The way you have it connected and using currently, it is not possible to volume by control by CEC, but we will more likely have an update that allow everything to work without having to connect AVR output neither at TV out, neither back to an input.
This update is bind to another device we are working on, if we succeed then it will ported to Diva/Maestro/Vertex2.

If you need a solution for that in the meantime you can use sharc from thenaudio.com

Is the Vertex 2 capable of splitting 4K HDR video plus full fat audio from BD/UHD player into 4K HDR Video and full fat Audio?

Also is it capable of simultaneously outputting full.fat 4K HDR video plus audio via.2 HDMI outputs?

Both questions are the same unless i missed something, anyway, answer is yes Vertex2 is a 18Gbps switcher/splitter/matrix so it will work just fine for that.

Thanks. So the device can simultaneously output full fat video plus audio vis 2 HDMI outputs. Please clarify.

Apologies just wanted to be doubly sure before I order.

1 input to 2 outputs is called SPLITTER
Our devices are SPLITTER/SWITCHER/SCALER/MATRIX and way more, so OF COURSE it can do that !

So I've now been trying to figure out what 10m (or 30') HDMI cable to buy and I must say that I'm extremely confused. The test report on avsforum says to go with the Ruipro or Monoprice, but this thread on the Vertex2 implies that neither of them will work properly with a true 18Gbps signal. I see that @HDfury recommends KabelDirekt, but the 1-star reviews on Amazon on the 30' version say that it fails at 4k HDR @60Hz. I'm not even sure where to buy the Moshou cable that is mentioned a couple of times (are there any US shippers, it seems to only ship from China on AliExpress?).

So I guess my question is this: is there any 10m/30' hdmi cable readily available that has been proven to be reliable with the Vertex2's 18Gbps requirement? Thanks in advance for any help!

I have been using this one (10M) for months now with no problems for any files including 4K60 and DV. OPPO203>Vertex2>LG4KPJ

Thanks for the recommendation. Though those amazon reviews are a little rough. I'm trying to take all of @HDfury 's recommendations, but it seems like many are mutually exclusive regarding no more than 3% 1-Star amazon reviews, high review volume etc.

@HDfury doesn't recommend KabelDirekt for 10m, just for their 6-10 foot copper cables. For fiber, I'm pretty sure Celerity is what they recommend.

We have our own fiber now, just finished testing so feel free to send email if you want to try it. (it works perfectly or you get your money back)

Does that cable guarantee also apply if bought from your E.U. store because if bought from the main store then will most lightly get hit with custom charges to the UK.

We do not have any EU store, the only official source is HDfury.com, everything else is just resellers playing with domain names.

I have a Vertex2 with firmware .54 connected between an Anthem AVR and an Epson TW9400 projector. Quite a lot of the time, when I turn the system on, the projector shows no signal. Switching inputs on the Anthem doesn’t fix it, and neither does issuing a hotplug. Rebooting the Vertex2 does fix it. Config attached. Any ideas?

Try the FW i sent by PM, if no go, then you need to do SOURCES > VERTEX2 > TX0 to PJ / AUDIO OUT to AVR INPUT.

I'm in a predicament that I believe a lot of people are having when it comes to Shield owners.

For some reason Shield or my Optoma projector (CinemaX P1) does not support 10 bit 24p playback. It reverts to 8 bit RGB. However 50/60hz at 10 bit 4k works fine.

By using the Vertex will I be able to force 10 bit 24p playback without issue? I'm not sure if this is a limitation within Shield or an Optoma issue.

There are mentions in the Optima thread that it won't accept 4:2:2 12-bit. If you have the Shield set to 4:2:2 try changing it to 4:4:4 or 4:2:0.

if i change it to 12 bit 4:2:0 would i be losing any details in picture quality? right now whatever i do in shield even if i try to force it to 12 bit 4:2:0 24p content, it loads but it shows up as 8 bit 4:2:2

if the vertex is unable to force into 10 bit 4:2:0/4:2:2/4:4:4 24p HDR mode I will need to return the Optoma projector. Thats a huge miss if the projector is unable to project 4k at 24p at 10/12 bit...

Thank you - I will try those things. Is there a specific fix for this sort of issue in the test firmware? If I still have the problem, what is the reasoning behind moving the Vertex2? What do you think the problem might be that this will solve?

4:2:0 at 24Hz is not a legal HDMI mode, the only framerates supported by HDMI at 4:2:0 are 50/59/60Hz

Legal modes at 24Hz (and 23/25/30) are 12-bit 4:2:2 and 8/10/12-bit 4:4:4 (and RGB of course).

Absolutely correct! the only TV in our lab that would accept 4K24 420 is a LG one and it took it up to 4K24 420 16b, all others won't accept it since there is no VIC for it.

Yes any fw i'm sending via PM is different from official one, cannot comment much publicly, just try please.
Issue depends on your results with this test FW so please report back.

Lightbulb Arcana - eARC Adapter

Hi Guys,

I'm posting here about our new upcoming device, currently in pre-order : https://www.hdfury.com/product/4k-arcana-18gbps/
It is the World 1st eARC adapter, currently for SONOS Arc and a couple of Bose soundbars but will work with any eARC sound system and those to come.
And given the issues with 1500MHz/48Gbps handling by AVR/repeater, you might see a few of such eARC only sound system coming out over the next months and more over the next years.

