Vagrant Queen on Syfy

Vagrant Queen premieres on SYFY in 2020

Quote:
Adriyan Rae (Light as a Feather), who takes up the role of Elida, a
Star-Lord-esque outlaw with royal blood, who's on the run from the
galactic government.

Created and developed by Jem Garrard (director of Mech-X4 and Android
Employed), the upcoming show, which was first announced back in May, is
based on the comic book of the same name by writer Magdalene Visaggio and
artist Jason Smith. Less than a year after the comic went on sale, SYFY
announced that it would be adapting the source material for TV.

Rae is joined by co-stars Tim Rozon, Alex McGregor, and Paul du Toit.

Yeah, I'm a sucka for these shows too. Here's hoping Syfy won't pull a Syfy and end it prematurely a la Dark Matter, Blood Drive, Krypton... etc, etc...

Syfy says premiering in 2020.

... and Defiance, Continuum, Happy, The Expanse, Deadly Class ... while keeping shows like Wynona Earp and Van Helsing around seemingly indefinitely. The cancellation of Deadly Class after only one season was the final straw for me when it comes to checking out SyFy shows.

That's too inexpensive to justify quality, expensive SyFy shows. Even DC Universe costs more than that.

I doubt we'd ever see a standalone streaming service for Syfy. The channel is owned by Comcast (NBC/Universal), which is already set to launch the Peacock streaming service this summer. Three original sci-fi series have already been announced for the new service, including a reboot of Battlestar Galactica.

A real dedicated sci-fi/fantasy channel would be cool. Although I don't see it being financially feasible. At least the big guys, Netflix and Prime realize the need for more sci-fi/fantasy shows. I love this genre and will take all I can get.

Quote:
Netflix's 'The Witcher' is still the biggest series
in the world even as it loses steam in the US,
and it shows how crucial sci-fi and fantasy are
for streaming TV

Amazon has also recognized the importance of the sci-fi and fantasy genres in
streaming TV. Prime Video has ramped up its development of sci-fi and fantasy
shows over the last two years, doubling its percentage of sci-fi TV commissions in
the second half of 2019 compared to the same time in 2018, according to research
firm Ampere Analysis.

Netflix, however, is still the leader and has 41 sci-fi and fantasy shows in
development or production while Amazon has 27. Both are more than Hulu or Disney
Plus have combined, according to Ampere Analysis.

The cancellation of Deadly Class was a complete hose job to the viewers...and after that they lost me too. I was pissed when they unexpectedly canceled the very promising Incorporated too.
Just no reason to invest any time on any of their products when it's evident that quality has zero to do with if a show gets renewed or canceled.

Is anyone still watching SyFy on a regular basis anymore? I guess we have more options these days, but I surel haven’t. None of the current series have caught my attention and they just seem to run Harry Potter or Marvel movies all the time.

This looks linteresting though. I’ll give it a shot.

Same here. I checked out of that network when they cancelled the last show I watched there -- 'The Expanse'. Nevertheless, once Prime picked it up, I realized the cancellation was a blessing in disguise as Amazon has the resources and technology to produce & deliver that show right, and will in all likelihood keep it going as long as the production team wants (9 seasons if they follow the books).

I had totally forgotten about Incorpated. I really like that show too.

There was a time not too long ago when I would always keep an eye on what was coming up on the Syfy channel. Now I couldn't even tell you what shows it's currently airing beyond the two longer running shows I mentioned above (which I looked up to see if they'd been canceled yet).

But that's generally the case for broadcast these days. Even AMC has been on a downward slide of late. And some of FX's most promising shows will now go direct to Hulu.

Hmm, I dunno. I wanted to like it. But dayum, if the acting wasn’t worse than Sharknados. Lol. I’m still onboard the rocket ship as I loves me some outer space. But the escape shuttle is fueled and ready.

Well, I did check it out and it lost me by the time the opening credits came on; the dialog, acting & aliens were Mystery Science Theater material & the opening credits seemed so derivative of Killjoys I expected a "ooh ooh" in there Deleted before the credits finished.

That's it for me & SyFy.

Initially I did mostly liked Killjoys but the 5th season's finale couldn't come fast enough. The show deteriorated from sort of Farscape-like to the convoluted "Lady" backstory to downright lame.

For original programming, SyFy basically has sucked for a number of years. The Expanse was SyFy's last truly excellent dramatic & adult-themed space fare & they threw it away. But that was a blessing for the show & its ongoing success. I did like Defiance & Continuum; Dark Matter less so but mostly enjoyable & thought it deserved a S3 to wrap up the story.

I think this channel has degraded itself to the point of no return. I'm not wasting any more time on it or a Killjoys clone.

'Bye SyFy. It was nice knowing you for many decades but you've lost your way. Maybe someday you'll come up with a decent series besides ad infinitum reruns of Twilight Zone.

I've turned to Prime & Netflix for quality scifi & genre programming.

I used to find faults with Caprica I take that all back - Caprica was a masterpiece compared to the mediocrity they've been peddling.

I agree. $5-$6 for the content SyFy puts out now and then unceremoniously yanks early would be a rip-off.

The, as reported, $9.99 a month for commercial-free next day streaming of all NBC Universal network shows (Peacock) and access to NBC Sports live streaming is a much more compelling value to consider. We can hope that this sort of business model might allow a network like SyFy to produce more compelling content and stick with it longer as part of an on-demand streaming service than to cut their losses so early on shows with promise because the Live linear TV viewing numbers just never made economic sense. (The Expanse, Krypton, Incorporated, etc.)

Not an auspicious start:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10394778/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1039477...?ref_=tt_ov_rt

so far it's 3.6/10 with a lot of 1's

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/vagrant_queen/s01
so far audience is at 31% pos

I have to wonder if the few "critic" sites were on mind-altering substances when they watched Ep 1

It'll probably be a one & done and the wonder is how it got a S1. SyFy management seems clueless as to what constitutes good programming even with their business model.

Over & out.

Wow, I think this was about the worst sci-fi show I've seen yet. I can't stomach another episode unfortunately.

I scanned through the 1st episode and even the few bits I stopped on were so cringe worthy I instantly deleted the episode.

That being said, with it's painfully obvious low budget... it will probably run for six seasons!

Only 2 eps & already ominous signs...

http://www.cancelledscifi.com/2020/0...rops-and-more/

"On Friday on Syfy, new series Vagrant Queen dropped to a 0.06 rating with 310K total viewers for its second episode. Those are some of the lowest numbers I have seen for a Syfy show, and I am moving this one to Bubble status. That network does not have an ownership stake in the show, so it only makes money on the ads that run during the live broadcast. And at these levels, sponsors will not be interested in paying much for commercial spots. If this one does not rebound quickly, I will be moving it to Cancellation Likely status"

no surprise

The fact that they did the miniseries after to end the story line is something for which they should be commended.

What can I say? This show is growing on me. The latest episode No Clue, was pretty good. Love the updated lead pipe and candlestick holder. And sometimes a rope is just a rope.
