I thought that show was on The History Channel. You mean now it's on The Weather Channel? Where will it show up next, The Food Channel?

Same here. Also will miss "Prospectors" with its remarkably crisp HD mountain views as folk dig for various gems. -- John

The first step would be to lower my bill by whatever they were paying Weather Channel. Obviously not happening. A la carte channels would also be a good idea and also will never happen. Worst case, put it on a higher tier and let me decide if I want it.

If they aren't interested in being a full-service TV provider, just let us know and I'll find a better solution.

I finally figured out a pattern to when my FiOS DVR reboots. If I'm recording two shows at a time and watching something previously recorded, then hitting the delete button to delete a show already on the DVR usually causes a hard reboot! It's amazing that the software is still so unstable after all these years!

Over them dropping of the Weather Channel?

You can get sports with any satellite or cable provider, so don't let that stop you.

It's amazing people still use the MSO's crappy hardware.

How could it be worse? TWC was bottom of the barrel in the first place.

I got rid of FiOS last summer, so I can't see it.

Does it show weather 24/7? If so, that would put it ahead of Weather Channel in my book.

Is there still a clearQAM signal of some kind on 49? Or is that just a widget front end now? (Which would be inferior because you would need a Verizon box to see it.)

I have FIOS and it's no big loss for me. I can't remember the last time I watched TWC. It's been years since I could get a local forecast from it for whatever reason. I haven't checked out the Accuweather channel yet.

Sure it shows weather. Just not your weather. I had to wait around ten minutes to see the weather for my area. That didn't used to be the case when they had the local weather channel from TWC. Plus I liked some of the shows TWC has.

Accuweather has the feel of some cheap college station or some low rated station in the middle of nowhere.

You are King of the Tivo and haven't watched a commercial in at least five years, right? Yet you'll sit around to wait for a forecast instead of just pulling out a phone, tablet or computer? Why? You are a complex fellow.

Weather channels on TV are pretty much anachronistic, whether it be TWC, Accuweather, Weathernation - whatever. Between local channels, national news networks and the internet, there is no dearth of weather coverage. I applaud Verizon for not paying for such a useless channel. In fact, TWC should pay Verizon to carry it.

Interesting. Or you could just use the Yahoo! Weather app on your phone...

That is a pretty good point. I am a serious TiVo user, and I get weather through my phone almost exclusively, or during the winter sometimes a local news channel that I TiVo every night so it's always there and less than 24 hours old.

They might not be a bad idea if

a) TWC was to foot the bill to upgrade the system for HD locals
b) upgrade the graphics on Weatherscan
c) Allow Fios to keep Accuweather TOO

It wouldn't be a bad idea if TWC actually showed weather and/or content that anyone actually wanted to watch.

No. I was checking out the Accuweather station since it was new. I would have expected it to work the same way as TWC channel did. With TWC there was no need to wait around for anything. The local weather was there when you turned to the channel. That is not the case now.

Plus when I am home I typically don;t touch my cellphone. It links up with BT to my cordless phone so I can receive calls and some text info, but once I get home I place my phone on the wireless charger, and I typically don't touch it until I leave the house. I do use tablets at home but not regularly while watching TV.

I use weatherBug on my Cellphone, tablets and PCs. I've tried the Accuweather app but that seems to be very unreliable. It is wrong a lot of the time compared to the Weatherbug app. I've never tried the Yahoo app. I'm not sure if I use anything from Yahoo.

OMG, such hoopla over TWC. Would it kill you to take the phone out of it's cradle for the 15 seconds it takes you to look at the weather forecast and then put it back?

My guess is that you'd be the same person to complain if your bill went up another $3 a month to pay to keep TWC.

After this winter I'm not sure even Accuweather can predict the weather anyway.

Anyway, I'd prefer that they use the bandwidth to improve picture quality. It's really a shame that my streaming video looks better then my FIOS cable channels now.

Exactly, people on the directv forum that switch to Fios are saying directv HD picture is actually better now. FIOS used to be the best hands down.... FIOS needs to roll out MPEG 4 more aggressively to get that bandwidth back.

If they took the $3 or so that I'm paying for the local sports channels that I never watch that would be fine. At least then I might get some value out of that money because right now I get nothing from it. But I have no way to opt out of paying for the local sports channels. There is an extra line item cost for them.

The Weather Channel hasn't had that for a decade or more. They have had crappy reality shows on for years. When is the last time you actually watched TWC?

I wouldn't have used Yahoo! either, but The Verge did a comparison of weather apps, and Yahoo! was the best free one, so I gave it a try, and sure enough it does everything the Weather Channel app does, without all the bloat and extra crap in the UI.