This project somehow echoes with Vertex2/Diva/Maestro, if you visit the page, we have a stretch goal set at 800 units.
If we can reach this stage then there is high chances that our dev team succeed in a new approach for CEC commands and ARC handling.
In case of success, this same work could be ported to Diva/Vertex2/Maestro via software update(no need of any hardware revision)

That would mean that CEC commands from SOURCE to sound system at AUDIO OUTPUT would work and CEC commands from TV (TX0 output) to sound system at AUDIO OUTPUT would work, so basically no need to connect sound system output to TV or back to an input to have CEC commands working for the device at audio out.
There was lot of concerns about CEC commands over Vertex2/Diva/Maestro threads and this could be the perfect solution for it.

Feel free to share about this so we can try this new approach asap and may be give new powers to Vertex2/Diva/Maestro too.

@HDfury

I saw this option in the email I got about the Arcana:

Increase or decrease nits value of HDR metadata in real-time during HDR playback

That would be a nice option to integrate into Vertex2/Diva/Maestro to start with.

Stereo is simply Multichannel light.

On my AppleTV, should I be matching frame rate and dynamic range or forcing it to LLDV? If I force to LLDV, I get the 600 Mhz signal coming through, but if I match (on, for example, Avengers: Endgame which is DV), I get 300Mhz.

Similar question, on my Panny 820, should I have 24p enabled? When I don't, I get 4k60 (600Mhz), but when I enable it, I get 4k24 and 300 Mhz (e.g. Casino Royale 4k UHD BR (DV). Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm not sure if I actually gain anything by forcing the higher signal throughput, or if I'm just adding extra unnecessary video processing.

Depends what your source is - if it's for example, a UHD BluRay, that's encoded in 10-bit 4:2:0, so if you go to 8-bit you lose information, notably in colour gradations - you get horrible chroma banding on fine gradation - skies are the favourite to look for it!

This can be alleviated with a VP by dithering, and arguably, if done properly, you probably won't notice any difference, but at that point you're still making stuff up, and personally, I'd rather not do that.

If the source is 8-bit - eg, HD BluRay, then that's encoded at 8-bits, so 8-bit output is ideal.

If your display is only 8-bits, it depends which device dithers the best - the source, or the display - and in the absence of a decent VP, that will generally be the display - so again, output in 10-bits or 12-bits and let the display do the heavy lifting.

Note that if you output in 10-bits, the colour encoding must be 4:4:4 and 12-bits can be either 4:2:2 or 4:4:4.

Hey guys, new Vertex 2 user here. I've been trying for a day and still stuck. Maybe someone can help me with this.

The Vertex 2 is used to achieve LLDV playback in the following setup:

Sources: ATV4K and SHIELD TV PRO (2019) going into the Vertex 2
Sink: LG HU70LS (European version of the HU70LA) hooked up to TX0 out of the Vertex 2. NO RECEIVER in between, nothing.

Technically, everything is working. The Vertex 2 is in Automix mode with Video Flags set to TX0, Audio to Audio Out and the DV flag set to Custom DV String, which is specified in the DV tab. This is all working. ATV4K and Shield TV both recognize a DV sink and send a signal that the Vertex 2 identifies as LLDV 12b 422 BT2020 as specified.

Problem: this signal fails to trigger HDR mode on the LG for both sources.

I can manually get it to trigger for the ATV4K by going to the DV tab and hitting Send DV while a film plays. The signal resyncs and triggers HDR mode. The ATV4K is always in LLDV mode, even in the menus, and I have to play a movie for this trick to work. It remains fine until I play an HDR-only movie. After that DV fails to trigger HDR mode on the LG again and I have to resend DV. The ATV4K has to be set to match content and frame rate, otherwise it doesn't work.

This trick has not been working at all on the Shield TV. The Shield TV is set to autoswitch colorspace to match content. Signal identifies same as on the ATV4K, but here the resync either stops playback or reverts to HDR10 from LLDV. Nothing I've tried triggers HDR mode on the LG while keeping the LLDV signal.

Is there a way to trigger HDR mode with a flag somewhere? I'd love to get it to work on the Shield, and I'd love for it to work without the trick on the ATV4K.

Current idea from Anthony Chan, who's been helping me in the LG thread, is to use the "Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is LLDV" option. I'm not sure that will do the right thing. Won't it mess with the custom DV settings and just send a custom HDR infoframe instead? I'll report back from testing.

Thanks for reading, and any ideas you may have.

You already have that on Vertex2/Diva/Maestro, edit your metadata in real time and click send while having "Use custom HDR fro TX0 and TX1 when input is HDR10"
Arcana just have easier options as demo purpose for DV, the settings are :BT2020/DCI-P3 and MIN/MAX LUM that's all.
For HDR METADATA replacement, nits values settings only
so it is demo version of the full features you guys have on Vertex2/Diva/Maestro already.

for LLDV> HDR10:

1) use automix with custom DV string or EDID5 or EDID10
2) use custom HDR when input is LLDV

Both are mandatory for this to work unless you have a JVC PC with custom gamma curve.

Ah, I see. Thank you for taking the time, I'm loving the device beyond what words can describe. I'm testing this now and the V2 says the outgoing signal is HDR, incoming is LLDV. HDR mode triggers fine. Am I getting LLDV in an HDR package this way? If so, what about the settings below the "Use custom HDR for TX0 and TX1 when input is LLDV" option? Right now I've just ticked the box. Below there are settings for EOTF, WP, Primaries and luminance values. Are those activated with the checkbox? Or is it using what I have set in the custom DV tab?

Yes LLDV coming in and display in HDR mode is the right way. You are not getting LLDV in HDR package, you are just getting LLDV this way, LLDV is an HDR mode, so to render it correctly your display needs to be in its HDR mode, if it was a DV display then it would need to be in its DV mode.
SOURCES use what you have defined in DV datablock, Display use what you define in HDR metadata (only TV, PJ won't react to metadata values, so no need to tweak anything for a PJ)
