Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet on Apple TV+ (Comedy Series)

Rob McElhenney & Charlie Day Comedy Lands Straight-To-Series Order At Apple

Apple has given a straight-to-series order to a half-hour scripted comedy from Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, a project marking their first collaboration since It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. McElhenney also will star in the series from the recently announced Lionsgate/3 Arts Entertainment venture and Ubisoft.

Written by McElhenney and Day, the cutting-edge comedy is set in a video game development studio and will explore the intricacies of the human condition through hilarious and innovative ways. McElhenney and Day executive produce under their RCG banner with 3Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Nicholas Frenkel and Gérard Guillemot, Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik for Ubisoft.

McElhenney also has an off-cycle untitled comedy pilot set at Fox with former It’s Always Sunny writer and exec producer Rob Rosell. Day also exec produces that project along with Rosell, Glenn Howerton and 3 Arts’ Nick Frenkel. McElhenney’s wife (and Sunny co-star) Kaitlin Olson, Rob Riggle and Leah Remini are set to star. Day also co-created the Fox multi-cam comedy The Cool Kids, which premieres on Fox this fall.

McElhenney co-created It’s Always Sunny, and stars and executive produces with Day and Howerton. The long-running comedy series premieres its 13th season in September.

I finished it the other day and was pleasantly surprised. It was better than I expected, especially after the first episode. I almost bailed after it but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's sort of feels like the first was filmed at a different time than the rest of them and they grounded the series a lot after shooting it.

I agree - the first episode was a poor kickoff. I gave it one more episode before I was going to bail. Glad I did, it was a pretty good first season overall. Not as good as Silicon Valley, but worth the watch.

Only got round to this last night and watched 6 eps in a row. Genuinely funny stuff - ep3 had me laugh out loud a few times and that rarely happens with TV comedy. Ep5 took a nice, unexpectedly, dark turn. Looking forward to finishing S1 this evening. It also looks and sounds great.

I agree with the above. Wasn't sure during the first episode but man, it sure turned out to be pretty funny. I am really looking forward to more seasons.

‘Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet’: Apple Comedy Sets Return With Special Quarantine Episode

Apple’s praised workplace comedy series Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet has set a May 22 return with a special, new coronavirus-era episode, written, filmed and edited in quarantine.

Shot entirely on iphone, the half-hour Mythic Quest: Quarantine finds the team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all-time tasked with working from home. Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) and Ian (Rob McElhenney) struggle with solitude, while Brad (Danny Pudi) and David (David Hornsby) start a charitable competition. Assistant Jo (Jessie Ennis) tries to explain video-conferencing to CW (F. Murray Abraham) with mixed results. To produce the episode, the cast and crew worked remotely in multiple locations across the country. You can watch a teaser above.

The episode was written by co-creator and exec producer McElhenney, co-creator and exec producer Megan Ganz and exec producer and star Hornsby. Ensemble cast also included Charlotte Nicdao, Imani Hakim, Ashly Burch, Craig Mazin, Naomi Ekperigin, Caitlin McGee and Humphrey Ker.

“Lots of workplaces are figuring out this whole working-from-home thing, and the gaming industry is no different. Virtual meetings are a new and special kind of hell, so I think people will relate,” said McElhenney. “Yes we’ve all had low points, but there have also been incredible moments of triumph and we wanted to celebrate that.

“We needed to shoot this episode fast without sacrificing quality. Thankfully, we’re living in a time when everyone’s got a camera in their pocket. Having an iPhone coupled with the ingenuity of our crew, allowed us to make this unique piece of television in just days. We hope people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Co-created by McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Ganz, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet follows a team of video game developers as they navigate the challenges of running a popular video game. The first season is now streaming globally on Apple TV+, and has already been picked up for a second season.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is executive produced by McElhenney and Day under their RCG banner; Michael Rotenberg and Nicholas Frenkel on behalf of 3Arts; and Jason Altman, Danielle Kreinik and Gérard Guillemot, for Ubisoft Film & Television. Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ganz (Modern Family, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) also executive produce. The series is produced by Lionsgate and 3Arts Entertainment and Ubisoft.

I loved the new episode. It ranks with the Parks & Rec reunion as a prime example of how writing and acting talent can overcome almost any limitation. It was funny, and had a lot of heart.

That is about as good as you can possibly do a quarantine episode. Friggen’ hilarious.

When the old dude was trying to video call the girl, I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a long time.

This show is good, and this episode was amazing. Kudos to all who put it together.

I think this is one of the funniest shows I have watched in a LONG time. Really hard, deep belly laughs.
