Lucas Glover slams PGA Tour for playing through coronavirus

As for whether the Masters will even take place, Alan Shipnuck of Golf.com reported Thursday a text message he received from an Augusta National member that stated: “I believe the tournament will be played. Discussions are ongoing. Limiting patrons seems likely. Might be none at all. Closing practice rounds, canceling the Par-3 … everything is on the table. Expect an announcement next week.”...

It can be done. No press. No announcers. No patrons. One TV director in a well-stocked trailer of pimento cheese sandwiches and Arnold Palmers, conducting robot cameras.

Oh the life of a golfer is not all gloom
Though they should charge just for listening in the locker room
But I'm in my glory when wrapped in a towel I say
That it went straight down the middle
Where it wound up is a riddle
But it went straight down the middle far away

not looking good for The Masters...with every other pro sports league temporarily shutting down, it wouldn't be a good look for the PGA if they went ahead with it...I've said it for years now- the Masters is Tiger's best shot at a major...if it gets cancelled he should take the rest of the year off to rest

What am I going to do for 3 weeks?

Can't torment TT now.

I got others but not as much fun.

Boredom sucks.

Can't watch the "flash" hit errant tee shots now what will I do?

The "Flash" game looks like it always did Thursday chips like Houdini and makes every putt he stands over and plays Army golf (left right).

But what Ben Hogan would say he's cursed by the "snake". A hook he doesn't know where its going.

He will need to change his game soon.

Time to be prepared. 100% percent or bust.

The Masters say they're postponing, but PGAT Commish has stated that the schedule is filled with no possibility for tournaments to be rescheduled in 2020.

"Commissioner explains PLAYERS decision, discusses future"

Quote:
WILL THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP BE RESCHEDULED? Said Monahan: “It’s not a possibility. As you look into the rest of the season, tournaments in every market are well on their way towards playing their events, to fundraising. You’ve got charities just like we have here that are counting on those events. … We’re going to continue to go forward with the schedule that we’ve outlined and hopefully we can get back and play as soon as possible.”

Can't The Masters move mountains? Maybe if some small event organizers are offered free play at Augusta National for their calendar spot? ANGC is normally closed late May until October.

I've always thought that the Masters would be better as the last major of the year instead of the first...

They don't do Bermuda grass, thus the closure.

The problem with rescheduling during the summer is, as you mentioned, the bent grass greens. It would have to be in the spring or fall. But the Tour has basically ceded it's fall schedule to football anyway. Nobody pays much attention to any events scheduled in September or October (and forget November/December entirely), unless it's the Ryder Cup. I sure don't. The tournament golf season effectively ends for me in August. So they could conceivably move the Masters into a later date in the fall, maybe bump one of the "silly season" events no one cares about.

McIlroy at The Players smartly commented that tournaments are dependent on volunteers, and many of them are elderly. That probably was more of a PGAT deciding factor than the closure of Disney World.

Sidenote: Haven't checked stock buys for pulp & paper, sanitary goods, fast-food, etc. Out in the wild, grocery store hoarders are going nutso.

"All the big questions that come with postponing the Masters because of coronavirus"

Quote:
Augusta's primary turf is Bermuda, but the entire course is overseeded with perennial ryegrass in the fall before the club reopens, giving it a pristine look that is maintained through the Masters. Would that hold into May, for example, if the club chose to pick a month to six weeks after the original Masters date? And how would it look if, say, the tournament were played in September or October, with less time for the rye to take hold? It is possible this is part of the decision-making process going forward. The greens are bentgrass, which is less tolerant of heat but regulated by a pipe system that Augusta has underneath its greens.

Pretty sure Greg Norman won't miss the Masters postponing the tournament.

I can go a year without tournaments don't like it but can live without it.

If you've ever suffered with back issues Tiger is smiling today rest is everything for a bad back.

Tiger was looking in great shape from a physical standpoint heading into the new golf season...awhile back it looked like he was starting to let himself go and get fat but it looks like he got back on that Tom Brady/Alex Guerrero 'cocktail' diet...if most of the golf season is cancelled then older guys like Lebron James and Tiger are going to suffer the most...father time is undefeated and they are not getting any younger...losing a whole year at the tail end of your career might be the end of the road

My predictions are near flawless and no downside in the future.

No sports for years?

Wonder what's going to happen daytime game shows with no audience?

Going to have to follow the soaps more closely.

Am I bummed about no Masters? It's been 60 years and counting and never missed one.

Like the great Walter Sobchak said has the whole world gone crazy.

US Open won’t be played in June, but will stay at Winged Foot

Winged Foot has been informed the tournament will not take place in June as scheduled...the plan is for the tournament to remain at Winged Foot, but to be played later in the summer...the 120th U.S. Open, which was scheduled to be played June 18-21 at the Mamaroneck club, joins the Masters and PGA Championship in being delayed

The Masters, which was to be played April 9-12, has been postponed until later in the year (possibly October)...the PGA, which was set for May 14-17 at Harding Park in San Francisco, also has been postponed with plans for a new date later in the summer...

I expect the announcement to delay the British Open and Wimbledon will probably come in the next month or so, as well. Britain is not quite as far behind the 8-ball as we are, but they're not far off. At least they have a National Health Service and can mobilize resources more quickly & efficiently than us.

The R&A is understood to be edging closer to a postponement of the Open Championship, amid a growing realisation golf’s oldest major cannot be held in July at Royal St George’s. British Open 2020 to be canceled due to coronavirus pandemic

not postponed like the other majors but outright cancelled...the last time the Open wasn’t played was in Royal St. George’s Golf Club 1945 because of World War II

part of the reason the championship is being canceled rather than postponed like the Masters and PGA Championship has to do with insurance, a source says...similar to Wimbledon, the R&A has a policy that shields against a global pandemic, and a source indicated the Open would have to cancel by a certain date in order to collect on its insurance premium...
