Did you make a choice?

I have them - much like you I wanted a versatile set featuring active noise canceling for commuting, plus the occasional home theater use.

Their ANC works well - better than the Plantronics Back Beat Pro 2 I had. It will eliminate almost all the hum of any background sound on a train, car, etc. It does not block out voices though. Voices are reduced somewhat but any crying kids, etc, will still be apparent. The ANC is effective and subtle, generally. It does not pressurize the ear cups or make a background sound, like the Plantronics did.

For home theater, they're fine. They have good bass, but not too much bass like the Plantronics. Check out RTINGS.COM for some graphs on their bass curve and ANC curves.

The Sony app is overly complicated for my preference, but its like to have a lot of configurability.

I'm curious if/when the XM4s come out (next version), if they'll be worthwhile for the upgrade. The 'net speculated they'd be announced by October 2019, but it hasn't happened yet.

AVR: Denon X4400H 7.1.4; 80% gaming, 20% movies, <1% music
Speakers: Klipsch RP-450C; L/R Klipsch RP-250F; Side & Rear: Klipsch R-51M; Height: JBL 2.5" satellites; SVS PC-4000;
Platform: Xbox One X on LG E8 55" OLED
Room from hell: 16x16x18' open loft, thin walls, hard surfaces, lots of street noise
