I have read that jRemote gives you a few more options compared to Gizmo. Is one of them being able to change libraries in jRiver? I can't seem to do that with Gizmo.

I am using Asset as a server, jRiver and Gizmo on my tablet. Just got this working a couple days ago and I like it a lot.

Can someone please tell me if the speaker out settings work over LAN/wireless using the Oppo as a renderer? I plan on streaming multichannel flac files from an Asset server on the same PC as jRiver, and send to Oppo 205 over LAN connection. Do the analog out settings like bass management, number of speakers (4.0, 5.1, 7.1, ect.), distance settings, ect. still function? I don't seem to get any of those options in jRiver when you are "not using jRiver audio engine." I really would appreciate any input, thanks in advance.

Yes, they apply. But only when you are listening on the multi-channel Analog output.

Great. Thanks. Now that I am understanding the in's and out's of jRiver and its streaming abilities, I like it even more. Multiple servers setup using Asset show up as libraries in jRiver. Opens up more options using the UPnP/DNLA function which is hard to grasp without actually using it. My Oppo 83se is limited in what formats it can use but my Pioneer Elite will natively play FLAC, but only as a UPnP/DLNA renderer. It won't play FLACs without a server.

Yes, that's what I've got. Loader is BE2800.

(Sorry for not responding to this sooner. The question was why 24bit PCM streams play slowly)

Poison PCM with BDP 83?

I am using minimserver and ffmpeg to transcode flac files to PCM so I can play them via UPNP on my BDP 83. In most cases, this works fine. However, I have a few files that the BDP refuses to play - it tries a few times and the goes to then next song.

All of the impacted files seem to be from the same album, but not all of the files for that album are impacted.

For one of the impacted files...

- I have tried converting the flac to raw and back to flac from the command line with ffmpeg - I got no errors during the conversion, same result on the player
- I have tried converting the flac to mp3 from the commad line with ffmpeg - I got no errors during the conversion, and the mp3 played fine
- I have tried converting the flac to raw, trimming off the first 44100 bytes, and converting back to flac - this played fine

So, apparently there is something in the first 44100 bytes that the player doesn't like so much. Is this a known issue?

I'm going to try to narrow in on the issue by trimming off smaller hunks to see where it fails, but I thought I'd check to see if this was a known issue.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this before.

Can you control what the server produces from FLAC files? If LPCM is not reliable then maybe one of the other codecs that work on the -83:

What are the supported media file audio codecs?

I'm trying to do something lossless - I think (unless I am misunderstanding the info in the link you provided) that LPCM is my only lossless option.

Thanks!

You are correct: LPCM is the only lossless audio codec from media files.

The FAQ adds these combinations as working:

  • .vob STEREO 24bit/96kHz (or 48 kHz)
  • .mkv/.mka STEREO 16bit/ up-to-192 kHz
  • AVCHD (we need a list of supported audio codecs and parameters)

Please pardon my ignorance... does that mean that I can use (for example) an mka container with LPCM audio data?

Yes, I did a lot of testing of that at one time. Probably via USB but I believe it worked over DLNA as well.

An issue is that PCM actually comes in a lot a varieties and only some work. I'll see if I can find my testing notes.

I cannot get my Oppo 203 to see SMB shares. Or perhaps it's windows that's not providing SMB shares. I get exactly 3 icons on the oppo network screen:

But not the SMB icon.

I did this to enable SMB sharing on Windows 10:
Win+R (Run), type "optionalfeatures" and hit enter to bring up "Turn Windows features on or off".
Scroll down to and expand "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" and check "SMB 1.0/CIFS Server" and hit OK.
Launch Powershell as administrator.
Type "Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableSMB1Protocol $true" and hit enter.
I rebooted at this point, not sure if that's necessary but it can't hurt.

I also right clicked on the video folders, brought up the sharing tab and enabled it.

Any ideas?

Streaming Devices: Nvidia Shield, 2x Roku 3's, 1st/2nd gen chromecast, ATV4k, Apple TV 4, xbox 360/one

This could be only problem set to private network

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

turn off homegroups, no you don't have to remove from file explorer but I did.

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2709...-in-windows-7/ ignore windows 7 part in link, it is updated for 10.

