So now with the successful 4K coverage of the Masters over, we have channel 106, [email protected] capable, sitting idle.

Does anyone know the plans D* might have for this channel? If it's only special events, it would be nice to have a listing of what we can expect throughout the year.

My concern is that D* feels there's a lack of content. Already channel 104 is repeating programming.

Something like "to be announced". There's absolutely nothing showing as far forward as I went.

Since DirecTV already has the MLB-EI major league baseball TV package they could use the channel for broadcasting the 81 home games of the Toronto Blue Jays in 4k. Seems like it would be a good fit given DirecTV already carries the SD/HD versions of the Sportsnet channel.

I was thinking the same thing...also hoping @Ken Ross would confirm that when searching the EPG...I guess I'll continue to hope.

CC, unfortunately nothing that I saw. Not just no MLB, nada, zippo, nothing. Of course that doesn't preclude some announcement in the near future.

just say you have 4k TV(s) - no special package need, you could watch 4k VOD, hence all equipment must complaint the HW hr54+c61k/RVU+DLNB[Reverse BAND]

IT's not "reverse LNB", BTW.

no big deal !
who knows when 4K channels will come from Reverse Band?! perhaps at end of the year ? or in 2018 ?

anyway, your config/account will have a flag: "replace DLNB when RB will carry 4K channels" and dtv will send a tech with RB DLNB at that time when it really need or before

Please comment on the quality of non-4K resolutions on your 4K TV? I have been told some 4K's do a better job than others.

My Sony 940c does a great job upconverting HD to UHD resolution. Sony has always had a great reputation in that area. I don't watch anything SD, so I can't comment on that.

DirecTV to Carry MLB Network Games in 4K Ultra HD

AT&T’s DirecTV continues to double down on high-end features and programming, in a bid to lure new customers and counter the ongoing threat of cord-cutting.

The satellite broadcaster announced a deal to deliver up to 25 MLB Network games live in 4K Ultra UHD this season — the first time Major League Baseball games will be available to U.S. viewers in the format, which offers about four times the resolution of 1080p HD.

Ultra HD is beginning to take root, but it’s still relatively small. About 6.3 million UHD sets shipping in North America last year, forecast to double this year to 12 million units, according to research firm IHS.

DirecTV’s 4K baseball coverage will begin Friday, April 15, with the MLB Network Showcase game between the L.A. Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. The game, called by MLB Network’s Bob Costas, Harold Reynolds, Tom Verducci and Sam Ryan, will mark the first-ever live 4K UHD telecast of a Major League Baseball game in the U.S. Other upcoming games (subject to local TV blackout restrictions) are set to include the Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals April 19 and the Yankees at Red Sox on April 29 and 30

Please include a quote from an article or the gist of the story rather than just a link-out.

Thanks.

True. And it's a good rule of thumb to never include the entire article, but a quote with a link or credit to the original source is generally okay. There are exceptions, but they rarely come into play. It's just easier for mobile users. Thanks.

I wonder if MLB Network is finally going to use DD 5.1 audio for these feeds. Currently, the network only uses DD 2.0 audio for their channel, which is incredible to me in this day and age and especially crazy since it's a sports channel.

Any of you go through the Costco/Direct TV program to have Direct TV installed? They only use 3rd party contractors to do the install. You do not know which company will provide the services. I have a new Sony 75x940c and want the best installation experience possible. Have a 3 story house and want the dish installed on the roof with no damage to the structure.

Am considering cancelling the Costco route (losing out on $300 gift card) and going with Direct TV corporate ($250 card) or local satellite installer ($100 gift card).

Welcome any of your experiences on your Direct TV installation.

Thanks in advance.

directv techs will not get off a ladder.
i dont even think they will go as high as you need, best to call them
you may have to go third party/contractor for what you want.
but even then directv may not be able to service the dish if its ever needed

Well played MLB. Looks like you gonna get me to watch about 24 more games of your sport than I planned on watching this season.

Too bad the Braves absolutely suck this year.

Hi Mdram,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Fortunately, my roof can be easily accessed from my top deck with a 6' ladder.

In the alternative, can place the dish under the eve and have it fixed to a stud. Want to avoid having the installer go through the roof and face potential leakage, even if they try to waterproof around the installation area.

My question is which techs are the most qualified? Direct TV employees or 3rd party technicians who are certified by Direct TV?

Have had good experience with AT&T Uverse technicians as many who have come to my house have had extensive field experience. The last guy who came had 30 years of experience and brought a wealth of skill and insights to solve more complex AV issues.

what is the point of MLB 4K when local viewers will be locked out of it?

And if they have this why have all the jays home games in 4k on MLBEI as well?

When I asked about getting a new LNB later, they just said I had to call back. I hope this is the case as I'm hoping to avoid additional fees. To me the whole HR-44 thing ended up being a waste of time, and I already had to pay $20 to get moved to an HR-54 just because they didn't have their ducks in a row on supporting linear 4K.

DirecTV to Carry MLB Network Games in 4K Ultra HD
Great news, I was about to hold off because of the whole LNB uncertainty, and whether I saw the Masters in 4K was not going to be a huge deal. But I was afraid (in a good way) they might pull this, and here it is less than a week later and I would have missed programming I was interested in if I hadn't gone ahead and jumped on doing the HR-54 swap.

That's actually a good question. There go those 2 Yankee-Red Sox games.
