Hello,

anyone knows this new device. It look like a WD TV with LAN and Composite.
h**p://www.fantec.de/html/de/2/artId/__1416/gid/__110090114090/article.html
The specs are very promising and the Manual is here.. h**p://images.fantec.de/FANTEC_TV-LHD_online.pdf

price in Germany would be near 140 Euro.. The WD TV is at 100 Euros + LAN Adapter you are at 130 Euros.. So this could be an option.

hope to here some comments..
bye

I thought the Egreat M34 was supposed to be the WD killer? Seems WD must be doing something right when you get multiple machines being billed as the WD killer. LOL

I hope so! What else could it be?

And I'm not certain if it's so simple to add ifo-support for the wdtv...

The SD 8623 is a low cost entry level chip in opposite to the 8634 in the WDTV.
So the WDTV should be able to do all the things the fantec can do!

That's correct, but the differences is not big I suppose (from what I saw on the Sigma Designs HP). But Fantec stated that the LHD can play *.ifo and *.flac... So, can the WDTV play this also with a new FW??

In addition to the inferior Sigma chip, this device has considerably less RAM than the WD TV-HD, too.

Quote:

Memory: SDRAM 128M, Flash: 16M

According to this and earlier posts, the WD TV-HD has

192MB SDRAM, 16MB flash

As a comparison, the Popcornhour specs: 256MB SDRAM, 32MB flash

So if (still no definite answer to this by the WD guys) RAM is the limiting factor when it comes to H.264 playback and the number of reference frames supported, this device should be even less forgiving than the WD TV-HD in this respect.

That's really, really interesting! I think, we will see what the player can play, when the LHD is available in stores.

See the user manual page 6 (English).

h**p://images.fantec.de/FANTEC_TV-LHD_online.pdf

In the Audio section it indicates DTS down mixing and pass through.

So, a bit slower Sigma chip and no DTS downmixing ( looks like they are lying in the manual).
