Not satisfied with Bose QC 35 II

Hello everybody!

Some days ago my wife gave me a wireless headset, it is the Bose QuietComfort 35 II.

Let me make a little introduction first: I'm not a sound purist, I can feel the difference between a 128kbps and a 320kbps MP3 track but no more.

I appreciated the good quality of the sound from the headset and the level of noise cancellation, but when I connected them to my PC with Bluetooth in "Hands free" mode everything changed: the quality was low, both for the speakers and the microphone. I noticed in fact that when connecting the headset to Windows in stereo mode (without the microphone) you get an higher sample rate (44KHz) while in "Hands free" (including the microphone) mode it is just 16KHz.

This is a problem for me, since I planned to use the headset a lot when using Skype or while talking with my friends on Discord when playing videogames.

In addition I noticed that in "Hands free" mode I always hear the noises around me, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with the noise cancelling, it seems like the headset captures the sound with the mic and plays it through the speaker (not sure if I'm right, but looking on the web someone refers to this behavior as "sidetone").

I would like to return this headset and change it with another model that possibly has:
  • High quality sound (also for the mic, e.g. 44KHz sampling)
  • Good noise cancelling
  • No sidetone
  • Possibly wireless

I found some interesting alternatives like Logitech G933, but obviously it has not any noise cancelling feature.

Could you please give me any suggestion? If you tell me that the "high quality mic" request makes it hard to find a good model for me, I would also accept the suggestion to buy a separated microphone for the gaming sessions (maybe one to be put on a table, like the streamers usually do).

Thanks a lot for your time! :-)

The bose 35s and Sony 1000mx3's are the best NC sets on the market.... other wise Senn, B&W etc all make sets as well.... though they are not in the same leauge sq/nc wise.

Blasting brown notes for 10 years and counting!

The problem is the use of the mic... No NC headphone has a decent mic system...

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

Hello everybody, thanks a lot for the answers!

By reasoning on the tips from all of you I decided to return the Bose headset. I tried it a little bit more and should say that the NC feature is really good, but since I'm looking for a good quality also for the microphone side I'm gonna go for the Logitech G933: they should have "good" quality both for speakers and microphone, do not have noise cancelling but at least should isolate me a little bit.

I use them, as I said, usually at home or at office, I guess that NC is more indicated for people travelling a lot in noisy environments (train, airplane, etc.).

Thanks a lot for having helped me in taking a choice, I really appreciated the time you spent for replying my request.

Have a nice day!

From the reviews, the Bose 700 seems to have an excellent Mic as well as NC.

I was in the same boat I didn't really like Bose QC 35 II though for different reasons. But I'm really happy with Bose 700, there is noticeable difference in sound quality and bass, better noise cancelling, and call quality. I'd suggest others who are still following this thread to try the Bose 700s.

OP, I hope you are liking the Logitech G933!!!

The QC35II recently got a firmware update that basically killed the ANC.

See the bose community page on their website. It's 72 page long
Strange it happened as the 700 was being release and Bose is not responding so far. I'm ready to send mine back
