If she missed the question he would have won with his bet. He had no way to win if she got it right. His bet protected him from losing if the guy in third bet it all and got it right while he and Emma got it wrong. Based on the people on the show this year I think they stacked the deck against him for that game knowing the stakes. Only one wrong question in the entire show by all 3 of them.

She looked very annoyed to be continually compared to James. I hope that puts a chip on her shoulder that leads to a long run.

Well, James kept getting compared to Ken Jennings, so....probably par for the course.

She does play very much like James, though, so if it were me, I'd take it as a compliment. He kind of rocked.

My hope is also that she does well, then other people will be compared to her.

Yesterday I screwed up and didn't get Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune captured, so I had to capture the local OTA airing.

Today when I went to watch the capture of the two shows, what was supposed to be Jeopardy! was nothing but black. Looks like the feed may have been moved as a result of the leak. The show had not missed this particular feed location in ages. I'll have to start looking for the new location. That sucks.

Oops! I fixed it.

I found the new feed location, but missed the first half. I was catching up on The Twilight Zone and when the episode finished, I went looking and there it was. That said, where I saw it feeding might not be the location it feeds tomorrow. Even though the PitchBlue feeds are linear, they are computer controlled in that the receiving station's PitchBlue server is told when it will feed and therefore when to capture it. All of the information about the program is also fed as data. It is a neat system.

The Pathfire system of feeding programming to a server is different and might have resulted in the episode not being leaked. It is not a linear system. They feed the programming as data, actually tarballs. If you do not manage to catch it when it starts, you'll never get it. But, that technology is proprietary, so CBS had to come up with a different scheme, or pay the licensing for Pathfire. PitchBlue is the one they licensed.

Spoiler about tonight's episode:

Well, it looks like the change in feed time was a result of a late file. It is back to its normal slot today. Jeopardy! never has a late file, considering how far in advance the show is produced. Weird.

Not being aware it was even possible to watch a game show a day early, I clicked the spoiler thinking it was a comment about the previous day's match. I guess I need to pay close attention to post time stamps now.

I saw but didn't read the spoiler. I assumed nothing because mrvideo will post spoilers that have nothing to do with the outcome.

Isn't the reason this thread was revived was because of the dust-up earlier in the week in HOTP about James losing before it aired?

Quote:
If there were a Jeopardy thread, or any other show thread, that hasn’t aired on the west coast I specifically stay out of that thread until I have seen the show. Showing results in this thread before everyone has a chance to see the original showing in their time zone is a definite spoiler.
Quote:
This is the correct answer.
Unless a show specific thread has a no spoiler policy, once the show is released to the East Coast, no spoiler tags are necessary in the show specific threads.
Heed the advice in those quotes or start a dialogue about what to do? "I specifically stay out of that thread until I have seen the show" would be the simple thing to do.

The problem is he is posting spoilers before the show airs anywhere because he gets to see the show when he downloads it for his station. There is really no need for that. It's one thing to stay out of a thread from the time a show airs until you watch it, it's another to have to avoid it before it airs, which isn't easy for a show that airs 5 days a week.

As far as James went, spoiler tags were almost irrelevant. National media (including espn.com !) Were reporting results before the episodes were aired.

How could you not know? That has been part of the discussion about this show for a long time. It was also the reason why James losing was in the press early.

I only recently jumped into this thread for the first time and skimmed over any comments not directly concerning the show's content (James and his success and recent loss). That tech stuff in your post with the spoiler didn't make any sense to me so I didn't read it closely. As Aliens said, I thought the spoiler was something that didn't have to do with the outcome or the outcome of a show already aired.

It was part of the discussion about the show over in HOTP. Pretty much every syndicated show gets at a least a one day advanced feed. The exceptions are the daily news magazines which have same day feeds. For the next couple of hours (starting at 1600 ET), there is a flurry of feeds for the news magazines. Most of them are even fed twice.

As a bit of history, before Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune started feeding via Pitchblue, they were fed two days in advance.

We've been getting some good games and revolving champions since James was dethroned. It will be interested how future players go about the game, seeing that none of the currently people playing have seen James play it's been back to the mostly low to high traditional playing.

Does it truly count as spoilers when equipment that anyone can purchase is used and the signals are not scrambled?

A C-band satellite dish is just a different type of an antenna.

Like, just because you choose to watch your television via an inferior method of reception like an "over-the-air" antenna doesn't mean we're doing anything wrong by choosing to watch our television via a satellite antenna.

If you would like to watch Jeopardy a day early you are welcome to install a C-band satellite antenna at your address just like we did. They're readily available and more affordable than they have ever been.

Yes. The definition of "spoiler" is arrived at by consensus. The consensus for TV shows is that broadcast shows are protected until after they are broadcast. Other shows are protected until they are released to the public by their distributors on the announced release date. The protocol for entire seasons released at once is to at least use spoiler warnings when writing or discussing major plot points.

It doesn't matter by what means one might gain early access, whether it's via satellite feed or hacking a production server or viewing a screener or being in the audience. Early access does not proffer spoiler rights, ever.
