If you are looking for best PQ, you should try IPTV. YoutubeTV, DirecTV Now, Philo, Fubo & Vue all have better PQ. Sling is supposedly not as good but I've not used that. You can try before you touch your Fios contract. If you can deal with that, then cut the TV portion and use those savings on the internet services.

OTT providers are going to have the best PQ as its internet based .

The next best PQ equal to or above fios is DirecTV in my opinion, as far traditional non OTT providers.

DirecTV also has 4k programming.

I would choose DirecTV above any "cable " provider but also depends on what your looking for programming wise I love sports and live sports in 4k so I love DirecTV

Just my 2 cents on PQ.

I have not seen fios QAM in a while but when I beta tested fios IPTV 2 years ago it had amazing PQ

So is this UHD content on FiOS sent over IP or QAM?
EDIT: I see it is over QAM since I have it on my Bolt. It looks like the HD used to look like on FiOS. Not very good UHD but it would pass for great HD. Probably because it was live. But at least it was in HDR. So I would equate it to a great looking show in 1080P and HDR. Even though it was in 3840x2160P. Kind of like how UHD content from the streaming services look. They look about on par with a 2K BD. But look better because of HDR.

I see it's at around a 23Mb/s average bitrate. I see FiOS was using HEVC.

I could view it on my Sony UHD TV in HDR since it can handle HLG. But my TCL UHD TV only handles HDR10 and Dolby Vision, so it was only in SDR on that TV.

I got the bitrate info from KMTTG. WHich I also used to transfer it to a PC from my Bolt. And I got the CODEC info from the VLC media player..

I recorded the race on my FIOS 4k stb ch 1499 and watching it this morning I do not see the HDR symbol on the display

But the fact that FIOS is starting to roll out 4k material is very encouraging to me

The TV also needs to be able to handle HLG HDR. Which I know the US TCL UHD TVs do not.
And the other equipment as well. For instance my 2016 Onkyo receiver can handle HDR10 and Dolby Vision. But it was never updated to Handle HLG HDR. So any UHD HLG HDR content sent through it comes out in UHD SDR.

The dark scenes in last nights episode of Game Of Thrones was very bad with the overly compressed signal we are getting on HBO channel 899 for FiOS. Blacks and dark grays were crushed and extra blocky and stuttering.

The current stuff is only in SDR. It it were in HDR like the NASCAR UHD broadcast was, I would change my custom TV package to look at it. But Ive been watching UHD content since 2015. So I can't get excited about UHD content in only SDR.

It IS the HDR that really makes the picture pop... even with just HD stuff. Been watching Season 4 of Lucifer on Netflix. The show is being shown in HD HDR...

Netflix showed the bitrate being played from Season 4 was around 15Mb/s when I watched it. Which is a UHD encode.

The Weather Channel returns to FiOS on Monday.

"Beginning June 24, The Weather Channel will be available to Verizon Fios TV customers1 on channel 611, giving customers even more options to keep them up-to-date on the latest severe weather in their communities.
“We are happy to bring Fios TV customers another trusted resource for weather information with the addition of The Weather Channel to our Fios lineup,” said Erin McPherson, Verizon’s Head of Content Strategy, Acquisitions and Programming. “Our customers are increasingly impacted by severe weather, and The Weather Channel will be a welcomed addition for our viewers,” she added."
