eARC

Hi everyone,

I have a Sony Bravia TV XBR-65A9G, a Denon receiver AVR-S750H, and Spectrum cable box. What is the best set-up for the best sound and all around best experience? Should I run a traditional setup of the following:

Set-up 1:
1. HDMI cable from the cable box to CBL/SAT IN on the receiver.
2. An HDMI cable from HDMI OUT 4k (eARC) on the receiver to HDMI eARC IN on the TV

or this:

Set-up 2:
1. HDMI cable from the cable box to HDMI IN on the TV
2. An HDMI cable from the eARC HDMI IN on the TV to the eARC OUT on the receiver.

Will Set-up 2 support 5.1 surround?

Final note...and an annoying one...sometimes I lose sound when I rewind the DVR cable box. Is this an HDMI handshake problem.

Thanks everyone!

Ideally, especially with eARC support all around, you should connect everything to the TV and have an audio downlink over eARC to the receiver.
Both eARC and ARC support 5.1. ARC supports 5.1 over Dolby Digital(AC3) which is lossy. eARC supports 5.1 (and more) in lossless formats.

Regarding the HDMI handshake - might want to play around with HDCP settings on the set-top box if you have them.
