How do I control home media equipment remotely?

Hello,

I am setting up a home media system in my new home. I will have a PC, AVR, NAS and Xbox in a server rack about 15m away from my lounge.

How can I best control this equipment from my lounge?

I am running Cat6a, HDMI and USB 3.0 to the lounge. Should I run some sort of IR wire?

Many thanks for your advice!

Andrew

IR, RS232 or if you use Harmony maybe even some RF
Xbox not local could cause lag/delay with remotes, just an FYI. I am no expert in that area (or most areas!)
You can run IR over ethernet wire if needed.

I use category cable to extend IR.

Harmony remote -> RF -> Harmony Hub

Harmony Hub -> wifi -> AVR

Harmony Hub also hardwired to TV, via category cable. 2.5 mm IR (mono) output of Hub, adapter to 3.5 mm, 3.5 mm input on category cable breakout board, cat cable to TV, 2 of those conductors connected to a pigtailed 3.5 mm mono male connector, plugged into Sony TV IR input.

3.5 mm breakout board, no guesswork
