB on a haul ass journey thru Paris in the early AM to meet his girlfriend at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, we now have a new version. During the pandemic someone has done it in Italy at dawn with a slightly different ending. Worth a look.

I wonder how much computer horsepower it takes to produce a virtual auto race? It has to produce an individual high-def view for each car, views for the TV show and views for others.

The cost cap is coming and will go down to $135 mill in 2023. Along with it will be a BOP with aero. I am not a big fan of that regulation, but at the same time everyone knows how little I care about aero.

At the end of the article, Chris mentions that Liberty can make changes to the race weekend. I am sure Liberty is watching the Nascar races closely. The lack of practices hasn't been a huge detriment to the two races. The teams may not like it, but I could see the weekend going to a Sat/Sun with the lone practice followed by qualifying.

They've been talking about shorter weekends for a long time - some of the back-to-back races being hoped for this year will require a 2-day weekend for them to be even possible. This year is a good time to experiment and they've currently got everyone's goodwill for such experiments .

The Indycar race at Texas will be on NBC instead of NBCSN. With little else on, this seems like a no brainer.

Yes they have, but now they have are getting some data from another series to help back up their ideas.

You just cannot cheat so blatantly and hope to get away with it.

It’s also a Championship made for Charity, for UNICEF. It’s double the bad, i mean.

For Audi it’s a big image damage. I can understand the punishment.

Some click-bate from Buxton.

https://amp.formula1.com/en/latest/a...mpression=true

“Never before in F1 have we had the two leading championship protagonists of their day holding such success between them.”

Really? Prost/Senna, McLaren, ‘88 and’89?

At the time, obviously they did not have 9 WCs between them, but I would say THAT was a rivalry for the ages.

That said, I would love to see Seb/Ham, but at this point in his career, Seb is a broken toy.

thejudge13 has been putting forward articles that the Mercedes Chairman is favorable to adding Seb and is willing to send Lewis and Toto packing if that is what it takes, so Buxton may not be fully taking the whizz.

Personally I don't see how Seb would deal with Lewis. The team staff is clearly behind Hamilton and I firmly believe he is a better driver than Seb so in identical machinery I don't see Seb being a serious threat to him.

Can someone tell me why a team would hire Ricciardo over Seb? Is it just the money? Danny is not a better driver, I don't think anyone thinks that, Seb is a 4 time world champion and no it wasn't due to Newey alone. Danny left RB because it was clear he was never going to beat Max and that Horner was going to back the faster driver i.e. Max. Danny wants to be world champion and he never will be no matter how many nutsack jokes he makes, all its going to get him is more views on social media, not podiums. He just isn't good enough and he's not going to beat the top guys head to head.