Turn on file and printer sharing note the difference here between PRIVATE and PUBLIC network critical if you are directly connected to internet or on a laptop. Option 1 is fine they cover 4 different ways to do it.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html
Make sure you use username and password for managing sharing.

;-) now you have to sell me your 205 for a good price LOL. Damn wish I were pay attention and bought before all the price gouging started.
My BDP-83se still sounds great but is limited in Network ability.

PS

could take 15-20 mins to appears network discovery takes some time.
If this doesn't work does you Antivirus include a network firewall?

^ Microsoft broke the “Master Browser” for SMB in a Windows 10 update earlier this year and still have not fixed it.

This means if the Master Browser for your network is running on an updated Windows 10 platform, SMB will not work except to another Windows platform.

The workaround is to configure things so the Master Browser does not run in a Windows 10 platform.

The first device that powers up will attempt to become the Master Browser. In Windows 10 it is possible to set a Registry entry to keep it from trying to be the Master Browser so you don’t have to care about the order in which things power up.

As for how to get something ELSE to be the Master Browser, some Routers can do this. Or you can fire up a Windows 7 or 8 platform separately, or you can run a Windows 7 or 8 platform as a Virtual Machine on your Windows 10 platform.

1709 was released after this and now we have 1803...

I just turned on my Popcorn Hour A-500 PRO it showed up under network in my file explorer in less than five minutes. Was able to transfer files to and from it.
My MacMini is also visible as well.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>net view
Server Name Remark

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
\\BASEMENT
\\BCI-MACMINI BCI-MACMini
\\DONJON
\\PCH-A500-PRO Samba Share
The command completed successfully.

Lets let him answer some questions and try a few things.

Streaming DSD / MCH FLAC

I've been using a Sony X800 for the past year and change, and have my Oppo 93 in storage for now. However, I've been thinking of letting go of the X800 and putting the 93 back in my rack (along with a cheaper 4k player). I've been using the X800 as a DLNA player, and I really like that it can play (a) multichannel FLAC and (b) DSD files, including multichannel ones. As of the latest firmware, can the Oppo 93 do that? Thanks.

The 93 does not support DSD files, but it does support SACD-R discs.

Was this fixed?
I have no problem getting my Win 8 laptop smb shares to show in the network on my Oppo 103D, however, my networked Win 10 PC is getting the username/password screen on the Oppo and no combination, including the correct password, is working? Not really even sure what to use as a username. Tried the computer name, the account name and a combination of the two with forward slash.

My Win 7 Laptop sees the Win 10 PC smb shares with no problem and the Oppo sees UPnP shares fine from the Win 10 PC. Would like to get this working for my DSF and CUE rips!

If another device boots first it usually is the master browser so if you boot a win 7 or win 8 device on the same network as Win 10 the win 7 (or 8) is the master browser so you can get to the shares on the win 10 device. MS has no interest in fixing the master browser (notified them the moment the new broken master browser was released in the CU edition of win 10.

Someone in the hardware Oppo thread was kind enough to suggest trying Winfsd and in many ways it works as well as SMB. I put a batch file to load it in my startup. You can edit it for your needs - I have the installable on my G: drive and all of my media files are there as well

oppo.bat
"G:\Install\install\Winfsd oppo share\winnfsd.exe" -id 0 0 -log off -pathFile "G:\Install\install\Winfsd oppo share\exports.txt"

exports.txt
G:\Complete
G:\Movies
G:\TVCurrent
G:\TVPast
G:\Music

On the Win 10 machine, check in Advanced sharing options and make sure passwprd-protected file-sharing is set to OFF. I've found that some windows updates will change this setting to ON.

Thanks but I did check that and actually tried every setting with no luck. No luck with getting winnfsd working either.

I have spent too much time on this yesterday and it really isn't that much of a big deal. For multichannel DSF files, I convert to PCM anyways (on the fly), and for stereo DSF files I can just connect a drive directly to the Oppo or serve them up from another PC on the network that isn't running Win 10, I have a few others, and output DSD directly without the added PCM conversion.

The hardest part is I get a bit anal when it comes to this stuff and eventually I will have to at least try to get it all sorted out on the Win 10 PC/server, but for now I need to clear my mind and just enjoy the music Thanks again, and also thanks to @boe .
