Has DirecTV resolved the C61k issue with resolution?

I've got the same 480 issue referenced above on my c61k. The HR54 is fine.

The C61k guide displays (1) only in 480; and (2) always with letter boxes above and below (so the guide actually does not even take up the whole screen).

I've tried both unplugging and a red button restart, both to no avail. I called DirecTV, and they told me it is a known issue, that my problem would be "elevated," and that they would give me updates. That was at least a week ago, and it is neither fixed nor have I received any updates from them.

It is a weird bug, because it will record 4k content. I recorded (and played back) Amen Corner Augusta coverage in 4k, but the live and recorded HD content (1080) and channels still will not display or play in HD.

I've gone into the menu and played with the video settings, and played around with native on and off, letter box color, display options (480, 730, 1080, 4k, etc.) and nothing. I can't select 16x9 or 4x3, because that option seems locked.

I'm not sure I understand how to do the "banner menu" option that I saw mentioned here. I can of course pull up 'menu, audio/video, resolution, etc. but I did not do it while on 1080i show. Do I deselect everything except for 1080?

Thanks, Tom
Any suggestions or news?

TAllen01,
I had the same issue with my C61k. It was stuck on 480p. I had Directv come out for another reason but the installer quickly fixed this resolution problem too. He grabbed the remote for the C61k and hit the Info key. The "banner" comes up on the screen with the Info tab highlighted. You just need to use the remote's right arrow to move over to the Audio/Video tab. The drop down menu will allow you to change the resolution. That fixed my problem.

Wow. That resolved my issue completely in 10 seconds. Guide is once again showing correctly, and HD TV shows are displaying correctly.

I have spent close to an hour on the phone with two DirecTV techs, and they were unable to solve the problem. You solved it for me. Thank you!!!!

DirecTV needs to add this to a C61k FAQ section, if you ask me.

That's great Tom. I'm glad that worked for you. I had the same experience with the Directv phone techs. I spent a long time talking to them, and they had no idea what the issue was.

Just placed an order for new service through the Costco promo. A chat agent told me earlier today that ordering the Ultimate or Premier package you will automatically get the HR54 and reverse band LNB. We'll see. My confirmation email shows all the programming at regular prices, so the order might be a bust anyway.

The Brilliance and Growing Pains of AT&T’s DirecTV Debut of the Masters in 4K

"To be honest, at first we weren’t super impressed. While I could never confirm what kind of cameras were being used, what the signal path was, or what compression was being used, the image didn’t really appear much different than the regular HD broadcast. This is probably because we were really used to watching a lot of “true” UHD Blu-ray-quality 4K images on the projector from a Kaleidescape Strato; those images set a pretty high bar. Later in the day, however, when I could switch between the 4K channel and the HD channel and see the same images, it was clear that the 4K channel added significantly more fine detail. This was especially noticeable in distant objects and the fine detail around edges"

DirectTV employee helps save man from house fire
By Marcy Jones KSAZ - Apr. 13, 2016

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Joseph Spencer says he just happened to be in the right place at the right time when he was flagged down by neighbors about a house fire. Now Joseph is credited with saving a disabled veteran's life.

"I broke the window out there and yelled inside and saw a little bit of fire, bit of smoldering stuff, it was really smokey in there, I yelled out again, and I heard someone yelling I'm dying, I'm dying," said Joseph Spencer.

Spencer was getting off work from his job at DirectTV when he was flagged down. He and the neighbor ran around the home to get closer to someone crying out that they were dying. That's when he made the decision to go in.

"I got on my hands and knees, and I crawled and located him inside there, grabbed him and said we have to go, he said I have no legs. I didn't say anything I just grabbed him and crawled over to the window, put him up into the window, the neighbor got him out, and I collapsed on the floor," said Spencer.

The victim is a double amputee Army veteran who most likely wouldn't have made it out alive if it wasn't for the neighbor and Spencer.

You would be blacked out, you'll have to watch on SportsNet LA, if you even have the channel, which you probably don't if DirecTV is your only provider. Being in the SF market, even if I had the 4K setup needed to view the broadcast, I would be blacked out as well being in-market of one of the teams playing.

Apparently so. Too bad as the regular 1080i broadcast from my local station looks great, so I would think the 4K would have looked pretty spectacular.

I thought that being it's a 4k run that they would not enforce blackout. As I'm sure Directv is still trying to fine tune their systems but yes it is an epic fail. I don't like baseball at all and I only would watch Dodgers if I had to watch baseball. That being said I put my DVR to record and so excited to watch the game in glorious 4k and I find that not only is not showing now my guide is saying to be announced. I feel like I was robbed lol.

Channel 106 has now completely disappeared from the guide, at least on my HR54. I guess they want to erase all evidence.......
