Is there a 4K live feed for SpaceX rocket launch today? Nope

Is there a 4K Live feed for this?

I salute our Immersion professionals: Curt Hoyt to which I am very thankful for positioning my JBL loudspeakers correctly to achieve a very tight bubble and the greatly missed Peter CINERAMAX whose fearless R&D in PRO-RIBBON cinemas, curation of most immersive Kaleidescape scripts and forging ahead to 55 loudspeaker Crystal Led Cinemas will pave the road ahead. And Adam Pelz for bringing the system to jawdropping life!

If you have a C-band satellite dish and the other requisite equipment, you can view it on NASATV UHD.

You know for a fact they are going to show the launch on the UHD stream? The last time I looked at that stream, it was completely different programming. I couldn't check today as I needed the dish pointing at the CBS Pitchblue feed for the Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament. Now that the launch has been scrubbed. I'll look on Saturday.

The best I could choose on YouTube was 720p. Disappointing.

The main NASA streams are 720p. That is because the bitrate of the transponder is too damn low. They refuse to upgrade the technology to use a much higher bitrate. To do so would force institutions to upgrade their IRDs. But, they are so damn cheap, it is a lousy excuse.

In this day and age there is no excuse for not having a 4K stream.
This is kind of historic.

I swung the 12ft dish over to NASA and the 4K stream is NOT covering the launch. It is running a program about one of the moon landings.

The two main streams are 720p

I'll recheck the stream in a little bit. The version of TSReader that I am using can't decode H265 video, so I have to record the stream and check it with other software. I will be capturing the complete mux. Stream 101 has commentary and 103 is clean video, which broadcasting media can use.

UHD is still no go for the launch. There was a program dealing with ISS.

Ku on my 12ft has been shaky. I preferred sticking with the NASA feed. It would have been great if they had put the launch up on the UHD stream. Getting 3 sreams at once was nice.

That launch was very enjoyable to watch and impressive. Haven't seen coverage of a launch in a long, long time. On the feed I was watching the return rocket was going to land on the platform then the feed cut out, when it came back it was on the platform, disappointed I didn't get to see the actual touch down.

We sat glued to 4 hours of docking and hatch opening, Sunday morning. Cast the NASA app to my TV. That seemed to be the best quality until it started "buffering" a couple of times per minute. Reverted to NASA's live YouTube channel, which was a lot more consistent, but still 30-40 seconds behind the NASA channel on DirecTV (which isn't in HD).

Best moment came when Bob or Doug said something like, "Houston, we're postponing the waste system flushing for a little longer as it still might be needed." I guess that's astronaut-speak for "If we don't get this door open soon, I'm gonna ***** my pants!"

I'll have to look at the NASA TV capture that I did to see if I caught it. I know they showed it after they had returned, but I think I looked away at the time.

Ah yes, the advantage of a BUD pointed at NASA TV.

They didn't pass through the NASA TV 720p? There is no NASA TV SD anymore.

Doesn't mean that they couldn't have shown the launch in 4K, live.

I don't think they are capable of live 4K right now.

I have to idea, one way of the other. I wouldn't but it past them to not be able to do 4K live. Hell, they are still using DVB-S at ~38.5 Mbps instead of DVB-S2, using 60-72 Mbps.
